The paper considers the impact of the increase in retirement age on labor supply and economic growth. Combining own estimates of labor participation and demographic projections by the Rosstat, the authors predict marked fall in the labor force (by 5.6 million persons over 2016-2030). Labor demand is also going down but to a lesser degree. If vigorous measures are not implemented, the labor force shortage will reach 6% of the labor force by the period end, thus restraining economic growth. Even rapid and ambitious increase in the retirement age (by 1 year each year to 65 years for both men and women) can only partially mitigate the adverse consequences of demographic trends.

With the coming rush of population aging and the termination of the demographic dividend, the question on the extension of the legal retirement age is becoming a hot topic in the community. This paper analyzes factors affecting retirement age,such as demographic dividend, life expectancy, years of education per capita, supply and demand situation in labor market. From these factors, reasonable quantitative reference standards can be introduced.

The article deals with issues related to the change in the situation on the labor market in connection with the new pension reform. The mechanism of the impact of the conditions and standards of pensions on the state of the labor market is revealed. Special attention is paid to increasing tension in the labor market due to the increase in the retirement age. The procedure for raising the retirement age is revealed, categories of workers are identified that will not be affected by raising the retirement age or who are entitled to receive an old-age insurance pension of a higher retirement age. Consideration is given to aspects related to changes in the conditions and procedure for granting unemployment benefits, including new conditions for granting benefits to persons in pre-retirement age. Particular attention is paid to the disclosure of the factors that determine the possibility of raising the retirement age, and the justification of measures that contribute to leveling the negative effects of the increase.

We survey a representative sample of US households to study how exposure to the COVID-19 stock market crash affects expectations and planned behavior. Wealth shocks are associated with upward adjustments of expectations about retirement age, desired working hours, and household debt, but have only small effects on expected spending. We provide correlational and experimental evidence that beliefs about the duration of the stock market recovery shape households’ expectations about their own wealth and their planned investment decisions and labor market activity. Our findings shed light on the implications of household exposure to stock market crashes for expectation formation.

The article considers the analysis of the main problems associated with retraining and employment of people of pre-retirement age. The organization of these processes is possible only with the development of a set of educational retraining programs and effective psychological support. Changes in the sphere of employment of older people entail not only the reform of the labor market of young professionals, but also the whole system of geront education, which should include professional, health, cognitive, psychological and personnel components. The author of the article talks about the need for a transitional period for the implementation of the Pension Reform, outlines the main structures requiring a reorientation of their work directions so that Russians, regardless of age, feel “protected” in the labor market.

The importance of lifelong learning is recognized by the governments of many countries, especially when a nation is aging. The conditions created by the state for their social, creative and professional self-realization, as well as maintaining their active longevity, allow citizens of retirement and pre-retirement age to remain socially active, competitive in the labor market. This article reveals the relevance of training persons of pre-retirement age in programs of additional professional training in the field of hospitality. Object: To study the impact of demographic trends on the labor market in the context of the labor activity of the older generation in Kazakhstan and to conduct a comparative analysis of the employment indicators of older people. Methods: methods of system, dynamic and structural analysis, and correlation analysis. Findings: The results of the analysis allow us to conclude that the aging process of the population actualizes the labor activity of the older population, and determines the formation of support for stimulating the employment of older people. Conclusions: Thus, the role of the older generation in the labor market is being scaled, and therefore it is necessary to consider labor activity in retirement age as an element of the formation of the lifestyle of the older generation, where the role of labor as a factor of active longevity is given a special place. The creation of working conditions necessary for the use of working capacity is a long-term goal in ensuring active longevity and meeting the needs of older people in socially significant activities

Abstract Using high-frequency Italian administrative data, the author studies the heterogeneous effects of a reform raising the normal retirement age (NRA) from 60 years to 65 years for private-sector male employees. The analysis, based on a difference-in-differences (DD) method, shows that the NRA raise reduces pension benefit claims but does not lead to a one-to-one increase in the employment rate since workers also apply for more disability and unemployment benefits. Moreover, most of them simply retire without any benefit. The extent of the effects varies substantially across socio-economic groups, as individuals with poorer health, with lower occupational grades and lower pay levels are the most constrained by the reform, experiencing the highest delay in pension claims, increase in employment, and inactivity. All in all, this paper shows that raising the NRA could have unintended effects as it affects more negatively the most vulnerable in the labor market.
