The transfer of spin angular momentum from a spin polarized current provides an efficient way of reversing the magnetization direction of the free layer of the magnetic tunnel junction (MTJ), and while faster reversal will reduce the switching energy, this in turn will lead to low power consumption. In this work, we propose a design where a spin torque oscillator (STO) is integrated with a conventional magnetic tunnel junction (MTJ) which will assist in the ultrafast reversal of the magnetization of the free layer of the MTJ. The structure formed (MTJ stacked with STO), will have the free layer of the MTJ sandwiched between two spin polarizer layers, one with a fixed magnetization direction perpendicular to film plane (main static polarizer) and the other with an oscillatory magnetization (dynamic polarizer). The static polarizer is the fixed layer of the MTJ itself and the dynamic polarizer is the free layer of the STO.

We demonstrate that a magnetic tunnel structure irradiated by microwaves can generate a significant voltage signal due to the rectification effect. The measurements were carried out using current-in-plane geometry with a current flowing parallel to the interfaces in the structure. A value of the microwave-induced voltage strongly depends on a bias current and can be driven by a magnetic field. The rectification effect is discussed both in classical terms of nonlinearity of the current-voltage characteristic and using a mechanism that involves the interplay between the spin-polarized current and magnetization dynamics in the magnetic tunnel structure.

Magnetization dynamics in a three-layered nanopillar Co/Cu/Co structure with one fixed and one free layer driven by external magnetic field and spin-polarized electric current was investigated using methods of the theory of bifurcations. Mathematical model is based on the Landau-Lifshits-Gilbert equation with the current term in the Sloncžewski–Berger form. Orientation of applied magnetic field was considered to be parallel to the anisotropy axis. Physical model included the magnetocrystalline anisotropy field and the demagnetizing field. Because of small size of the structure, the space dependence of magnetization, as usually, was not taken into account. The resulting system of equations has the form of the nonlinear dynamical system with the polynomial right sides. Mathematical simulation of magnetization dynamics for several typical values of field and current was performed. The numerical experiments revealed the features of switching process in more detail and permitted to find new regimes of magnetization dynamics, such as incomplete and accidental switching.
