The post-disaster road monitoring system provides an interesting application area for wireless sensor networks. After the earthquake, roads are subject to be blocked by landslides. The people require a scalable and low-cost technology for getting real-time dynamic data about road available because aftershocks occur continuously. Wireless sensor networks are a promising candidate to fulfill these requirements. Then the post-disaster road monitoring system solution is put forward. In this system, the ordered arrangement of node number greatly reduces the complexity of node location and provides the premise and guarantee for designing efficient route algorithm for the system. The algorithms of route established and route forwarding are designed for the arrangement and transmission characteristics of nodes, then are more efficient than general-purpose route protocol.

In this study, in combination with mobile communication technology, sensor technology and computer technology, a tracking and monitoring system solution for preventing children and the elderly from getting lost is proposed. With the purpose of realizing monitoring and exerting no effect on the normal activities of the monitored objects, a mobile wireless terminal is applied in this system. Through using embedded microcontroller controller as control core, data acquisition, storage, and distance detection are realized. Through using embedded GPS positioning technology and GSM technology, the instant positions of the monitored children and the elderly are detected. When the monitored objects need to move in a fixed place (kindergarten or nursing home), portable terminals can communicate with computer control terminals and will automatically send a signal for providing warnings and informing computers and guardians when the monitored objects exceed the warning scope, so that it becomes easier for guardians to take corresponding measures in time. Besides, the system can effectively prevent children and the elderly from getting lost, or the emergence of other dangers.

The contribution deals with design of customer–provider relationship monitoring system solution with regard to needs of business managers and analytics and to possibilities of contemporaneous information and communication technologies.The attention is followed to targeted modelling, what brings possibilities of acquisition of bigger overview about things taking place in the relation. In consequence it describes the functionality of analytical systems producing these very strategically valuable models – to so-called business intelligence tools. Onward it deals with modern technologies conductive to above mentioned system implementation – with Ajax concept and with some XML applications: PMML for analytical models manipulation, XSLT for XML data transformations to various formats, SVG for representing pictures of statistical graphs etc. and MathML for description of mathematical formulas created in analytical systems.Following these basis it suggests technological solution of some parts of client–provider relationship watching and evaluating system and it discusses its potential advantages and problems, which can occur.

Background Sleep is essential for human health. Considerable effort has been put into academic and industrial research and in the development of wireless body area networks for sleep monitoring in terms of nonintrusiveness, portability, and autonomy. With the help of rapid advances in smart sensing and communication technologies, various sleep monitoring systems (hereafter, sleep monitoring systems) have been developed with advantages such as being low cost, accessible, discreet, contactless, unmanned, and suitable for long-term monitoring. Objective This paper aims to review current research in sleep monitoring to serve as a reference for researchers and to provide insights for future work. Specific selection criteria were chosen to include articles in which sleep monitoring systems or devices are covered. Methods This review investigates the use of various common sensors in the hardware implementation of current sleep monitoring systems as well as the types of parameters collected, their position in the body, the possible description of sleep phases, and the advantages and drawbacks. In addition, the data processing algorithms and software used in different studies on sleep monitoring systems and their results are presented. This review was not only limited to the study of laboratory research but also investigated the various popular commercial products available for sleep monitoring, presenting their characteristics, advantages, and disadvantages. In particular, we categorized existing research on sleep monitoring systems based on how the sensor is used, including the number and type of sensors, and the preferred position in the body. In addition to focusing on a specific system, issues concerning sleep monitoring systems such as privacy, economic, and social impact are also included. Finally, we presented an original sleep monitoring system solution developed in our laboratory. Results By retrieving a large number of articles and abstracts, we found that hotspot techniques such as big data, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and data mining have not been widely applied to the sleep monitoring research area. Accelerometers are the most commonly used sensor in sleep monitoring systems. Most commercial sleep monitoring products cannot provide performance evaluation based on gold standard polysomnography. Conclusions Combining hotspot techniques such as big data, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and data mining with sleep monitoring may be a promising research approach and will attract more researchers in the future. Balancing user acceptance and monitoring performance is the biggest challenge in sleep monitoring system research.
