This chapter is devoted to the study of the role of ecological subsystem in the structure of the sustainable development program of smart city. The author suggests the logic of building the environmental strategy of the city as a long-term landmark of its sustainable development including the environmental mission, vision of the future, goals and priorities, programs and their implementation, target indicators for assessing results, and consequences of realization programs. Certain attention is paid to the city as an object of research with a focus on environmental problems. The characteristics of the factors affecting the development of the ecological situation in the city are shown. A system of criteria and indicators that can be used to assess the impact of the planned environmental activities is proposed.

The impact of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in terms of Sustainable Development (SD) has led to a great transformation in business management, which positions innovation as an essential element of differentiation for the new market conquest. These ICT, that are particularly adapted, allow creating value for the company in a sustainable way and more aligned with the global SD strategy while ensuring to bring competitive advantage and anticipate new economic, social and environmental problems. To implement an innovation approach that gives organizations the means to develop sustainable management strategies, allowing them to increase overall performance, we proposed the "ICT Sustainable Management" model which is designed according to a Green IT (GIT) and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) concepts in order to seek new transition ways for management serving SD. Our model constitutes a first research step to lead reflection on next-generation SD-oriented management models. For this reason, we consider it more appropriate to approve the validity of our model through its application on different categories of companies that use ICT. Analysis of the results of this application test has demonstrated the validity of our model at the scale of five companies. This initial validation will be supported by improvements and new tests that will be extremely useful to improve the model and to advance knowledge in this new field of research.

Studying the impact of land urbanization on smog pollution has important guiding significance for the sustainable development of cities. This study adds the spatial effect between regions into the research framework of smog pollution control in China. On the basis of a panel dataset of 31 province-level administrative regions in China from 2000 to 2017, we investigate the impact of land urbanization on smog pollution. We construct a spatial weight matrix and use Moran’s I statistic and the spatial autoregressive panel data model. The research results show that land urbanization and smog pollution have an inverted U-shaped relationship. With the advancement of land urbanization, the area’s smog pollution first increases and then decreases. However, in general, China has not passed the inflection point and is still at a stage where increasing land urbanization rate aggravates smog pollution. Moreover, the country’s smog pollution has a significant spatial positive correlation that shows agglomeration. In that context, multiple environmental governance entities, including the government, enterprises, and the public, need to collaborate on measures to reduce smog pollution. Future urban construction in China will need to integrate solutions that address the current nexus between urbanization and smog pollution to achieve green and sustainable development.

Purpose – The subjects considered in this research paper form the basic prerequisites for improving the effectiveness of organizational development. The author assumes that the effectiveness of any process depends on the size of the reserve of capacity of the resources used in the process (for details, see Appendix). The purpose of this paper is to determine the conditions for the effectiveness of improvement projects. Design/methodology/approach – The author has constructed an algorithm (called ABC) to control the capacity of resources. With its help, the author defines the strategy for improvement in an organization. The basic principle of this strategy is continuous improvement, and tactics to control resources refers to the ABC algorithm. Findings – The author shows that continuous improvement is a prerequisite for the effectiveness of this strategy. It is shown that the features of this strategy reflect sustainable development of the organization. Along with the algorithm ABC, it forms a basis for the sustainable development strategy. The author shows conditions for effectiveness and explains how the strategy shapes the sustainable development of the organization. The author also explains why commitment of top management is necessary, what it is, and how it can benefit the organization. Practical implications – This effort is symbolized by the involvement of resources in projects conducted to improve organizational functions. The result of the capacity growth is increased ability to confront new challenges. Originality/value – The author claims that the strategy for sustainable development is shaping the conditions for a gradual increase in the capacity of the resources used in the improvement process. The growth in resource capacity in the repeatedly run improvement projects can serve as a model of organizational learning. The learning process requires effort.

Water resources constraints of Chinas future sustainable development have been the most important strategic issue, so China's sustainable development strategy must be built on the basis of a clear strategy for water resources. Chinese government has begun to pay attention to the comprehensive management of water resources, especially to improve the efficiency of water use and the control of water pollution as an important and urgent task. Rivers flowing through cities are subject to serious water pollution, some even affect the drinking water which is directly related to the sustainable development of urban society and economy and people's quality of life. Urban water pollution has become an urgent problem, the Government is also aware of the urgency of water pollution, the need to develop a pollution control plan, but progress is not satisfactory.
