Organizations form different degrees of social and economic exchange relationships with their employees. In this study, we unpack employee responses to organizational-level mechanisms of executive leadership style, organizational culture, and employment approaches by examining the mediating role of employees' perceptions of social and economic exchange relationships. The results of hierarchical linear modeling analyses show that social exchanges partially mediate the influence of the CEO's transformational leadership, an integrative organizational culture, and the mutual investment employment approach on affective commitment and task performance but not on organizational citizenship behavior. Economic exchanges partially mediate the influence of a hierarchical culture on all three employee outcomes and mediate the influence of the quasi-spot contract employment approach on commitment and organizational citizenship behavior but not on task performance. These results suggest the need for further understanding of the role of social and economic exchanges in organizational research.

The main purpose of this study is to find out relationship between organizational citizenship behavior and task performance in banking industries in Indonesia. Organizational citizenship behavior is composed of four components: altruism, civic virtue, and sportsmanship. To analyzed results mean, standard deviation, and correlation analysis techniques are used. 636 questionnaires were received and response rate 95 percent. Results prove that organizational citizenship behaviors do not have positive relationship with task performance.

PurposeThis study examines the effect of knowledge workers' (k-workers') leader-member exchange (LMX) on task performance and the mediation effect of affective commitment and organizational citizenship behavior (OCB) in China.Design/methodology/approachIn this study, 384 qualified questionnaires will be collected from k-workers in China by using a self-administered survey, and the partial least square structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) technique was employed for data analysis.FindingsThis finding showed that LMX has positive relationship on affective commitment, organizational citizenship behavior and task performance. The result also confirmed the mediation effect of organizational citizenship behavior on the relationship between LMX and task performance.Originality/valueThis research provide some implement to manage, motivate and inspire the k-workers and finally promote the organizational performance.

Employees can affect the sustainability of organizations, yet the different effects of employee organizational citizenship behavior motives on employee thriving at work, as elements of organization sustainability, are not clear. Based on self-determination theory and conservation of resource theory, this study examined whether organizational concern motives and impression management motives behind employees’ organizational citizenship behaviors are differently associated with their citizenship fatigue and their subsequent thriving at work, and whether task performance moderates these relationships. Results from a multi-wave and multisource study using a sample of 349 employees show that organizational concern motives had a positive indirect effect on thriving at work through reducing employees’ citizenship fatigue, while impression management motives will undermine thriving at work through inducing citizenship fatigue. This study further found that task performance strengthened the positive relationship between impression management motives and citizenship fatigue. The theoretical and practical implications of these findings are discussed.

The study aims to find out and analyze the relationship between employee engagement, organizational culture, organizational citizenship behavior (OCB), and employee performance. The author administered 224 participants employee engagement scale, organizational culture scale, OCB scale, and employee performance scale in BPJS Ketenagakerjaan East Java area. The data is analyzed by path analysis method in SPSS program. The result indicated that employee engagement and organizational culture affects positive significantly on OCB. Employee engagement, organizational culture and OCB also affects positive significantly on employee performance.

Aiming to reduce the difficulty of managing and motivating knowledge workers (k-workers), and promote the psychological well-being of them in Chinese hospitals, this study examines how k-workers’ leader–member exchange (LMX) influences their task performance and the mediation effect of organizational citizenship behavior (OCB). Through a self-administered survey, valid questionnaires were collected from 384 k-workers in Chinese hospitals, and partial least squares structural equation modeling was employed for data analysis. The findings show that LMX is positively related to OCB and task performance, and that OCB mediates the relationship between LMX and task performance. This research has theoretical implications and also provides practical suggestions on how to manage, motivate, and inspire k-workers, and promote the psychological well-being of them, and finally enhance the organizational performance in Chinese hospitals.
