Determining the fetal number to avoid pregnant sheep management, feeding, and delivery issues is of vital importance. This study aimed to determine the levels of pregnancy-associated glycoprotein (PAG) and pregnancy-specific protein B (PSPB), which are pregnancy proteins, to accurately predict singleton and twin pregnancies in Awassi sheep. A total of 40 Awassi sheep were used for the study. According to the number of offspring, pregnant ewes were separated into two groups. The study's first group (Group 1) included singleton pregnant ewe (n=20), while the second group (Group 2) included twin pregnant ewe (n=20). Blood samples were collected from the ewes of both study groups at 30th, 45th, 60th, 75th and 90th day of gestation, which were used for PAG and PSBP evaluation along with ultrasonographic examination. Independent samples t-test and repeated measurements ANOVA were used to analyze the data. The correlations between the measures were calculated using Pearson correlation coefficients. Accordingly, a statistically significant difference was observed between single and twin pregnant sheep for all PAG and PSBP measurements at days 30-45-60-75 and 90 (p<0.05). In singleton and twin pregnant ewes, there was a statistically significant difference in PAG and PSBP measurements (p<0.05). In singleton pregnant ewes, a significant positive correlation was found between PAG30 and PSPB30 values (p<0.05), while a significant negative correlation was found between paired measures of PAG45-PSPB90, PAG60-PSPB90, and PAG75-PSPB90 (p<0.05). In conclusion, significant differences in pregnancy protein levels were found in singleton and twin pregnant ewes. It was deduced that knowledge of this difference might give sheep breeders an idea about management factors.

ABSTRACT The pregnant ewe compensates the reduced carbohydrate availability in late pregnancy by increased fat combustion. The purpose of the present study was to examine the adaptation of plasma growth hormone (GH) and insulin levels to this change in energy substrate metabolism. Two groups of ewes were bled in the post-absorptive state at different stages of pregnancy. One group (7 animals) was fed adequately throughout pregnancy, while the other received a maintenance ration for non-pregnant sheep (28 animals). Plasma GH increased from averages from 2–3 to 8–14 ng/ml during the last month before lambing. Shearing of the wool combined with a cold stress resulted in a clearly detectable peak in plasma GH in the underfed sheep. No significant difference in plasma GH attributable to differences in diet could be detected in late pregnancy. Plasma insulin decreased steadily the last 5 weeks towards lambing, most in mothers with 3 lambs. Plasma free fatty acid levels (FFA) increased the last 2 months of pregnancy, most in the underfed sheep. GH and FFA were positively correlated (r = 0.50 and 0.30 in the two groups). It is concluded that the adaptation of the maternal metabolism to reduced carbohydrate - and eventually energy-availability in late pregnancy included lowering of insulin and enhancement of plasma GH levels. These adaptations were detectable under the present conditions the last 5–6 weeks before term.

AimsThis study was designed to explore the expression and distribution of silent information regulator 1 (SIRT1) and superoxide dismutase 1 (SOD-1) in various regions of the brains of patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD), as well as to assess potential correlations between the levels of these proteins and also between these proteins and the Braak stage of AD.MethodsIn the temporal and frontal cortices, hippocampus and cerebellum of 10 patients with AD and 10 age-matched control subjects, expression of SIRT1 and SOD-1, together with histopathology, were assessed by immunohistochemical and immunofluorescent stainings. Relationships between variables were examined with the Pearson correlation test.ResultsThe numbers of both SIRT1-positive and SOD-1-positive neurons and integrated optical density of immunohistochemical staining for these proteins in the temporal and frontal cortices, and hippocampus of patients with AD were significantly decreased than those in corresponding controls. In the case of the cerebellum, very weak expression of SIRT1 and obvious expression of SOD-1 were observed in granule cells, with no significant difference between AD and the control group. Interestingly, the protein levels between SIRT1 and SOD-1, as well as the level of SIRT1 or SOD-1 and Braak stage, were significantly correlated in neurons in all regions of the AD brains investigated except for the cerebellum.ConclusionsThese findings indicate that the reduced level of SIRT1 in the brains of patients with AD may be related to the decline in SOD-1 and neuropathological changes of this disorder.

Abstract Introduction Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a chronic condition that is characterized by intermittent hypoxia. Key regulator of oxygen metabolism is hypoxia inducible factor (HIF), which consists of oxygen sensitive subunit and continuously produced subunit. Circadian clock is composed of set of genes, which function as activators - CLOCK and BMAL 1, who similarly to HIF are basic helix-loop-helix-PER-ARNT-SIM transcription factors. Therefore, the aim of the study was to assess the relationship between HIF-1alpha, HIF-1beta, CLOCK, BMAL1 and polysomnography (PSG) variables in healthy individuals and severe OSA patients. Methods The study included 20 individuals, who underwent PSG and based on apnea-hypopnea index (AHI) were divided into severe OSA group (n=10; AHI30; 90% male) and healthy control (n=10; AHI&lt;5; 70% male). All participants had their peripheral blood collected in the evening (9:00-10:00 pm) before and in the morning (6:00-7:00 am) after the PSG. HIF-1alpha, HIF-1beta, CLOCK and BMAL1 protein concertation measurements were performed using ELISA. Results Significant difference was observed in the following protein measurements between study groups: evening and morning HIF-1 (p=0.020 and p=0.043, respectively), evening HIF-1alpha (p=0.047), evening and morning CLOCK (p=0.037 and p=0.019, respectively) and morning BMAL1 (p=0.016). No differences were observed between morning and evening protein levels in both groups. Evening HIF-1beta corraleted with evening CLOCK and morning BMAL1 (R=0.511, p=0.21 and R=0.594, p=0.006, respectively), while morning HIF-1 with evening BMAL1 (R=474, p=0.35). Furthermore, evening and morning HIF-1 correlated with evening BMAL1 (R=564, p=0.010 and R=0.689, p=0.001, respectively). Additionally, morning CLOCK and BMAL1 correlated with AHI (R=0.510, p=0.022 and R=0.560, p=0.010, respectively) and desaturation index (R=0.487, p=0.209 and R=0.570, p=0.009, respectively). Conclusion There is significant correlation between both subunits of HIF-1 protein and circadian clock proteins: CLOCK and BMAL1, which further correlate with increased disease severity. Purpose: As industries develop rapidly, the risk of heavy metals pollution and exposure in the environment and food is increasing. Even the slightest amount of heavy metals can be harmful to the human body, especially in newborn babies. This study aimed to estimate the heavy metals content in breast milk and identify related factors.Methods: Thirty-nine lactating mothers admitted to the postpartum care center in Changwon city between July 15 and September 20, 2019 were recruited. Barium, cadmium, cobalt, nickel, and lead concentrations in breast milk were measured using an inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectrometer. Collected data were analyzed using independent t-test, 1-way analysis of variance, Mann-Whitney U-test, Kruskal-Wallis test, and Pearson correlation coefficients.Results: The average concentration of heavy metals in breast milk (mg/kg) were as fellow: barium, 3.68± 1.29; cadmium, 0.03±0.06; cobalt, 0.10±0.19; nickel, 0.22±0.27; and lead, 0.13±0.26. There was a significant difference between lead concentration and monthly household income (t=2.46, p=0.019). There was a difference between a family history of diabetes and hypertension and barium concentration (t=1.97, p=0.056) and between smoking history and nickel concentration (t=-1.95, p=0.058), but they were not statistically significant. A significantly positive correlation was observed between cobalt and cadmium concentrations (r=0.93, p<0.001), and a significant negative correlation was observed between nickel and cadmium concentrations (r=-0.40, p=0.010) and cobalt concentration (r=-0.46, p=0.003). In addition, lead concentration showed a significant negative correlation with age (r=-0.39, p=0.013).Conclusions: Guidelines for safe levels of heavy metals concentrations in breast milk need to be established and lactating mothers should consider the risk factors related to heavy metals poisoning such as dietary intake, smoking, and alcohol consumption.

Blood type in saliva can be examined through bitemarks on an object left at the crime scene in a crime case as a screening test of suspected perpetrators. Saliva deposited at the bite contains glycoproteins which can carry blood type ABH antigens expressed in the salivary glands and excreted in saliva. Salivary examination is influenced by various external factors that damage saliva, one of which is the duration of exposure to room temperature in a certain period of time. This study aimed to determine differences in protein levels and blood group agglutination titers in (Pyrus bretschneideri) pear bitemark saliva during room temperature exposure within 30, 60 and 90 minutes. This type of study was experimental laboratories with time series design. The samples used were 18 pear bitemarks from 6 individuals who had blood groups A, B and AB then incubated for 30, 60 and 90 minutes. Analysis of protein content using trizol reagent was determined spectrophotometrically, while blood group examination used inhibition absorption method. Anova test showed significant difference between groups of 30 minutes exposure duration with 60 minutes and 90 minutes exposure group (P<0.05; 95% confidence interval). The Pearson correlation obtained the results of -0.739, indicating correlation that the longer exposure to room temperature, the lower the protein content. The results showed that there was a decrease in salivary protein levels and blood group agglutination titers. Salivary protein levels were still detected in the time range of 30, 60 and 90 minutes, so that blood type can still be examined from saliva in bitemarks on pear fruit.

Background: Work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSDs) are among the most common occupational disorders in many jobs. WMSDs are known as an influential factor in work productivity. Also, an important factor that may influence the occupational health of individuals is the safety climate. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationships between WMSDs, work productivity and safety climate. Methods: This quantitative, theoretical and descriptive study was performed on 344 employees. The samples were randomly selected. Data were gathered by means of the Body Map, Safety Climate, and Work Productivity questionnaires. This study was conducted on different types of jobs from three types of industries. STATISTICA software was used for all data analyses (SPSS Version 23) with a significant level of P <0.01. Results: One-way analysis of variance was used to examine the significant differences between industries and jobs, which indicated that there is a statistically significant difference. Correlations between the WMSDs, work productivity, and safety climate was tested using the parametric Pearson correlation coefficient that showed a significant negative correlation between WMSDs with work productivity and safety climate. Positive correlations were found between safety climate and work productivity. Conclusion: In general, safety climate and work productivity are important for the health and safety of employees, and this study showed that it might be also important for employees in construction industries.

The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of participation in a 1-week summer camp on thehopelessness and self-esteem of the university students attending Sport Sciences Faculty. Participants were 36university students assigned to experiment group using a random procedure. Coopersmith Self-esteem and Beck Hopelessness Scales were completed at the beginning and end of the summer camp by designed the university. The obtained data were analysed in the SPSS 18.0 program and the significance level was taken as 0.05. The descriptive statistics, independent simple t test, paired simple t test and Pearson correlation were used for analyse the data in the study. According to the results of the research, no significant difference was observed in the comparison of the hopelessness and self-esteem levels between pre and post-test. In addition, there was a significant difference in the hopelessness level of male and female students but any significant difference was not observed in terms of self-esteem. There was a significant relationship between hopelessness and self-esteem pre and post-test. These result shows that a 1-week summer camp cannot change the hopelessness or self-esteem level. However, as the self-esteem rises, the rate of despair decreases whereas as the despair rises, the selfesteem decreases.

<p>The purpose of this study were to determine: 1) the influence of the learning <br />model of creative thinking; 2) the influence of self-concept to think creatively, and 3) the influence of the interaction and the concept of self-learning model for creative thinking. The research method used was experimental method. A sample of 80 people selected at random from the 13 study groups. The data was collected by administering a written test questions to measure variables studied. Data analysis using descriptive statistics and 2-way ANOVA. The results showed: 1) a significant difference to the learning model with the ability to think creatively sig = 0.000; 2) there is a significant effect of self-concept of <br />the ability to think creatively with sig = 0.000, and 3) there is a significant interaction effect of learning model and self-concept of the ability to think creatively with sig = 0.018. </p>

Coriander (Coriandrum sativum L.) is one of the herbs which is used for medicinal and food purposes. In the present study the levels of selected metals in coriander leaves were determined in the samples collected from four different farmlands (Sebeta, Mekanisa, Holeta and Gefersa) in Ethiopia where its cultivation is common. The levels of metals were determined after digestion of samples with the mixture of 4 mL of HNO3 and 4 mL of HClO4 at 300 oC for 3:00 hours by flame atomic absorption spectrometry. The optimized wet digestion method for coriander leaves analysis was validated through the recovery experiment and a good percentage recovery was obtained (93.2-101%). The levels of metals were found in the range Ca, 2319–3503 mg/kg; Zn, 33.4–54.8 mg/kg and Cr, 5.55-9.86 mg/kg while the trace metals Cu, Ni, Cd and Pb were too low to be detected. The results indicated that Ethiopian coriander is a good source of essential metals and free from the toxic metals Pb and Cd. A statistical analysis of variance (ANOVA) at 95% confidence level indicated that there is significant difference (p &lt; 0.05) in the levels of all detected metals between the four sample means. The Pearson correlation was used to predict the dependence of metal levels on one another. The levels of the metals determined in this study compared well with those reported for coriander leaves from some other parts of the world.

Background: Pediatric cataracts are major causes of children’s blindness. Surgery has proven to be beneficial in terms of visual function prognosis. Contrast sensitivity evaluation after surgery is as important as visual acuity considering that natural world consists of various objects in low-to-medium contrasts. The purpose of this study is to analyze the difference of contrast sensitivity outcomes based on ages at surgery. Method: Retrospective data of children with pediatric developmental cataract from July 2013 to November 2015 were collected. All children who underwent cataract surgery at 60-months-old or less were randomized into two groups, ≤24 months and >24-to-60 months. Contrast sensitivity was then examined with preferential-looking method using Hiding Heidi low-contrast test face chart. The main outcome measures were contrast sensitivity of both groups. Age-at-evaluation, cataract onset, duration of follow-up, duration of deprivation and visual acuity were also noted. Result: Of 14 children (23 eyes), 11 eyes (47,8%) were in ≤24 months group, 12eyes (52,2%) were in >24-to-60 months group. All eyes underwent cataract extraction and similar type of intraocular lens implantation. Mean age-at-surgery was 28,2 months±16,8 (SD). Mean contrast sensitivity for each group was 47,50 %±42,29 and 18,33%±27,38, respectively, with p-value 0,031. Further analysis of Spearman’s correlation test demonstrated significant negative correlation (rs = -0,559; p = 0,006) between the two groups. Conclusion: There was statistically significant difference in contrast sensitivity between those who underwent surgery at ≤24 months and >24-to-60 months. Children who underwent surgery at older ages tend to have better contrast sensitivity afterwards.
