One solution for meeting the needs of habitable housing for people, especially the middle to bottom is vertical housing or flats, this makes the availability of residential demand is increasing. In the process of vertical residential development should not only be limited to the provision of the physical aspects of the building, but also must consider the availability of green open space, which is based on the Law of Indonesia no. 26 of 2007 on Spatial Planning. Provision of green open space in the flats environment are very essential since beside becoming a place for socializing, open spaces are also has ecological function as a water catchment. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between the user and the activities undertaken in theuse of green open space in the flat. The methods of research used is descriptive method to provide an overview of the user involvement and activities undertaken in the use of green open space. The results showed that the use ofgreen open spaces tend to be widely used by housewives and children paticularly in the morning and in the afternoon. The actvities include social interaction, play, sit and exercise.

<p><strong>Abstract</strong><strong></strong></p><p>The quality of public outdoor space has recently become an important issue and has been revealed by many studies. However, there are few studies that show the relationship between the quality of space and the social interaction that occurs between people. The most important goal of urban designers should be to create public open spaces that can meet the various needs of people. Using longer and more frequently, public open spaces allow the fulfilment of needs and also support social interaction.  In this context, the concept of 'quality' of public open spaces is gaining importance. The quality of open spaces revealed by different characteristics of the environment has been determined by evaluating of the open spaces by their inclusiveness, meaningful activities, comfort, security and pleasurability and revealed the relationship between social interaction (passive-fleeting-enduring relationship). In order to determine this relationship, a questionnaire was conducted with 140 people (70 people in each park) in Atatürk Square Park and Fatih Park in Trabzon. As a result, a high level of relationship was found between the factors of inclusiveness, comfort and meaningful activities that determine the quality of space and social interaction.</p><p><strong>Öz </strong></p><p>Kamusal açık mekânın kalitesi son zamanlarda üzerinde önemle durulan bir konu haline gelmiş ve birçok çalışma tarafından ortaya konmuştur.

AbstractWhen discussing Green Open Space (RTH), of course its existence is something that is underestimated by most people even by the district/city government. This is because the mindset of the community and the government that considers the development of Green Open Spaces is not too important is carried out because of the lack of feedback provided by Green Open Spaces to the community and government so that the land of a Regency / City area is overcrowded by other infrastructure developments plus other with the increase in population, resulting in the need for new Green Open Spaces in their minds. The research method used is a qualitative approach with data collection techniques through literature or literature studies. This was only realized because of the community's need for a place to release the fatigue that afflicts due to the many demands from work, the worsening of air quality in a Regency/City area as a result of the rise of industry and motorized vehicles which make the air increasingly polluted by air pollution, and also the lack of land for accommodate water when it rains which makes many areas flooded when it rains because of the lack of water catchment areas. Keywords: Development Planning; Green Open Space; Regulation   AbstrakBila membahas Ruang Terbuka Hijau (RTH) tentunya keberadaannya bagaikan sesuatu yang dianggap remeh oleh kebanyakan orang bahkan oleh pemerintah kabupaten/kota.

PurposeThis study examines the relationship between quality and quantity of open space in residential areas and the sense of community of Chinese older adults in Hong Kong.Design/methodology/approachA survey was conducted with 257 adults aged 55 and over in Kwun Tong, Hong Kong. The quality of open space was assessed from four dimensions: social and recreational facilities, entrance, location and environment. Geographic information system (GIS) was used to evaluate the quantity of open space in terms of size and amount.FindingsThe result shows that the environment has a strong influence on the sense of community, while the quantity of open space does not. The results provide urban planners with evidence for open space planning in the future. Urban planners should consider building more people-oriented environment; such as green areas instead of merely increasing the size, amount and facilities of open space. The Hong Kong Government also needs to review the current standardised planning guideline in order to maximise the social connection of older adults.Originality/valueThis cross-sectional study tried to understand the relationship between the quality and quantity of open spaces and sense of community in Chinese older adults in Hong Kong. It is one of the few studies to simultaneously examine both the quality and quantity of open spaces when studying its relationship with sense of community.

abstrakUndang-undang Republik Indonesia No 26 Tahun 2007 tentang Penataan Ruang, menetapkan harustersedia Ruang Terbuka Hijau sebesar 30% dari luas Daerah Aliran Sungai (DAS). No.26 of 2007 on Spatial Planning determines that 30% of Watershed must be available for open spaces. TheRegulation of The Minister of Agragrian and Spatial Planning Number 16 of 2018 determines that 10% of openspaces must be available for private open spaces. It aims to improve the quality of environment in urban areasincluding the availability of infiltration, air freshening, and aesthetic aspects. However, not many Indonesians knowthis regulation. Even many developers do not pay attention to this aspect and house buyers do not know the openspace requirements for building or developing buildings. Most houses at Karanglo Indah Housing ( as a pilotproject, RT 8, RW 4) are still lack of open spaces as the green environment. This is because the yard is full ofbuildings. This Community Service aims to provide information to that community so that they understand theimportance of open space. Since the Community Service was carried out during the Covid-19 pandemic which mustcomply with health protocols and physical distancing, the information is only given to the head of NeighborhoodAssociation, head of Family Welfare Group and head of a Group of ten families. The result of this activity is a pilotgreen environment as planting vegetable plants, both vertical and floating hydroponics and plants in polybags.Besides enlarging the green environment, this activity also supports food independence activities in the era ofCovid-19 pandemic.

Neighborhood Open Spaces (NOS) such as public spaces around people’s homes, parks and village greens, may support activity and socializing for older adults. These spaces might be especially important for older adults as they typically are less mobile and have smaller activity spaces and social networks than other age groups. The present exploratory sequential mixed methods study investigates the association between built environment features, social interaction, and walking within NOS, among older adults living in a low socio-economic neighborhood in Copenhagen. Interviews, the Community Park Audit Tool, and the System for Observing Play and Recreation in Communities (SOPARC) were used to capture quantitative and qualitative data on 353 older adults (59–90 years old) within 11 NOS. Walking was predicted by the condition and shade along paths, seating and landscaping. Social interaction was negatively associated with walking, suggesting that older adults tend to sit down when engaging in social activities. Interviews highlighted the importance of social interaction within NOS. Future designs of NOS should acknowledge the importance of social meeting places, but at the same time provide walkable spaces for older adults to promote healthy aging.

Agribusiness may potentially develop on Palu Riversides. This research aims to formulate a sustainable agricultural spatial innovation for the Development of Agribusiness Places on Palu Riversides. The methods used for this study were field observation, satellite image map observation, and literature review. The results showed that the implementation of sustainable agriculture through the development of agribusiness places in urban areas could take advantage of the open spaces designated as green open space zone on the Palu Riversides, namely the River Green Area which is outside the riparian zone, the river overflow runoff area. To achieve this objective, it requires ability to innovate in spatial planning so that an urban agricultural area that is neatly arranged into an agribusiness places can also be developed into one of the city landmark.

Tangerang City is one of the cities in the Tangerang region which is known as a city of a thousand parks with various types and functions. Tangerang City is consists of 13 sub-districts, one of them is Tangerang SubDistrict that has an area of 17,45 km² based on land use Tangerang Sub-District is has a more diverse and wider green open space and as an ecologically is.complete for all aspect in landscape structure compared to other sub-districts. Landscape structure is an arrangement of landscape elements consisting of green open spaces in form of corridors as the green belt along the river, the green belt along the railroad, matrix as soccer field, network as the green belt along the way, and patches as road island (Godron, 1963: 83). Although as an ecologically is complete.compared to other sub-districts, however, the Spatial Planning requires 30% and the area is green open space. For this reason, it is necessary to evaluate the existence of green open space, evaluation is done as an effort to achieve the goal of forming a system of green open space as an effort to increase the percentage of green open space to 30% of the total area. This research was conducted with a qualitative approach, while the qualitative stage is to evaluate the fulfillment of the criteria and each of the mapped green open spaces. Data collection is done by survey methods in the form of observations, questionnaires and interviews, whereas to do data analysis using the assessment method, which is often done to evaluate the existence of green open space (Besari, 2014).

Background:Public open spaces (POS) are recognized as important to promote physical activity engagement. However, it is unclear how POS attributes, such as activities available, environmental quality, amenities present, and safety, are associated with neighborhood-level walkability and deprivation. Methods:Twelve neighborhoods were selected within 1 constituent city of Auckland, New Zealand based on higher (n = 6) or lower (n = 6) walkability characteristics. Neighborhoods were dichotomized as more (n = 7) or less (n = 5) socioeconomically deprived. POS (n = 69) were identified within these neighborhoods and audited using the New Zealand-Public Open Space Tool. Unpaired 1-way analysis of variance tests were applied to compare differences in attributes and overall score of POS by neighborhood walkability and deprivation. Results:POS located in more walkable neighborhoods have significantly higher overall scores when compared with less walkable neighborhoods. Deprivation comparisons identified POS located in less deprived communities have better quality environments, but fewer activities and safety features present when compared with more deprived neighborhoods. Conclusions:A positive relationship existed between presence of POS attributes and neighborhood walkability, but the relationship between POS and neighborhood-level deprivation was less clear. Variation in neighborhood POS quality alone is unlikely to explain poorer health outcomes for residents in more deprived areas.

The construction of high-rise flats to minimize urban slum areas in Indonesia still create space use behavior problems for its residents due to the changes of space configuration between high-rise landed housing. Conventional high-rise flats cannot well accommodate the needs of social interactions happened in landed housing because of its spatial limitation that leads to uncertainty of space use behavior settings. This study aims to understand the relationship between spatial configuration on high-rise flats and social interaction levels of its residents. The object of study is Jatinegara Barat high-rise flats built to relocate slums community from the landed housing in Kampong Pulo. This study applies mix method research using space syntax method to analyze spatial configuration by looking at connectivity and space integration values, and then comparing it with social interaction data from place centered observation to find out the level of interaction and spaces tendency used interaction place. The results of this study indicate that: (1) the relationship of spatial configuration to social interaction level in Jatinegara Barat flats can be positive or negative. (2) Positive relationships are found on the1st and 2ndfloor areas. High configuration values with high interaction levels are found in shared spaces on the 1st and 2nd floors with characteristics such as open space, large space, and availability of interaction supporting elements, while low configuration values with low interaction levels are found in more confined spaces such as private spaces and narrow corridors. (3) Negative relationships are found in the corridor and shared space in front of the elevator on each typical floors. Shared space in front of the elevator that has high spatial configuration value with large area show a low level of social interaction. While corridor with lower configuration value with the narrow area but have supporting elements such as chairs, mats, and shops have a higher level of social interaction. (4) This study shows that in the case of the relationship between spatial configuration and social interaction, availability of interaction supporting elements has greater influence rather than any other spatial factors.
