The issues of environmental impact reduction became a significant factor in the decision-making process for the development of organizations in the EU. Systematic environmental management is an effective way of solving environmental problems arising in organizations’ activities. Creating an effective environmental audit system is an essential step in ensuring the regulatory response to the extensive level of environmental pollution. To identify the role of environmental audit in the growth of environmental innovation activity of the country, a number of panel multiple regression dependencies were constructed. The survey database includes data for 28 countries of the European Union for the period 2010-2017. Factor variables of the study were the absolute number of environmental audit organizations, their ratio to the total number of enterprises, and the number of environmental audit and management sites. The resulting variables were the value of the index of eco-innovation of countries and its components. The conducted analysis showed that in the European Union countries, an environmental audit is an effective tool for ensuring their eco-innovative development. It is revealed that the biggest positive effect of the growth of the number of environmental audit organizations is manifested in the growth of the scope of eco-innovation activities and the volume of its financing, as well as the increase of the level of environmental responsibility of the organizations. On the other hand, the increase in the density of environmental audit organizations in relation to the number of enterprises is a factor hampering the country's environmental innovation. Research for different groups of countries proves that increasing the level of eco-innovation progress of states leads to an increase in the positive effects of the functioning of the environmental audit system for further eco-innovative development. At the same time, the maximum level of impact of environmental audit on the intensity of eco-innovation activity is observed for countries with an average level of progress. Thus, the necessity of the development of an environmental audit in the formulation of Ukraine's environmental policy was proved. Keywords: environmental audit, environmental reporting, environmental management, eco-innovation activities, environment.

Depopulation is a problem felt in many regions of the European Union, mainly affecting inland and rural areas. In many cases, these areas are characterized by economic, social, and infrastructural marginalization. Their rehabilitation is desirable in view of a better balance of social and infrastructural management. This said, there are no proven solutions for depopulation that can be applied to all territories in the same way. On the contrary, if we examine progress in the fields of ITC and digitization, we can gather interesting suggestions on how to deal with this issue. This essay intends to analyze these aspects and to examine ways to strengthen, through programs and instruments of the sharing economy, the competitiveness and potential attraction of geographical areas considered marginal and that risk demographic collapse.

This study aims to develop a better understanding of what drives small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to engage in environmental practices in isolated rural areas. Despite a growing literature on environmental behavior in different contexts, the green activities of SMEs in rural areas remains underexposed. This neglect is remarkable, and deserves attention given the serious depopulation problems they have to face, and the economic and social challenges that lie ahead. Using unique data from 141 SMEs in one of the most sparsely populated regions in the European Union, we study the influence of territorial relations on firms’ environmental conduct. Our results suggest that different territorial factors have some impact on the adoption of environmental practices. We report evidence indicative of the role of these factors in shaping environmental decisions. Finally, we offer suggestions for future research that could further develop our understanding of environmental management decisions in rural and underpopulated areas.

The article deals with Ukraine’s Euro-Atlantic geopolitical vector in a modern geopolitical situation. The authors argue that a link between national interests and geopolitical vector of a country as a civilizational subject determines its globalization strategy. The Euro-Atlantic geopolitical vector of Ukraine provides for geographical, geopolitical, civilizational interaction with the European and Euro-Atlantic community on the basis of partnership and national interests. The main criterion for the constructiveness of Ukraine’s Euro-Atlantic vector is the strengthening and development of our country’s position as an international actor. The authors distinguish the two branches of Western civilization in the modern world: Euro- Atlantic and Eurasian. Ukraine lies on the border between the Euro-Atlantic and Eurasian branches of Western civilization. Ukraine’s ability to be a subject of history, have its own civilizational project and implement it depends on the ability to build productive relationships with these two branches. At the same time, there is a distinct historical timeliness of integration with the Euro-Atlantic civilizational community for the implementation of objectives and consolidation of values of Ukraine’s civilizational project, which requires an innovative development. Over the last hundred years, Ukraine has been predominantly engaged in the Eurasian civilizational community. To strengthen its position as an international actor, Ukraine has to overcome such asymmetry. That is why Ukraine’s Euro-Atlantic vector is not limited to the membership in the European Union or NATO. It is a much more complex process of mental and civilizational transformation, which becomes a condition for ensuring the real sovereignty. Keywords: Euro-Atlantic vector of Ukraine, Western civilization, national interests, subject of history.

The article gives a rationale for rebuilding the country’s innovation capacity as a key task of the current economic policy of the state, since it is the use of innovations that is extremely important for successful business activity and for obtaining competitive advantages in the world market. The subject matter of the study is the role of banking system, whose lending activity can serve as a powerful source for funding innovation, which, in turn, is seen as a key driver for investment and economic growth. The purpose of the research paper is to substantiate the appropriate theoretical and methodological approaches to understanding the role of the banking system within the framework of stimulating innovative development of the economy. The article critically analyzes the current state of innovation activity in Ukraine and systematizes the main factors restraining the innovative development of the economy. Particular attention is paid to the lack of funding for innovation, the ineffective structure of the national economy, and insufficient state financial support. The lack of an adequate level of funding for innovation activities of enterprises is identified as one of the main constraints on the introduction of innovations and enhancement of innovation potential. It is stressed that the limited amount of own funds and the objective difficulties in attracting foreign financial resources of investors are usually the main reasons for the low degree of innovation activity of enterprises in Ukraine. It is argued that it is the banking system that can act as the main institutional element of the innovation infrastructure, which has the proper organizational, technological and financial potential, sufficient for accumulation and redistribution of those investment resources that are necessary for activating the innovation process in the national economy. The advantages of banks in comparison with other participants of the financial market are determined, which determines the key role of the banking system in the innovative development of the economy. The author articulates a set of organizational, institutional and economic measures at the macro- and micro-levels which can contribute to incorporating the banking system into the framework of stimulating innovation processes.

The article presents the results of research on innovation activity based on the analysis of the directions of innovative development of Kazakhstan and suggests a set of measures, the implementation of which will allow building a connected system of measures for the formation of an innovative ecosystem. The main focus is given to improving the efficiency of innovation activities based on an institutional approach, which is aimed at the formation of a stable system of relationships between participants in the innovation cycle, each of which is individually interested in improving competitiveness based on the use of innovations. The formation of an innovation ecosystem also includes the development of two innovation clusters as the basis for the formation of a knowledge-based economy. Based on the analysis provided, we concluded that the organization of innovative infrastructure did not provide the required pace of innovative development of Kazakhstan for a number of reasons. To date, the Republic has successfully implemented state programs that aim to create conditions for the transition to the fourth industrial revolution. The focus on innovative development remains important and mandatory for achieving the goals set out in the program documents.
