One of the major tasks in process industry is solid concentration (SC) estimation in solid–liquid two-phase flow in any pipeline. The γ-ray sensor provides the most used and direct measurement to SC, but it may be inaccurate due to very local measurements and inaccurate density baseline. Alternatively, under various conditions there are a tremendous amount of indirect measurements from other sensors that can be used to adjust the accuracy of SC estimation. Consequently, there is complementarity between them, and integrating direct and indirect measurements is helpful to improve the accuracy of SC estimation. In this paper, after recovering the interrelation of these measurements, we proposed a new SC estimation method according to Kalman filter fusion. Focusing on dredging engineering fields, SCs of representative flow pattern were tested. The results show that our proposed methods outperform the fused two types of measurements in real solid–liquid two-phase flow conditions. Additionally, the proposed method has potential to be applied to other fields as well as dredging engineering.

Tight oil reservoirs are characterized by a low porosity, low permeability, and strong heterogeneity. The macropores, throats, and microcracks in reservoirs are the main seepage channels, which affect the seepage law in the reservoirs. In particular, oil-water two-phase flow in different types of pores requires further study. In this study, two groups of online NMR displacement experiments were designed to study the seepage characteristics of tight oil reservoirs. It was found that the main seepage channels for oil-water two-phase flow are the microcracks, large pores, and throats in the reservoir. The large pores are mainly micron and submicron scale in size. The oil in the small pores is only transferred to the large pores through imbibition to participate in the flow, and there is no two-phase flow. Based on the influence of different pore structures on the seepage law of a tight reservoir, the pores were divided into seepage zones, and a multistage seepage model for tight reservoirs was established. Based on this model, the effects of the imbibition, stress sensitivity, threshold pressure gradient, and Jamin effect on model’s yield were studied. The results show that imbibition is no longer effective after a while. Owing to the stress sensitivity, the threshold pressure gradient, and the Jamin effect, oil production will be reduced. As the parameter value increases, the oil production decreases. The production decreases rapidly in the early stage of mining while decreases slowly in the later stage, exhibiting a trend of high yield in the early stage and stable yield in the later stage.

Numerical simulation was carried out to investigate the gas-liquid two-phase flow-induced corrosion in high productivity gas wells containing carbon dioxide. The Eulerian-Eulerian multiphase model combined with the electrochemical corrosion model was applied to simulate the corrosion rate at the tubing thread connection induced by corrosive medium containing carbon dioxide. The predicted corrosion rate was compared with the field data in the literature. It is shown that the predicted results were conservative when merely considering the phase distribution. Qualitative analysis between the predicted phase distribution, flow characteristics, erosion-corrosion position and the field data was made.

This paper presents a simple two-phase flow model for liquid-cut gas wells, which considers phase slippage and can be applied to various flow patterns. The model is developed from 312 measured pressure losses of gas wells in China, covering a wide range of flow patterns: annular flow, churn flow, and slug flow. Unlike most available methods, this new model introduces a derivation factor,ψ, to modify the void fraction, which not only considers the phase slippage but also unifies the slip model with the homogenous model. Parameter,ψ, is obtained from test data using the regression analyses method. It is a function of gas velocity number, liquid velocity number and liquid viscosity number. Frictional factor is estimated using the simple homogeneous modeling approach. The evaluation results using 145 published data indicate that the new model performed better than the other models.
