SYNOPSISPrior literature has firmly established the relationship between IT capability and firm performance. In this paper, we extend the research in this field and investigate (1) whether IT capability contributes to management forecast accuracy, and (2) whether IT capability improves the informativeness of management forecasts and enhances the extent to which analysts incorporate management forecasts in their revisions. Using firms listed on InformationWeek 500 as our high IT capability group, we empirically demonstrate that firms with high IT capability are able to increase management forecast accuracy, and that analysts incorporate more information from management forecasts in their revisions if the firm has high IT capability.

Software testing is becoming a critical component of software development, especially because of the proliferation of complex, interconnected, and real-time business applications. As a result, information technology (IT) managers are struggling with pragmatic governance mechanisms for integrating testing with development. Governance issues pertaining to how software testing is organized at strategic, tactical, and operational levels, however, have not received adequate attention in the literature. This study explores the impact of three specific governance mechanisms, including the existence of a distinct corporate testing unit, developers and testers reporting to different executives, and the existence of one-to-one matching between developers and testers, on the organizational integration of testing with development. A national survey of 196 software development and testing professionals was undertaken to investigate the impact of these governance variables on a set of dependent variables comprising organizational, group, and individual outcomes. The results indicate that these governance mechanisms have significant impacts and need to be considered for successful integration of development and testing.

Purpose In the contemporary business environment, companies must constantly consider methods to enhance their competitive advantage and create value for their customers. The purpose of this paper is to develop a research model based on a business ecosystem view. Within a business ecosystem, the authors identified the key factors of co-development and the manner in which these factors affect a company’s innovation performance. Design/methodology/approach The theoretical hypotheses are confirmed by partial least squares analysis of survey responses collected from information and communication technology (ICT) and hotel industries in Taiwan. Findings In both industries, the results suggest that a firm’s co-development within its own ecosystem has positive effects on innovation performance. For companies in the ICT industry, collaborative networks and partner selection have significant impacts on the firms’ co-development, but their information technology (IT) capability does not; in contrast, in the hotel industry, partner selection and IT capability have significant impacts on firm co-development, but their collaborative network does not. Originality/value This study contributes to the literature of business ecosystem and co-development by offering a co-development model. As both conceptual and empirical research on this topic is still underdeveloped, this study provides fresh insights into collaboration management and offers significant theoretical and managerial implications from a business ecosystem perspective.

Investment Information Technology (IT) has always been a primary objective of the business which is expected to provide value to businesses through its role as a competitive advantage and the creation of innovation. However, it is ot easy to measure how much value is successfully created, or determine whether the IT strategy is aligned with business strategy, or find out if the IT organization has a strategy that focuses on creating business value. Innovation Value of Institute (IVI) introduces a new concept known as the IT Capability Maturity Framework (IT-CMF) which can help IT organizations to align the business vision with the IT vision so that IT strategy could focus on value creation . the IT-CMF implementation which begins with the assessment of the maturity of IT organization can provide an overall picture, so that organization can prioritize the development of appropriate IT investments to support the value creation for the overall business.

Small software companies make for the majority of software companies around the world, but their software development processes are often not as clearly defined and structured as in their larger counterparts. Especially the test process is often the most neglected part of the software process. This contribution analyses the software testing process in a small South African IT company, here called X, to determine the problems that currently cause it to deliver software fraught with too many defects. The findings of a survey conducted with all software developers in company X are discussed, and several typical problems are identified. We also discuss two prevalent test process improvement models that can be used to reason about the possibilities of process improvement. Solutions to those (or similar) problems often already exist, but a major part of the problem addressed in this contribution is the unawareness, or unfamiliarity, of many small industrial software developers and IT managers as far as the scientific literature on software science and engineering, and especially in our case: software testing, is concerned.
