Nickel-based single crystal superalloys have been widely used in modern aircraft, which is related to its high temperature mechanical strength and creep properties. And the initial cubic γ′ precipitates start to coarsen directionally during high temperature creep, which results in the degradation of the mechanical properties, especially the creep properties. Therefore, it is essential to figure out the mechanism of directional coarsening during the period of high temperature creep. In this article, a broad review of rafting mechanism of nickel-based single crystal superalloys is provided. The major work of this critical review is to introduce several experiments and numerical simulations which are used to analyze the evolution of rafting. For three different numerical simulations, their performance, advantage and disadvantage are discussed in detail. Through methods above, the effect on creep properties is summarized.

GH3230 is a new type of superalloy,it is the first study about it. This paper studied the high temperature mechanical properties of the GH3230 base metal and argon-arc welding joints by high temperature tensile test,high temperature creep test and SEM analyses. The results showed thatthe ultimate tensile strength of GH3230 argon-arc welding joints is about 85.6% of that of base metal under the same conditions. In the high temperature creep test, GH3230 argon-arc welding joints had a longer creep life than that of base metal. Both GH3230 base metal and argon-arc welding joints showed a ductile fracture. High temperature tensile fracture is cavities fracture and high temperature creep fracture is intergranular fracture. The deformation of GH3230 argon-arc welding joints is much more uniformited and smaller than that of base material, and GH3230 argon-arc welding joints has less cracks.

ABSTRACTPrevious work has shown that ternary Ti-Al-Si alloys with hypoeutectic and eutectic microstructures containing the intermetallic phases Ti3 (Al,Si) and Ti5 (Si,Al)3 have promising high temperature mechanical properties [1]. In the present investigation alloying additions of Niobium have been made to selected Ti-Al-Si alloys based on hypoeutectic compositions and the effects of Niobium on the microstructure and mechanical properties have been studied. The high temperature creep and oxidation behaviour of such alloys appears to be superior to that of currently available Ti3Al-based alloys.

ABSTRACTStructural integrity plays an important role in any industrial activity, due to its capability of assessing complex systems against sudden and unpredicted failures. The work here presented investigates an unexpected new mechanism occurring in structures subjected to monotonic and cyclic loading at high temperature creep condition. An unexpected accumulation of plastic strain is observed to occur, within the high-temperature creep dwell. This phenomenon has been observed during several full inelastic finite element analyses. In order to understand which parameters make possible such behaviour, an extensive numerical study has been undertaken on two different notched bars. The notched bar has been selected due to its capability of representing a multiaxial stress state, which is a practical situation in real components. Two numerical examples consisting of an axisymmetric v-notch bar and a semi-circular notched bar are considered, in order to investigate different notches severity. Two material models have been considered for the plastic response, which is modelled by both Elastic-Perfectly Plastic and Armstrong-Frederick kinematic hardening material models. The high-temperature creep behaviour is introduced using the time hardening law. To study the problem several results are presented, as the effect of the material model on the plastic strain accumulation, the effect of the notch severity and the mesh element type and sensitivity. All the findings further confirm that the phenomenon observed is not an artefact but a real mechanism, which needs to be considered when assessing off-design condition. Moreover, it might be extremely dangerous if the cyclic loading condition occurs at such a high loading level.
