COVID-19 pandemic has influenced all levels of the instruction framework, especially in University education. Since March 26, 2020, public holidays was pronounced by the Government of Bangladesh in all educational institutions which hamper the students’ everyday schedules and affect their both physical and mental wellbeing. This study aims to explore the impact of COVID-19 among the university students in Bangladesh by identifying their socio-demographic condition, changes in livelihood, and distinctly measuring the social, economic, educational, technological, and psychological impact. Quantitative research design is followed in this study where participants were selected using convenience sampling (135 respondents) through an online survey (Google Forms). The time period of data collection was from August to October 2020. From this study, university students have experienced both social stigmatization and economic crisis due to the pandemic. Furthermore, the maximum has experienced anxiety, loneliness, emotional breakdown, sleeping disorder, keep checking the news in the little time interval, difficulty to connect with daily normal life, tensed about re-infected by COVID-19. Besides, due to the inadequate availability of internet in remote and rural areas, the speed and cost of internet, the availability of electronic devices to access the internet, and the lack of interaction between students and teachers. Indeed, it is high time that the government and associated educational institutions should make a proper plan about how to overcome the challenges of ongoing university students’ condition to improve the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic as early as possible.

The objective of this article is to examine the impact of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) upon university students’ anxiety level and to find the factors associated with the anxiety level in Malaysia. We collected data from 958 students from 16 different universities using an originally designed questionnaire. The Generalized Anxiety Disorder Scale 7-item (GAD-7) was used to estimate the anxiety. Then we applied the ordered logit model to calculate the odds ratios (OR) and factors associated with the anxiety level. We find that 12.3% of students were normal, whereas 30.5% were experiencing mild anxiety, 31.1% moderate anxiety, and 26.1% severe anxiety. Surprisingly, only 37.2% of students were aware of mental health support that was provided by their universities. However, age above 20 years (OR = 1.30), ethnicity Chinese (OR = 1.72), having any other disease (OR = 2.0), decreased family income (OR = 1.71), more time spent on watching COVID-19-related news (OR = 1.52), and infected relative or friends (OR = 1.62) were risk factors for anxiety among students. We conclude that the government of Malaysia should monitor the mental health of the universities’ students more closely and universities should open online mental health support clinics to avoid the adverse impacts of anxiety.

COVID-19 has spread throughout the world and has resulted in significant morbidity, mortality, and negative psychological impact. This prospective cross-sectional study is exploring the effect of the pandemic on mental health of medical students. The study was conducted at six Jordanian medical schools using an online survey to collect students’ socio-demographic and academic data. Assessment of mental wellbeing status was done using Kessler’s psychological stress scale (K10); the impact of COVID-19 on life activities and strategies followed to manage the situation were also examined. A total of 553 medical students were recruited for the study. Men constituted 40.1%, and women were 59.9%. Students reported that COVID-19 has affected the aspects of physical fitness (73.1%), study (68.4%), and social relationships (65.6%) the most. Sixty-six percent of the students were concerned about family members’ affection, and more than half (58.4%) explained their concerns about the inability to get clinical sessions and labs. Cooking, baking, and hobby practicing were the most popular methods to improve their mental wellbeing. About half of the participants had a severe mental disorder, and only 13.2% were likely to be well. The study indicates that half of our medical students suffer severe mental disorders, with physical fitness, exercise, and studying being among the most affected aspects during the COVID 19 pandemic. It is recommended that measures need be taken to alleviate students’ stress, which might have deleterious effects in many aspects.

AbstractThis article examines the impact of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) upon university students’ anxiety level and finds the factors associated with the anxiety disorder in Malaysia. Surprisingly, only 37.2% of students were aware of mental health support which was provided by their universities. Moreover, it was found that gender as male (Odds Ratio (OR= 0.798, 95% Confidence Interval (CI)= 0.61 - 1.04)) and having internet access (OR = 0.44, 95% CI= 0.24 - 0.80) were alleviating factors for the anxiety. Whereas, age above than 20 years (OR= 1.30, 95% CI= 0.96 - 1.75), ethnicity Chinese (OR=1.72, 95% CI= 0.95 - 3.1), any other disease (OR=2.0, 95% CI=1.44 - 2.79), decreased family income (OR=1.71, 95% CI=1.34 - 2.17), more time spent on watching COVID-19 related news (OR=1.52, 95% CI=1.17 - 1.97), and infected relative or friends (OR=1.62, 95% CI=1.06 - 2.50) were risk factors for anxiety among students. We suggest that the government of Malaysia should monitor the mental health of the universities’ students more closely and universities should open online mental health support clinics to avoid the adverse impacts of the anxiety disorder.

Introduction: COVID-19 emerged as a global pandemic and its disastrous effects have been felt all over the world. In India, people faced two phases of lockdown. The Government imposed several restrictions on the residents which increased temporary unemployment for many workers. The pandemic has caused a serious impact on the mental health of the people. This survey was done on the verge of lockdown-2, by using DASS-42 scale questionnaire. The aim of this present study was to access the effect of lockdown-2 on mental wellbeing in the Indian population. Methods: It was a study conducted during the second wave of COVID-19 via an online survey using DASS-42 scale questionnaire in the Google Forms bilingually. The outcome of the questionnaire was the assessment of the degree of depression, anxiety, and stress on Likert scale. Results: 170 individuals participated in this study. All participants experienced stress, anxiety and depression during lockdown. The results revealed that the lockdown affects psychological health of people. There was no association between men and women in terms of the degree of depression, anxiety, and stress on Likert scale. Conclusion: During the second lockdown in India due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the residents suffered from a moderate level of depression, moderate level of stress, and mild level of anxiety. It is also evident that different age groups have experienced a psychological impact of the pandemic. The outbreak of this pandemic indicates the need to pay greater attention to mental health to prevent and diminish the psychological outcomes of the pandemic.

Global data on the perceptions and psychological impact of the Covid-19 pandemic suggests the outbreak and restriction measures have had significant negative welfare effects. However, negative psychological symptoms do not emerge with the same intensity for all countries. In western Libya, citizens live under the dual threat of armed conflict and Covid -19. The situation there, merits investigation of citizens’ sensitivity to the pandemic under a pre-existing crisis. The current research aims to contribute to global data on the beliefs, perceptions and psychological impact of the pandemic. It aims also to extend current understanding by examining how coping strategies namely, perceived coping self-efficacy and perceived social support, moderate the effects of the two crises. Furthermore, it intends to explore the additive effect, if any, the outbreak has on the psychological impact of armed conflict. An online survey targeting people in the region during the first surge in Covid-19 cases was completed by a final sample of 717 respondents. Results show the negative psychological impact of the Covid-19 pandemic is not globally consistent. While citizens of western Libya share the normative belief that their government’s response to the outbreak is insufficient, their support for preventative measures to curb the pandemic diverges negatively from global trends. The ongoing civil war has compounded the already dire social and economic conditions, resulting in Covid-19 having little additive effect on citizens’ psychological wellbeing. Moreover, it was found that citizens do not have adequate personal coping mechanisms to deal with the impact of armed conflict. However, drawing on social capital, in the form of perceived social support, is thought to buffer the impact of conflict, though the socio-political and economic circumstances may limit this. The findings are discussed in relation to strategy implications for the government and the international Covid-19 response in Libya.

The emergence of the coronavirus pandemic has affected the global population in an unprecedented way, which has disrupted livelihoods, as well as social activities including the closure of schools. The effect of the pandemic and the associated lockdown measures amplified the mental status of tertiary institution students in Nigeria, which has not been taken into proper view. To this effect, this study was conducted to assess the extent to which the coronavirus pandemic and lockdown measures impacted the mental health of tertiary university students in Southwestern, Nigeria. A cross-sectional online survey, using the standardized Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) and Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7) depression and anxiety questionnaires were used, and appropriate summary statistics were carried out. In all (122 respondents), more than a third (35.5%) of the respondents had daily uncontrolled worries, 6.7% had suicidal intent, and over a tenth (14.2%) and (13.9%) had depression and anxiety respectively. The psychological impact of the coronavirus pandemic and associated lockdown measures on Nigerian university students is quite significant. Therefore, the mental well-being of Nigerian students should be taken into awareness and prioritized.

SARS-CoV-2 (Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus type 2) is a new beta coronavirus that was identified as the trigger of COVID-19 disease in early 2020. Our study designed to survey the female undergraduate students at a private university in Saudi Arabia to assess the degree of psychological impact during the initial stages of the lockdown. During the first weeks of the outbreak in Saudi Arabia and the government-initiated lockdown, we conducted an online survey with 400 female undergraduate students in Saudi Arabia. The psychological impact was assessed by using the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale (CES-D). Our study shows that over the four weeks students showed clearly a change in the overall mental health and mood of our students.   Received: 24 September 2020 / Accepted: 23 December 2020 / Published: 17 January 2021

In 2020 the Covid-19 pandemic has become a global problem and has an impact on all aspects of life, including education. The learning process in all educational institutions, both formal and non-formal, was affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. One of the educational institutions affected by this pandemic is the Al-Qur'an Education Park (TPQ). The Covid-19 pandemic made the government try to suppress the spread of Covid-19, with that the government issued a policy to all educational institutions to close, then switched to Distance Learning (PJJ) and Learning From Home (BDR). Many of the educational institutions carry out an online learning process (online), but not all levels of society are able to adapt to the online learning process, especially those in rural areas. So this research aims to obtain information about the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the learning process at TPQ. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study method. In this study, 5 respondents were selected, namely TPQ teachers in Kutelintang Village, Blangkejeren District, Gayo Lues Regency. The results of this study obtained information that the learning process at TPQ took place face-to-face, and generally the learning process at TPQ was less effective because there were too many holidays. So that it has an impact on students, teachers and parents. In addition, TPQ also played an important role in disseminating the Covid-19 pandemic to students.

The continuity of learning programs during the COVID-19 pandemic found educational institutions, especially Madrasah Ibtidaiyyah (MI) temporarily closed the learning process in schools. To prevent the spread of COVID-19 that is currently engulfing Indonesia. Lack of preparation, readiness and learning strategies have a psychological impact on teachers and students. Declining quality of skills, lack of supporting facilities and infrastructure. Learning from home (online) is an effort by the government program to ensure the continuity of learning in the pandemic period. The research method uses participatory action research (PAR), which focuses on understanding social phenomena that occur in the community and mentoring efforts on the problems faced. The assistance effort is to help the children of MI Sulursewu, Ngawi in participating in online learning related to; 1). Preparation of activities, 2). Counselling participants offline method, 3). Offline activities method. Results of the study show that the mentoring activities following the target of achievement; first, the activity can be carried out following the schedule that has been set. Second, students are always on time for the online learning hours that have been set. Offline methods show that efforts can help ease the burden on parents, but can also make it easier for students to receive subject matter.

This research paper is the part of Research Project entitled “Impact of Elected Women Representatives in the Life and Livelihood of the Women in Rural Areas: With Special Reference to Tiruvannamalai District, Tamil Nadu” funded by University of Madras under UGC-UPE Scheme.The 73rd and 74th amendments of the Constitution of India were made by the government to strengthen the position of women and to create a local-level legal foundation for direct democracy for women in both rural and urban areas. The representation for women in local bodies through reservation policies amendment in Constitution of India has stimulated the political participation of women in rural areas. However, when it’s comes to the argument of whether the women reservation in Panchayati Raj helps or benefits to the life and livelihood development of women as a group? The answer is hypothetical because the studies related to the impact of women representatives of Panchayati Raj in the life and livelihood development of women was very less. Therefore, to fill the gap in existing literature, the present study was conducted among the rural women of Tiruvannamalai district to assess the impact of elected women representatives in the physical and financial and business development of the women in rural areas. The findings revealed that during the last five years because of the women representation in their village Panjayati Raj, the Physical Asset of the rural women were increased or developed moderately (55.8%) and Highly (23.4%) and the Financial and Business Asset of the rural women were increased or developed moderately (60.4%) and Highly (18.7%).
