Background:Physiotherapy plays an important role in the prevention and management of sports injuries to enable athletes return to play when fully fit. In Ghana first aid personnel and team masseurs generally manage sports injuries. Inadequate knowledge on the role of Physiotherapy may be the reason for not seeking Physiotherapy services. We objectively set out to determine the knowledge and perception about the role of Physiotherapy in managing sports injuries among hockey players and technical staff. Methods:This cross-sectional study involved 65 members of 15 hockey teams in Accra. Participants included female and male hockey players between the ages of 15 and 50, coaches and team managers. They were made to complete a self-administered questionnaire. Data obtained was analyzed using SPSS, version 23. Spearman correlation was used to determine the association between variables at a significant level of 5%.Results:Fifty hockey players and 15 technical staff took part in the study. Majority (94%) and (91%) of participants identified ice and exercises as modalities used by Physiotherapists.About 66.2% of hockey players had high knowledge and perception (p=0.032) about the role of Physiotherapy and reported that 18% of their injuries were treated by a Physiotherapist while majority (89%) were of the view that a Physiotherapist is a competent professional. Sixty-six percent participants perceived that Physiotherapists were involved in research, however, there was no significant association between, knowledge, perception and years of experience of hockey players (p=0.945) and technical staff (p=0.201).Conclusion:Majority of participants had good knowledge and perception on the role of Physiotherapy in training common hockey injuries, although very few of their injuries were managed by Physiotherapists. There is a need to educate players and technical staff on the role of Physiotherapy in the prevention and management of sports injuries, which may encourage players to seek early treatment for injuries rehabilitation. Keywords:Hockey, Physiotherapy, knowledge, role of perception

In Western countries, one of the main barriers to entomophagy is repulsion toward insects. Few studies have investigated the factors that influence attitudes toward entomophagy. Therefore, we conducted a cross-sectional study involving a sample of 248 university students, focusing on disgust and other potential attributes that can influence insect consumption, including health literacy. We used a 17-item self-administered questionnaire. Consistent with the literature, two items were chosen as outcome variables to evaluate the predictors of the propensity to consume insects: “Have you ever eaten insects or insect-based products?” and “How disgusting do you find eating insects?” The data analysis shows that having already eaten insects is inversely associated with the level of disgust (OR: 0.1, p < 0.01); and it is positively associated with higher levels of health literacy (OR: 3.66, p > 0.01). Additionally, having some knowledge and information about entomophagy is inversely associated with a higher level of disgust (OR: 0.44, p = 0.03 and OR: 0.25, p = 0.03, respectively), while being female is positively associated with disgust (OR: 3.26, p < 0.01). Our results suggest the potential role of health literacy, in addition to other factors, in influencing the willingness to taste insects. However, further studies involving larger and non-convenience samples are needed to confirm our hypothesis.

Background: The use of nutritional supplements (NS) by adolescents seems to be an escalating problem in South Africa. Any supplementary product ingested to boost the nutritional content of a normal diet to either fill a need or presumed deficiency, including any sports or energy drink, tablets or injections, are deemed as NS for the purpose of this study. Parents seem to agree that children who play sport are allowed to use NS to assist them to perform better, without knowledge of the health risks associated with these products. Despite information on websites and information sessions arranged by schools, parents seem to disregard advice given to them by experts. Objectives: The objective of this study was to determine the attitudes and level of knowledge of parents of children on the East Rand with regard to NS usage. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study which used a previously validated, self-administered questionnaire for the parents (n = 198). It also included an interview with a focus group consisting of coaches and administrative staff (n = 9) representing each sports code selected for the purpose of this study. The data were analysed using largely descriptive statistics. Results: Nine percent of parents indicated that they considered themselves well informed with regard to NS; 13% indicated that they would support their children in obtaining NS without efficacy being proven and 75% indicated their awareness of the risk of NS being contaminated. Coaches viewed the role of parents as integral regarding a healthy diet but indicated that the use of NS could not be ignored, also admitting to a lack in knowledge regarding NS. Conclusion: Parents and coaches demonstrated limited knowledge regarding NS. Their knowledge was formed from information on labels and the internet. Parents have a positive attitude towards the use of NS by their children despite indicating an awareness of the health risks related to NS usage.

This cross-sectional study was designed to analyse the differences between the subject-specific competenc- es of Slovenian and Italian physical education (PE) teachers. The participants, 669 Slovenian and 484 Italian PE teachers, evaluated their professional competences with a self-administered questionnaire on a four-level Likert scale. A t-test for independent samples indicates differences in the self-evaluations of the majority of sub- ject-specific competences between both groups. However, in almost all items, Slovenian PE teachers evaluate their competences higher. A multivariate analysis of variance, used to identify the role of some socio-demo- graphic factors (state, gender, years of service), shows that the state has the highest impact on the differences between self-efficiency of both groups (p<0.001, Eta2=0.531). The greatest differences (Cohen's d > 0.8) are observed on those competences that relate to some of the narrower aspects of PE didactics. The reasons for the perceived differences can be found in some historical and social events, length of education, the different orientation of PE teacher education programmes, and the different responses of both countries to educational policies. The present study outcomes may aid in updating initial PE teacher training and designing a creative system of continuous professional development.

Context Concussions in ice hockey players are an interesting area of study due to the fast-paced and high-impact nature of the sport. Recently, researchers have focused on player performance after return from concussion to evaluate subclinical deficits that were previously missed. Objective To examine National Hockey League (NHL) player performance from 2013 to 2019 and compare performance before a concussion with performance immediately after recovering to assess the current NHL return-to-play protocol. Design Cross-sectional study. Setting The NHL Injury Viz and sports reporting websites. Patients or Other Participants Players in the NHL who sustained concussions from 2013 to 2019. Main Outcome Measure(s) Goals, assists, points, plus-minus, time on ice (TOI), and hits. Results When goals, assists, points, plus-minus, TOI, and hits were examined, only TOI was different after the players returned from injury, and this TOI difference was not substantively important. Conclusions After concussion, NHL player performance did not change.

Vaccines constitute highly effective tools for controlling and eliminating vaccine-preventable diseases (VPDs) and are assessed to avert between two to three million deaths per year globally. Healthcare personnel (HCP) constitute a priority group for several vaccinations. However, studies indicate significant rates of vaccine hesitancy among them and, therefore, of acceptance of vaccination recommendations. This cross-sectional study was conducted in a university hospital in Southern Italy to assess the knowledge and attitudes of HCP about VPDs before and during the COVID-19 pandemic, estimate their intention to get vaccinated against COVID-19, and search for determinants that may influence their choice. A self-administered questionnaire was used. HCP improved their knowledge about VPDs and were more favorable to vaccinations in September–December 2020 compared to January–December 2019. Overall, 75% of respondents would get a COVID-19 vaccine. Our findings indicate a potential role of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic on Italian HCP’s knowledge and attitudes towards vaccines.

(1) Background: Parents play an important role in children’s oral health by contributing to the development of proper oral hygiene and eating behaviors as well as offering the child access to dental services. The aim of this study was the evaluation of parents’ involvement in their child’s visits to the dental office. (2) Methods: The cross-sectional study was conducted in 2020 in Romania on a sample of 105 parents using an online self-administered questionnaire. (3) Results: Only 9.52% of parents brought their children to the dental office for their first visit in their 1st year of life; 51.53% of children visit the dentist at least once a year but for only 42.86% of children, the reason of their last visit was a regular dental check-up. (4) Conclusions: parents underestimate the role of dental service utilization for their children; the first visit to the dental office for most children is at an older age than optimal, the frequency of dental visits is less than recommended, and they are treatment-oriented.

Introduction: Anaesthesiologists play vital roles in perioperative patients’ care and chronic pain management. However, not many patients are aware of the role of anaesthesiologists. We aimed to measure the level of patients’ knowledge regarding the role of anaesthesiologist and anaesthesia. Materials and Methods: This was a single-centred, questionnaire-based cross sectional study. The self administered questionnaire was divided into three parts that includes, i) sociodemographic characteristics, ii) knowledge regarding role of anaesthesiologist, iii) knowledge of anaesthesia. Respondents were selected among patients attending several specialist clinics at the International Islamic University Malaysia Medical Centre (IIUM MC). Results: Almost 64% of the selected patients had previous experience of anaesthesia. Majority of the patients (78%) knew that anaesthesiologist is a medical qualified doctor, but only 52.5% of them knew the role of anaesthesiologist in operation theatre. Fifty eight percents of patients realized the fact that anaesthesiologist is primarily responsible to ensures the well-being during operation, 45.1% knew the involvement of anaesthesiologist in case of emergency and in the intensive care unit, 46.7% in managing obstetrics pain, 39.3% in long-standing pain, 52.5% on the issue of pre-operative visits and post-operative recovery. Besides that, 72.1% were well-informed regarding fasting before operation, 59.8% realized that smoking may affect the anaesthesia and surgery, 86.1% knew where anaesthesia will be administered, 66.4% and 62.3% of respondents knew regarding the general and regional types of anaesthesia respectively. Seventy three percents of patients realize how general anaesthesia will be administered. Lastly, only 54.9% of patients had some knowledge regarding complications of anaesthesia. There were also not much impacts of previous exposure of anaesthesia on the level of their knowledge. Conclusion: Patients’ knowledge regarding the role of anaesthesiologist and anaesthesia were average and variable.
