<p>While there is growing consensus that the 'war on drugs' has failed to decrease drug consumption in the Global North, we know much less about how drug production has impacted communities of the Global South. This is particularly true for the cultivation of coca leaf in Colombia, which is increasingly planted in isolated rural areas such as national parks and in the collectively titled lands of ethnic communities (indigenous and Afro-descendant) where it is both difficult to detect and to eradicate. This article explains how Afro-descendant communities in Colombia have resisted both coca cultivation and a controversial war on drugs strategy to eliminate coca –aerial eradication –  through a framework of ecological difference. It also explores why political ecologists can be important allies in this struggle and in the greater context of socio<em>-</em>environmental justice for rural communities in the Global South.  <strong></strong></p><p><strong>Key Words:</strong> rural, ethnic, difference, war, coca, Colombia</p>

The article presents the characteristics of bilingualism according to modern linguistic theories as well as the approaches of elaboration and implementation of bilingual educational programs in Europe and the United States. Cultural and educational activities of Ukrainian district school council of Pokuttiain the periodof the West Ukrainian People’s Republic is described in the article; the peculiarities of the legislative ensuring of the process of the national school development are studied; the relations of the Ukrainians with other ethnic communities in the national and cultural sphere are highlighted. In the research the author came to the conclusion confirming that residents of Pokuttia actively took part in the reformation of the national and cultural sphere following the norms of the official legislation of The West Ukrainian People’s Republic; the work of the district school councils was various – from the organization the teachers’ meetings, conferences to the convocations of preparatory courses for pupils, management of the teaching process in district schools; in spite of the declaring international peace, concord and partnership by the authority of The West Ukrainian People’s Republic there were cultural and educational processes in the form of the Ukrainian-Polish confrontation and intentions of the Ukrainian-Jewish dialogue in Pokuttia. Based on the experiences of a Koreatown scholar, the executive director of a Koreatown nonprofit, and a longtime resident student, the article advocates for greater attention to the complex and dynamic power structures of ethnic enclaves in community-academic partnerships. We discuss the changing landscapes of Koreatown as the global nexus of the Pacific Rim economy, the city of Los Angeles’s urban redevelopment plans, and growing diversity and inequality. Programs that aim to engage effectively with ethnic communities must reassess how knowledge is produced and conveyed, how we structure partnerships within stratified communities, and how to grow from issue-based partnerships to broader communities of interest.

Topchanchi Wild Life Sanctuary, Dhanbad is less studied and investigated, as this area is far from town. Ethnic and non-ethnic communities of this area are using medicinal plant for the treatment of many ailments. An ethnomedicinal plant survey was conducted among vaidyas of this area. A list of plants was prepared which they use for skin diseases. A total of 12 plants of various species were documented in curing various types of skin diseases like eczema, cellulites, swellings and sores.
