Aim of the study: Karakul sheep farming is one of the effective subsectors of animal breeding in the southwestern region of Kazakhstan. Sheep coloring is a result of genetic factors. Breeding can provide farmers with offspring of the desired color through the selection of parental couples. Materials: This research introduces an index method for breeding sur-type sheep with the proportion of underfur fibers under 25%. Such a proportion of underfur fibers provides a 15.25% deeper color within the breed at the 25.3% higher chance of getting platinum shades. Methods: Platinum coloring in sheep makes them less piebald. The inheritance index is quite stable and is within 55.66-65.66%. In the breeding flock, the initial proportion of sur-type lambs which could be used in coat making (elite class) was up to 8.72%. The analysis of platinum color heritability by Kazakh sur-type karakul sheep shows that this color is inherited as a dominant one in the line breeding. The share of sur-type sheep with platinum shades was between 85.85% and 87.27%. Results: The difference in the inherited trait between the groups of sheep selected according to the proportion of underfur fibers was insignificant, 0.99-1.42% (P > 0.05). The stabilizing selection introduced into the theory of line breeding of Kazakh sur-type sheep allowed optimizing the variability of selected features to the level of desired parameters. The authors have proposed the index selection method for sur-type sheep breeding that can be applied to improve the Atyrau sheep flock, to increase their genetic potential, and to apply various line breeding levels to accelerate the breeding process. Conclusions: The originally designed method for improving breeding indexes will be useful when setting optimal breeding goals (fur color and quality) and assessing genetic parameters of a certain sheep flock. The study was approved by the Ethics Committee attached to the Far Eastern State Agrarian University (Protocol No. 5 of 25 May 2010).

This paper reports the results of an experiment carried out at Roseworthy Agricultural College from 1953 to 1966 comparing two bases of selection of rams: (1) visual appraisal (the "visual" method); (2) visual culling of 70% of rams followed by selection of breeding animals from the remaining 30% on the basis of clean fleece weight (the "index" method). No selection for fleece weight was practiced on ewes. Seven rams were used in each of the two flocks, and six of the seven were replaced each year by 16-month-old animals from the succeeding drop, the seventh being a year older. Rams used for breeding in the Index flock were significantly higher in clean fleece weight than those of the Visual flock, and were higher, though not always significantly so, in greasy fleece weight. This led to a divergence between the flocks for clean fleece weight (P < 0.05), with an increase of c. 0.05 lb per year per head for the Index animals over the Visual animals. The Index rams were more wrinkly and lighter, on the whole, than the Visual rams, and the wrinkly effect carried over into their offspring with a slight divergence apparent, the Index animals becoming more wrinkled than the Visual (P < 0.05). In fibre diameter there were no differences between selected animals or between flocks. Visual rams tended to have more crimps per inch in their wool, and this was observed in the flocks also, but the divergence was not significant (P > 0.05). Index rams had longer wool than Visual rams, with the difference generally significant within years, and this tendency carried over in a lesser manner to the flocks. Fleece density was generally greater in the Index group, though not usually significantly so. This experiment did not include a randomly bred control flock, but was rather designed to compare two practical methods of selecting rams. Merits of this scheme are discussed in the light of both groups' failure to show increases in fleece weight over the course of the experiment

The yield of black currant is one of the most important economic indicators of the variety. It is determined by many factors; one of them is morphological features of a bush: the number of main branches, length of shoots, the number of tassels (bunches), the number of berries in the bunch and the mass of berries. The article explores differences in the real and prospective productivity of new black currant hybrids in the selection of Far-Eastern State Agrarian University. The researchers investigated two hybrids, identified by the results of many years research in the selection garden. Novosel variety was chosen as a control one as it has higher taste properties of berries and productivity than other zoned variety Amurskiy konservnyy. The research was carried out in accordance with the program and methods of variety study of fruit, berry and nut crops, developed in Russian Research Institute of Fruit Crops Selection in 1999. Prospective productivity of new hybrids of black currant is much higher than that of the control variety Novosel. New varieties of black currant have longer fruit-bearing shoots and greater number of bearing nodes. Otherwise, the real yield does not differ significantly from the control one. The differences in real and prospective productivity are mainly determined by external factors. This indicates the necessity to develop varietal agricultural machinery that reduces crop losses.  The article highlights the reasons that result in decrease in the real productivity of black currant. They are high temperatures in the ripening period. One of the studied hybrids (9-26) is promising for horticulture in Amur region, as it has bigger berries than that of zoned varieties.

In this review paper, contradictions in modern livestock production as dilemmas of farm animal welfare are considered. The main dilemma concerns the question of whether extensive production in small farms is generally better than intensive production in large farms. The next dilemma relates to an intensive selection of animals and its impact on the emergence of welfare problems. Another dilemma is related to the two main interconnected problems of pig welfare in individual farrowing pens: the piglet death by crushing and the sows? movement restriction. Similarly, welfare dilemma is the paradox of parent flocks of broiler line breeding that could not be solved until the pressure for genetic advancement in production is required due to the economic efficiency. The next example of the dilemma is the widespread practice of tail docking in piglets in order to reduce the risk of tail biting. Although the tail docking is painful and may cause death, anaesthesia is usually not applied on farms. A similar example of the dilemma is debeaking in the laying hens and the occurrence of feather pecking in free rearing systems. It is important to notice the difference between the described dilemmas, where one premise opposes the other, which is essentially a conflict between the animal welfare goals and other values, such as economic, ethical and moral issues. Finally, there are also some dilemmas about the consumers? willingness to pay a higher price of products that originate from welfare friendly rearing conditions.

The construction and selection of a suitable bijective function, that is, substitution, is now becoming an important applied task, particularly for building block encryption systems. Many articles have suggested using different approaches to determining the quality of substitution, but most of them are highly computationally complex. The solution of this problem will significantly expand the range of methods for constructing and analyzing scheme in information protection systems. The purpose of research is to find easily measurable characteristics of substitutions, allowing to evaluate their quality, and also measures of the proximity of a particular substitutions to a random one, or its distance from it. For this purpose, several characteristics were proposed in this work: difference and polynomial, and their mathematical expectation was found, as well as variance for the difference characteristic. This allows us to make a conclusion about its quality by comparing the result of calculating the characteristic for a particular substitution with the calculated mathematical expectation. From a computational point of view, the thesises of the article are of exceptional interest due to the simplicity of the algorithm for quantifying the quality of bijective function substitutions. By its nature, the operation of calculating the difference characteristic carries out a simple summation of integer terms in a fixed and small range. Such an operation, both in the modern and in the prospective element base, is embedded in the logic of a wide range of functional elements, especially when implementing computational actions in the optical range, or on other carriers related to the field of nanotechnology.

The article analyzes the dynamics of the indicators of target enrollment and education at the Federal State Budget Educational Institution of Higher Education of the Far Eastern State Medical University of the Ministry of Health of Russia for the period from 2013 to 2018, a comparative assessment of the passing score for the places of targeted enrollment and the main places depending on the specialty (training direction) was made, average mark of a unified state exam (USE) was analyzed; the agreements on targeted training with the assessment of measures of social support were analyzed, as well as proposals were formulated to improve the activities of targeted training of medical personnel.

Abstract Purpose Mortality appears to be lower in family caregivers than in the general population. However, there is lack of knowledge whether the difference in mortality between family caregivers and the general population is dependent on age. The purpose of this study was to analyze all-cause mortality in relation to age in family caregivers and to study their cause-specific mortality using data from multiple Finnish national registers. Methods The data included all individuals, who received family caregiver's allowance in Finland in 2012 (n = 42 256, mean age 67 years, 71% women) and a control population matched for age, sex, and municipality of residence (n = 83 618). Information on dates and causes of death between 2012 and 2017 were obtained from the Finnish Causes of Death Register. Flexible parametric survival modeling and competing risk regression adjusted for socioeconomic status were used. Results The total follow-up time was 717 877 person-years. Family caregivers had lower all-cause mortality than the controls over the follow-up (8.1% vs. 11.6%) both among women (hazard ratio [HR]: 0.64, 95% CI: 0.61-0.68) and men (HR: 0.73, 95% CI: 0.70-0.77). Younger adult caregivers had equal or only slightly lower mortality than their controls, but after age 60, the difference increased markedly resulting in over 10% lower mortality in favor of the caregivers in the oldest age groups. Caregivers had lower mortality for all the causes of death studied, namely cardiovascular, cancer, neurological, external, respiratory, gastrointestinal and dementia than the controls. Of these, the lowest was the risk for dementia (subhazard ratio=0.29, 95%CI: 0.25-0.34). Conclusions Older family caregivers have lower mortality than the age-matched controls from the general population while younger caregivers have similar mortality to their peers. This age-dependent advantage in mortality is likely to reflect selection of healthier individuals into the family caregiver role. Key messages The difference in mortality between family caregivers and the age-matched general population varies considerably with age. Advantage in mortality observed in family caregiver studies is likely to reflect the selection of healthier individuals into the caregiver role, which underestimates the adverse effects of caregiving.

AbstractWe report the development of a lab-on-a-chip system, that facilitates coupled dielectrophoretic detection (DEP-D) and impedimetric counting (IM-C), for investigating drug resistance in K562 and CCRF-CEM leukemia cells without (immuno) labeling. Two IM-C units were placed upstream and downstream of the DEP-D unit for enumeration, respectively, before and after the cells were treated in DEP-D unit, where the difference in cell count gave the total number of trapped cells based on their DEP characteristics. Conductivity of the running buffer was matched the conductivity of cytoplasm of wild type K562 and CCRF-CEM cells. Results showed that DEP responses of drug resistant and wild type K562 cells were statistically discriminative (at p = 0.05 level) at 200 mS/m buffer conductivity and at 8.6 MHz working frequency of DEP-D unit. For CCRF-CEM cells, conductivity and frequency values were 160 mS/m and 6.2 MHz, respectively. Our approach enabled discrimination of resistant cells in a group by setting up a threshold provided by the conductivity of running buffer. Subsequent selection of drug resistant cells can be applied to investigate variations in gene expressions and occurrence of mutations related to drug resistance.
