<b><i>Introduction:</i></b> Psychological health is important to old patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) after prostatic surgery. In this retrospective cohort study, we evaluated the effect of personalized preoperative education in the reduction of perioperative anxiety in old BPH patients after prostatic surgery. <b><i>Methods:</i></b> Senior patients (≥65 years) admitted with a diagnosis of BPH and scheduled for initial transurethral resection of the prostate from January 1, 2017 to November 30, 2019 were retrieved. Patients in the preoperatively educated group completed the Chinese version of generalized anxiety disorder 7-item scale (GAD-7) form to evaluate their anxiety level at admission and 14 days clinical visits after individual preoperative education. Patients in the control group completed GAD-7 forms but did not receive personalized preoperative education. Patients in both groups discussed their disease with physicians during clinic visits and after admission, and were given an informed consent about their treatment plans. <b><i>Results:</i></b> Seven hundred and twenty-four patients were retrieved, including 312 patients who received preoperative education and 412 patients who did not. There were significantly lower postoperative GAD-7 score and fewer moderate to severe postoperative anxiety patients in the preoperatively educated group (<i>p</i> &#x3c; 0.01). Patients with education above secondary education level had less perioperative anxiety. <b><i>Conclusion:</i></b> Personalized education incorporated with shared valuable physiological and psychological experience and expectations dealing with BPH, in comparison to traditional uniformed patient education and informed consent before surgery, may reduce perioperative anxiety more efficiently in BPH patients. A higher educational level helps patients reduce perioperative anxiety before and after their personalized preoperative education.

Abstract Background Schizophrenia is a severe psychiatric disorder. Poor medical adherence increases relapse rate. Long-acting injection of antipsychotic agent is developed for improving medical adherence. In this study, we examined the effect of paliperidone long-acting injection (PLAI) treatment in patients with schizophrenia in a real-world setting. Methods In this retrospective cohort study, 467 patients with schizophrenia were enrolled, treated with risperidone PLAI or oral antipsychotics, and followed for 1 year. Concomitant medication, namely anticonvulsants, antidepressants, anxiolytics, sedatives or hypnotics, anticholinergics, and beta-blockers, were administered. Patients were classified into 2 groups: the LAI group (patients received LAI for treatment) and the NLAI group (patients taking only oral antipsychotics). The incidence of hospitalization, the length of hospitalization, and the incidence of emergency room visits were assessed. Results The LAI group had a higher incidence of psychiatric acute ward admission (NLAI group = 4.8%; LAI = 30.3%) and emergency room visits (NLAI group = 7.3%; LAI group = 36.0%) before enrolment. During the one-year follow-up, the incidence of acute ward admission and emergency room visit did not differ in the NLAI group (P = .586 and .241) compared with before enrolment, whereas both incidences were significantly decreased in the LAI group (P < .0001 in both of them). Conclusions PLAI reduces the incidence of admission and emergency room visits.

Osseointegration of a dental implant may encounter a variety of problems caused by various factors, as prior health-related problems, patients habits and the technique of the implant inserting. Retrospective cohort study of 70 patients who received implants between January 2011- April 2016 in one dental unit, with Kaplan-Meier method to calculate the probability of implantss survival at 60 months. The analysis included demographic data, age, gender, medical history, behavior risk factors, type and location of the implant. For this cohort the implantssurvival for the first 6 months was 92.86% compared to the number of patients and 97.56% compared to the number of total implants performed, with a cumulative failure rate of 2.43% after 60 months. Failures were focused exclusively on posterior mandible implants, on the percentage of 6.17%, odds ratio (OR) for these failures being 16.76 (P = 0.05) compared with other localisations of implants, exclusively in men with median age of 42 years.
