A mathematical equation of water drive physical simulation of pressure-sensitive fractured reservoirs was established based on previous research results. In this study, the similarity criteria of water drive physical simulation of pressure-sensitive fractured reservoirs were derived according to the similarity theory. First of all, based on the three-dimensional differential equation of rock mechanics, a dimensionless analysis was conducted to determine the similarity relationship between the displacement of oil by water of pressure-sensitive fractured reservoirs, the similarity criterion was obtained, and the similarity criteria were formed. Secondly, according to the similarity criterion, the similar relationship between the stress-strain fields of the real object and the simulated object was worked out. Thirdly, the finite element software COMSOL Multiphysics was applied to model and calculate the multifield coupling process in the percolation of pressure-sensitive fractured reservoirs, verifying the correctness of the established similarity criteria and similarity relationship. The verifying results shows that the similarity between the physical model and the actual model can be realized by magnifying the geometric size N times in a certain direction and adjusting the load and boundary conditions according to the similarity principle, which can be used for the design of the pressure-sensitive fractured reservoir simulation model for a physical indoor test.

Chinese enterprise personnel are faced with the problem of intercultural adaptation. Based on Black's theory of "three-dimensional" model of intercultural adaptation, this paper proposes a "four-dimensional" model of intercultural adaptation, namely, life adaptation, work adaptation, interpersonal adaptation and Chinese image adaptation. The research method of semi-structured in-depth interview is used to interview 23 Chinese people from one Chinese enterprise in Saudi Arabia, who have worked there for at least one year. We get findings as follows: (1) Life adaptation: maladjustment is mainly reflected in religious restriction. Especially, religious regulations and taboos make the life of Chinese enterprise personnel restricted. However, there are also many aspects of adaptation, such as Saudi cuisine, living environment and leisure life, which bring the satisfaction of life demands to Chinese enterprise personnel. (2) Work adaptation: foreign companies must employ a certain proportion of local people to work in their companies; the roles of buyers and sellers in Saudi Arabia and in China are different; the concept of time is different. (3) Interpersonal adaptation: Chinese people in Saudi Arabia still have the most frequent contact with their Chinese compatriots, and it is difficult for them to develop close friendship with foreigners. Chinese people are good at creating harmonious interpersonal relationships for work through some after-work activities, such as drinking tea, eating out and holding football matches. (4) Chinese image adaptation: Chinese enterprise personnel in Saudi Arabia have decent income, and Saudi police fail to check Chinese cars, all of which make the Chinese people have a positive face value. In view of the above four adaptation situations of Chinese enterprise personnel in Saudi Arabia, the following suggestions are proposed: (1) Be strict with yourself in life, respect local social and religious customs, and also keep a careful attitude and actively deal with disadvantageous factors. (2) While benefiting from working or doing business in Saudi Arabia, we should make contributions for the development of local economy and society, providing employment and training for local people. (3) We should observe the local laws and regulations, and also follow the local and international market rules. (4) In interpersonal communication, we should combine the maintenance mode of Chinese "guanxi" (relationship) with western "principle" on the one hand, and make a difference between them on the other hand. (5) In terms of image adaptation, besides maintaining a good image politically and economically, it is also necessary to improve our individual quality and our cultural cultivation overseas, be a communicator bridging Chinese and foreign excellent culture, and build a positive national image and individual image.

PurposeThis study examines the built environment in the preserved historic settlements of the Najd region of Saudi Arabia, providing insight into shared core concepts and forms that were commonly shared across the settlement's dwellings before the Kingdom's period of modernization.Design/methodology/approachSpace syntax convex mapping and the justified access graphing as the main techniques to examine several internal elements at the building level. The study created elements such as connectivity, access graphs and depth graphs to understand the integration and placement of these elements to overcome surrounding forces. Also, the author combined graphical architectural analysis with space syntax techniques to understand the spatial and physical integration in three-dimensional space. This helped to establish a link between what is two-dimensional (the building layout) with what is three-dimensional (the physical form).FindingsThe paper found that the hierarchical order of internal spaces and the order's role in shaping the physical form served to satisfy the social behavior and environmental conditions. As a result, all building elements generated with the guidance of the main culturally rooted in support with internal spaces order. This order of spaces inside the house led the urban spatial hierarchy to connect but not conflict, as the whole process of generating the physical forms is to complement each other and to produce a unified built environment.Research limitations/implicationsThis study is limited to Najdi dwelling form and culture, the author believes expanding the number of study samples in the five traditional settlements or expanding the scope of the study to examine other Saudi regions may result in new findings and insights.Originality/valueThe paper offers and discusses two mechanisms on how to enhance the process of designing modern houses in similar cultures or elsewhere in the world. Also, how traditional dwelling elements generated with the guidance of the main, culturally rooted values and beliefs, in support of the internal spatial order.

Three-dimensional vertical seismic profiling data acquired from an oilfield located in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, were used to obtain a high-resolution multioffset azimuthal estimate of compressional seismic wave attenuation. On the basis of the assumption that the fracture strike corresponds to the azimuthal direction [Formula: see text] at which the attenuation is minimized, fracture orientations were obtained in three reservoir units. Two approaches were used to determine [Formula: see text]: first from the variation of the absolute attenuation [Formula: see text] with the azimuth and second from the variation of the relative attenuation [Formula: see text] with the azimuth. The rose diagrams of [Formula: see text] estimated from the [Formula: see text] variation indicated better agreement with those showing the strikes of open and cemented fractures obtained from core interpretation than with either of those showing the two types of fractures separately. However, the rose diagrams of [Formula: see text] estimated from the variation of [Formula: see text] were more similar to those showing the strikes of open fractures obtained from core and Fullbore Formation Microimager data. This observation can be explained by the fact that in the first approach, all types of fractures contribute to the scattering and fluid-related mechanisms of [Formula: see text]. However, in the second approach, [Formula: see text] is obtained from a least-squares fitting of the variation of [Formula: see text] with the azimuth, which is based on the squirt flow mechanism that is caused by the movement of fluid between grain pores and fractures. Therefore, a comparison of the orientations obtained using these two approaches can be an efficient way to separately determine the orientations of open and cemented fractures.
