“Osseointegration” as formulated by Alberktson is crucial for implant survival and success. Osseointegration is a measure of implant stability. Measuring implant stability helps to arrive at decisions as to loading of an implant, allows choice of protocol on a patient to patient basis and provides better case documentation. A successful implant reflects good bone to implant contact and is determined by implant stability both primary and secondary. Implant stability is achieved at two different stages – primary (immediately after implant placement) and secondary (3-4 months after implant placement). Implant stability has been confirmed to affect the process of osseointegration and therefore is essential to understand the methods to measure implant stability and factors influencing. Various methods are developed to assess implant stability which suggests the prognosis of an implant.

Tuberculosis (TB) is a major public health problem of increasing proportions in Bangladesh for last several decades. A total of 350,641 cases were reported in Bangladesh in 2006 representing an incidence of 225 per 100,000 population for that year. Many hematological derangements such as anaemia, leukocytosis or pancytopenia can occur in association with TB. However isolated thrombocytopenia is rare and most commonly occur via a non immune mechanism in the setting of pancytopenia that develop secondary to granulomatous infiltration of the bone marrow.  However immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) in a patient with TB is exceedingly a rare event. Here we report a case of ITP associated with TB of knee joint in whom thrombocytopenia and TB were successfully treated. A casual association between joint TB and ITP is extraordinarily rare and to our knowledge this is the first such case documentation in Bangladesh, although a few case reports citing association of TB and ITP are found in literature.   doi:10.3329/jom.v10i1.2001 J Medicine 2009; 10: 28-30

Objective:To provide a retrospective case analyses of Bill Henderson Protocol adherence, a dietary cancer treatment regimen. Design. Case study analysis based on the National Cancer Institute’s Best Case Series approach. Subjects. Using Mr Henderson’s listserv (N = 31 000), members meeting certain criteria were invited to submit case documentation (diagnostic, treatment, outcome information). Ninety-two people responded. Results:Two people met the Best Case criteria. Both used conventional treatment initially (surgery, radiation, chemotherapy), but later turned exclusively to the Bill Henderson Protocol. Each case perceived benefit. One person eventually passed away. The second has returned to full health. Conclusions:The 2 cases provide a preliminary, detailed description of Bill Henderson Protocol adherence. They do not provide clear evidence of the protocol’s effectiveness but do suggest further research be undertaken to assess the extent to which the Bill Henderson Protocol is followed in real-world settings, including consideration of adherence, side effects, and outcomes.

Risk assessment is a cornerstone of domestic violence prevention and intervention. From the front-line responders' perspective, risk assessment constitutes a process that starts from identifying the factors increasing the likelihood of violence and then continues to plan safety measures to manage the sources of risks and prevent the recurrence of violence. To address some of the shortcomings related to the risk assessment of domestic violence, the IMPRODOVA project developed a Risk Assessment Integration Module, RAIMO. The overall purpose of RAIMO is to bridge the gaps between different risk assessment tools and professional perspectives and thereby to generate a shared understanding of risk assessment in multiprofessional and cooperative contexts. While RAIMO can be utilised in learning, teaching and as a databank, in this chapter, we focus on the key aspects and findings in risk assessment research. The chapter also aims to equip front-line responders with applicable information to revise or remodel the existing risk assessment procedures, networks, and tools.

Digital video technologies are new and powerful tools with wide applications in orthopedic. Already integral to several common medical devices, digital images can be used for case documentation and presentation as well for diagnostic and surgical patient care information. Digital technologies allow easy manipulation of photographic, video and graphic materials in ways that were impossible with conventional techniques. Educational presentation has been transformed by use of computers and digital projectors. Understanding the basic foundations of digital imaging technology is important for effectively creating digital images, videos and presentations. In this review, we are going to discuss some of the issues that are raised by digital imaging in orthopedics, digital image processing, as well as, we are giving some recommendations for good quality of pre-, post- and intra-operative photographs in clinical use.

Threats are a common feature of detention and interrogation settings and have long been regarded as a routine procedure. Despite their prevalence and propensity to amount to ill-treatment and torture, threats have not been systematically and thoroughly analysed in case documentation processes. Given a lack of understanding, threats have unduly been considered a form of “torture-lite” at best by some juridical actors. However, its effect as an instrument of coercion can be devastating – engendering states of fear and anxiety and forcing its subject to act against their will. There is an important lack of theoretical reflection on what threats are, what types exist and how they impact the survivor. In this editorial, we aim to partly fill this gap from a medical and psychological perspective, providing a framework of understanding that will hopefully improve conceptual and practical assessment, documentation and qualification.
