Abstract Geosteering is usually responsible for addressing geological uncertainties, such as the uncertainty in the position of the horizon structure or the structural dip angle. During drilling, the directional survey measurements are taken as true, whilst the uncertainties related to the instruments are not considered. Measurement errors cannot be completely excluded, but they can be reduced to a minimum (reducing the "ellipse of uncertainty" of measurements) by considering the variability of the Earth's magnetic field and the influence of the external factors on the tool (by employing quality control and correction of directional measurements), as a result, reducing the risks of crossing the fluid contacts by the wellbore. This work is devoted to the methods of detecting and minimizing the inclinometer measurement error while drilling, as well as the application of the results for geological support of drilling. The article describes the principle of the methodology for correcting the inclinometer measurements while drilling and indicates the cases in which the correction method is applicable. The paper considers the prerequisites for using the measurement quality control method and tools to reduce the measurement error in these cases. The possibility of using the method of geomagnetic referencing IFR, as well as methods for correcting measurements of the telemetry system BHA Sag and MSA, to fulfill geological tasks is considered. This paper provides an example of quality control of directional measurements after drilling a well with an extended horizontal section. In the course of the work, the values of measurement errors along the vertical and lateral were established at a large deviation from the wellhead of the considered well. Attention is focused on the analysis of the identified inclinometry errors, their consequences and impact on the geological drilling of the wellbore and considered an example of improving the quality of geological support using the method of correcting directional measurements while drilling.

Third-generation sequencing using nanopores as biosensors has recently emerged as a strategy capable to overcome next-generation sequencing drawbacks and pitfalls. Assessing the quality of the data produced by nanopore sequencing platforms is essential to decide how useful these may be in making biological discoveries. Here, we briefly contextualized NanoR, a quality control method for nanopore sequencing data we developed, in the scenario of preexistent similar tools. We also illustrated 2 quality control pipelines, readily applicable to nanopore sequencing data, respectively, based on NanoR and PyPore, a second quality control method published by our group.

It is well known that the wetness of steam flow sometimes causes measurement errors of the steam flow meter. However, it is difficult to clarify a particular error quantitatively in actual plants and factories, and thus far, there has been no established method for estimating the error caused by the wetness of steam flow. Therefore, wet steam flow rate measurement experiments were conducted to clarify the measurement error caused by the wetness of steam flow in a plant and a factory. In this study, as the first step, the orifice flow meter was applied because it is the main flow meter in actual plants. Experiments were conducted with the steam flow apparatus by changing the flow rate, pressure and wetness. As a result, the correlation between the measurement error and the flow condition was clarified. Moreover, for the correction of the error, a new correction method was applied and was confirmed to be better than existing methods now being used.

Abstract This study aims to propose a quality control method for digitized versions of manuscript documents that will be relevant for paleographical and codicological analysis. The methodology applied consisted of a systematic review of papers related to automated analysis of the physical characteristics of handwritings and document supports in the field of digital paleography, as well as of the numerous standards that have been emerging in the field of image engineering for quality assessment in digital image recordings. We also worked with a sample of 275 digital representations of pages or double pages of manuscript documentation dating to between the 12th and 17th centuries. As a result of this study, we propose a taxonomy of physical attributes of the handwritings and of their documentary supports that must be represented in the digital image with a high level of fidelity and without any distortions that could lead scholars to erroneous interpretations of the physical and formal characteristics of the original documents. On the basis of this taxonomy, we identified a set of typical distortions caused by digitization processes that can affect the recording quality of the physical attributes previously proposed, as well as a set of parameters and metrics for measuring quality that can be used to create a sufficiently exhaustive quality model. We also detected a series of limitations which, if not properly managed, can compromise the effectiveness of these types of controls.

In order to improve the quality of remanufacturing assembly with uncertainty for the sustainability of remanufacturing industry, an error propagation model of the remanufacturing assembly process and its optimal control method are established. First, the state space model of error propagation is established by taking the work-in-process parameter errors of each process as the initial state of the procedure and the parameters of remanufactured parts and operation quantities as the input. Then, the quality control issue of remanufacturing assembly is transformed into a convex quadratic programming with constraints based on this model. Finally, the proposed method is used to control the remanufactured-crankshaft assembly quality. The experimental results show that the axial-clearance consistency and the crankshaft torque are improved, and the one-time assembly success rate of a remanufactured crankshaft is increased from 96.97%to 99.24%. This study provides a theoretical model and method support for the quality control of remanufacturing assembly and has a practical effect on improving the quality of remanufactured products.

There are currently various algorithms with mass spectrometry in phosphorylation identification. Some quality control methods have also been proposed. However, a detailed comparative analysis among various methods has not been reported. In the paper, based on the theory of forward-reverse databases searching, we compare current major algorithms in database searching and identification i.e Mascot and Sequest, and compare various aspects and methods of algorithms in site assessment. We propose an effictive quality control method. Our result shows that this method can ensure the quality of identification and identify more phosphorylation sites.
