Fatigue damage in the rotating drill pipe in the horizontal well of mining engineering is usually resulted from cyclic bending stresses caused by the rotation of the pipe especially when it is passing through curved sections or horizontal sections. This paper studies fatigue life prediction method of rotating drill pipe which is considering initial crack in horizontal well of mining engineering. Forman fatigue life prediction model which considering stress ratio is used to predict drill string fatigue life and the corresponding software has been written. The program can be used to calculate the stress of down hole assembly, can predict stress and alternating load in the process of rotating-on bottom. Therefore, establishing buckling string fatigue life prediction model with cracks can be a good reference to both operation and monitor of the drill pipe for mining engineering.

During exploitation of horizontal well drilling engineering, the problem of drill string failure is very serious, there are many reasons, and drill string vibrations are main reasons. In this paper drill string of horizontal well is object being studied. The models about various vibrations are set up. The vibration rule of drill string is obtained under different situation; the axial and lateral frequency of drill string vibration in free state is studied. The analysis of modal vibration of drill string is the basis of the analysis of harmonic vibration of drill string. The harmonic vibrations rules of drill string of horizontal well are studied. All sorts of resonance frequencies are obtained practicability. This study can prove basic method for optimizing drill tool of horizontal well and reducing drill string failure.

In the course of drilling fordirectional well and horizontal well,thefriction of drill string affects the WOBconducting directly,the WOBat bottom hole is often lower than the WOBexpected,whichaffects the drilling efficiency seriously.Therefore,analyzing the WOB conductingscientificallyand calculating the actual WOBat bottom hole accurately is the key for ensuring the drilling efficiency. The effectof mud on the axial force and the structural characteristicsof drill string are considered before analyzing the force of drill string in directionalwell. Then basedon the hook load, the actual WOB at bottom hole can be calculated by establishingthe WOB conducting model for directional well,which results in practicalsignificance for analyzing WOB conducting, guiding the drilling constructionand improving drilling efficiency.

For the horizontal well of petroleum drilling engineering, the horizontal section of drill string was selected as a research object. Collision and friction between drill string and well wall, displacement response on the drill bit and other boundary conditions were considered in this simulated modeling. By using finite element analysis software ANSYS, the dynamic characteristics of horizontal section of drill string were calculated and discussed. The effect of different positions of stabilizers on the vibration characteristics of drill string were studied specially. The calculated results show that the installation positions of stabilizers have remarkable effects on the dynamic characteristics of drill string. It will change the lateral vibration and whirling motion of drill string remarkably. Furthermore, the reasonably installation of the stabilizers can decrease the amplitudes of lateral vibration and transient torque. Those results may provide some guidance for the vibration analysis of drill string system.

Based on field data and the related theories, the effects of drill string length, rotation speed, trajectory, and drilling fluid density on the friction during horizontal well drilling are analyzed in Sichuan. With increasing the length of drill string in the horizontal section, the friction grows. The drill pipe rotates faster and the torque decreases. Large undulation of borehole deviation and the “W” shape of the horizontal section lead to excessive friction. A higher fluid density causes higher torque and drag. Moreover, a friction reduction tool is designed to reduce friction, decrease the wear between the casing and the drill pipe joint, and prevent the differential pressure sticking, which improves the rate of penetration, and the specially designed spiral diversion channels improve the efficiency of borehole cleaning. The field experimental results have shown that the accumulated operational time of the friction reduction tool is more than 130 h and its fatigue life reaches up to 3 × 105 cycles. A plan of improving the tool structure is proposed to reduce the mud balling after the experiment. Finally, the mathematical model of calculating the spacing of the friction reduction tools is established, which provides technical support for investigating the friction in horizontal well drilling.
