The present study investigates market-wide herding of stock market, industry indices of Pakistan, China and USA, A-cross border herding of Pakistan stock market with Chinese stock market and USA stock market. With Cross-Sectional-Absolute-Deviation, to check whether geographical distance matters to influence the stock markets or not and USA is its major influential, cannot be ignored. Market-wide herding in Pakistan is found only during 2004 and 2008 and A-cross border herding for Pakistan is only found from the USA which support asset pricing model and market efficiency. Pakistan market do not herd around China, this negates geographical distance matters, and influence in determining investor behaviour in stock markets. It is revealed, Pakistan stock market does not observe as much herding behaviour in stock investment as other markets (USA and China), so it can be said that Pakistan stock exchange index which is representative of Pakistan Stock market is efficiently operating in contest of Herding.

Purpose The existing literature about return reversal effect in Chinese stock markets is inconclusive and controversial. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to investigate the presence of return reversal effect in the Shanghai A stock market. Design/methodology/approach The authors used the late-stage contrarian strategy of Malin and Bornholt (2013) for the period March 2011‒March 2016. Findings The results show that there is a long-term return reversal effect in the Shanghai A stock market for the period March 2011‒March 2016. When portfolios are in the formation period (P=24 months), the excess returns are significant in the holding period, Q=6, 9, 12, 24 months. Further, there is also a significant short-term momentum effect in the Shanghai A stock market. For the robustness check, a new reversal factor was introduced into the Fama‒French three-factor model. Results show that portfolios have a smaller size and have lower book-to-market ratios; the return reversal factor explains a portion of the abnormal returns and coefficient of the reversal effect is significant. Research limitations/implications The authors caution readers from generalizing the findings of this study, as the sample is small and the focus is only on A stocks listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange. Originality/value The present research expands the current literature by providing a comprehensive information about the presence of the long-term and short-term return reversal effects in Shanghai A stock market. Furthermore, the Chinese stock markets have distinctive features in comparison to the developed stock markets in terms of government control, institutional structure, liquidity, cultural background, etc. Such differences affect the pattern in stock returns compared with those observed in developed stock markets. Contrary to previous studies, the present study also accounts for robustness checks. Finally, it also evaluates the possible reasons for the return reversal effect in the Shanghai market.

This article contributed insight into the cross-border role of oil on Asia’s largest stock markets. The research conducted using VAR, GARCH_BEKK (1,1), and related tests such as stationarity, correlation, and causality tests in the analysis. The results obtained suggest that the time series of data ensure conditions for analysis. Asian stock prices are inversely related to oil prices in a correlation. At the same time, in considered stock markets, the Korean stock market and world oil prices appear to have a causal relationship with each other. Moreover, the tests of profitability and volatility in oil prices also indicate a link with the Korean stock market during the research period.

This study aims to examine the momentum effect presence in selected stocks of Pakistan stock market using data from Jan 2007 to Dec 2016. This study constructed the strategies includes docile, equal weighted and full rebalancing techniques. Data was extracted from the PSX – 100 index ranging from 2007 to 2016. STATA coding ASM software was used for calculating momentum portfolios, finally top 25 stocks were considered as a winner stocks and bottom 25 stocks were taken as a loser stocks. In conclusion, the results of the study found a strong momentum effect in Pakistan stock exchange PSX 100- index. As by results it has been observed that a substantial profit can earn by the investors or brokers in constructing a portfolio with a short formation period of three months and hold for 3, 6 and 12 months. There is hardly a study is present on the same topic on Pakistan Stock Exchange as preceding studies were only conducted on individual stock markets before merger of stock markets in Pakistan while this study leads the explanation of momentum phenomenon in new dimension i.e. Pakistan Stock Exchange. This paper reports the statistics of extreme values and positions of extreme events in Chinese stock markets. An extreme event is defined as the event exceeding a certain threshold of normalized logarithmic return. Extreme values follow a piecewise function or a power law distribution determined by the threshold due to a crossover. Extreme positions are studied by return intervals of extreme events, and it is found that return intervals yield a stretched exponential function. According to correlation analysis, extreme values and return intervals are weakly correlated and the correlation decreases with increasing threshold. No long-term cross-correlation exists by using the detrended cross-correlation analysis (DCCA) method. We successfully introduce a modification specific to the correlation and derive the joint cumulative distribution of extreme values and return intervals at 95% confidence level.
