Indonesia is blessed with large potential peatland areas. Growing rice in peatland areas, for example, may be harmful to the environment if it is inappropriate farming practice. This paper aims to identify the best agricultural innovation and to propose strategic recommendation for peatland areas management. Farmers have applied agricultural innovations in growing rice in peatland areas with limited ecological damages carried out through water control management such as one way-water management, canal blocking, surjan or tukungan, and varieties adapted to peatland environment. The government has launched some measures to support peatland ecosystem but farmers’ support is inadequate. Implementing good agricultural technology through increased community participation in sustainable peatland management practices, strengthening farmers’ institution, information dissemination, and mutual community partnership.

Water breakthrough and the flow of water towards the perforations of a producing well increase production operation costs and influence overall recovery efficiency. To control water production, a downhole water sink can be used in which a well is completed in both oil and water zones. Water is produced from an interval in water zone, which can result in the same pressure drop below water oil contact (WOC) as the pressure drop created by oil or gas production. This system can reduce water production through oil zone perforations. Water produced from water zone perforations can then be injected in deeper aquifers intervals. This technology can also be implemented in horizontal and multi-lateral wells to further increase hydrocarbon recovery with fewer water problems. This study examines the use of horizontal downhole water sink technology to increase oil recovery. Numerical simulation is performed to optimise oil production and water control in a multi-layered oil reservoir, by optimising the direction of drilling and the downhole water sink method. Different scenarios of drilling direction and horizontal down-hole water sink method are examined to identify the option that provides maximum oil recovery. The simulation results showed that drilling horizontal wells in a north–south direction resulted in higher well productivity, and that wells with significantly more water production problems can be controlled using a horizontal downhole water sink.

In teaching Middle East Politics (MEP) courses, instructors speak of many challenges, particularly students' typical uninformed and misleading preconceived notions about the region. Based on extensive experience in teaching MEP classes, my observations suggest that using Information Fluency (IF) principles, along with the application of internet technology, significantly improves course effectiveness for both students and faculty. The following essay is based on a study of the results of teaching MEP using an IF-inspired assignment in both the face-to-face and on-line course formats. To enhance the classroom environment, I use WebCT technology to deliver, supplement, and assess my MEP classes. Along with this discussion, I have appended relevant information from the syllabus for my course, CPO 3403 Politics of the Middle East. The complete syllabus can be accessed from my website: http://www.cas.ucf.edu/politicalscience/main.php?URL=sadri.

In a study of the properties of a Ta-Au metallization system for thin film technology application, the interdiffusion between Ta(bcc)-Au, βTa-Au and Ta2M-Au films was studied. Considered here is a discussion of the use of the transmission electron microscope(TEM) in the identification of phases formed and characterization of the film microstructures before and after annealing. The films were deposited by sputtering onto silicon wafers with 5000 Å of thermally grown oxide. The film thicknesses were 2000 Å of Ta and 2000 Å of Au. Samples for TEM observation were prepared by ultrasonically cutting 3mm disks from the wafers. The disks were first chemically etched from the silicon side using a HNO3 :HF(19:5) solution followed by ion milling to perforation of the Au side.
