The behavior of a liquid flowing through a fixed bulk porous layer of a granular catalyst is considered. The effects of the nonuniformity of the fluid velocity field, which arise when the surface of the layer is curved, and the effect of the resulting inhomogeneity on the speed and nature of the course of chemical reactions are investigated by the methods of a computational experiment.

AbstractSolute transport through the clay liner is a significant process in many waste landfills or unmanaged landfills. At present, researchers mainly focus on the test study about semi-membrane property of clay material, however, the influence of chemical osmosis caused by membrane effect on solute transport and fluid velocity is insufficient. In this investigation, based on the classical advection-diffusion equation, a one-dimensional solute transport model for low-permeable clay material has been proposed, in which the coupled fluid velocity related with hydraulic gradient and concentration gradient is introduced, and the semi-membrane effect is embodied in the diffusion mechanism. The influence of chemical osmosis on fluid velocity and solute transport has been analyzed using COMSOL Multiphysics software. The simulated results show that chemical osmosis has a significant retarded action on fluid velocity and pollutant transport. The proposed model can effectively reveal the change in process of coupled fluid velocity under dual gradient and solute transport, which can provide a theoretical guidance for similar fluid movement in engineering.

Abstract Background Navier-Stokes and continuity equations are utilized to simulate fully developed laminar Dean flow with an oscillating time-dependent pressure gradient. These equations are solved analytically with the appropriate boundary and initial conditions in terms of Laplace domain and inverted to time domain using a numerical inversion technique known as Riemann-Sum Approximation (RSA). The flow is assumed to be triggered by the applied circumferential pressure gradient (azimuthal pressure gradient) and the oscillating time-dependent pressure gradient. The influence of the various flow parameters on the flow formation are depicted graphically. Comparisons with previously established result has been made as a limit case when the frequency of the oscillation is taken as 0 (ω = 0). Results It was revealed that maintaining the frequency of oscillation, the velocity and skin frictions can be made increasing functions of time. An increasing frequency of the oscillating time-dependent pressure gradient and relatively a small amount of time is desirable for a decreasing velocity and skin frictions. The fluid vorticity decreases with further distance towards the outer cylinder as time passes. Conclusion Findings confirm that increasing the frequency of oscillation weakens the fluid velocity and the drag on both walls of the cylinders.

Due to the importance of wall shear stress effect and dust fluid in daily life fluid problems. This paper aims to discover the influence of wall shear stress on dust fluids of fluctuating flow. The flow is considered between two parallel plates that are non-conducting. Due to the transformation of heat, the fluid flow is generated. We consider every dust particle having spherical uniformly disperse in the base fluid. The perturb solution is obtained by applying the Poincare-Lighthill perturbation technique (PLPT). The fluid velocity and shear stress are discussed for the different parameters like Grashof number, magnetic parameter, radiation parameter, and dusty fluid parameter. Graphical results for fluid and dust particles are plotted through Mathcad-15. The behavior of base fluid and dusty fluid is matching for different embedded parameters.

The essence of the present investigation is to reveal the hydrothermal variations of viscoelastic nanofluid flow in a porous medium over a stretchable surface. A higher-order chemical reaction is incorporated with thermophoresis and Brownian motion. Similarity conversions reduce the resulting equations into their dimensionless form and then solved using Runge-Kutta-Fehlberg (RKF) based shooting procedure. The effects of underlying factors on the flow are discussed through various graphs and tables. Computational results for noteworthy skin friction and heat and mass transport are presented and reviewed with sensible judgment. The study reveals that the fluid velocity reduces with incremental values of the viscoelastic parameter [Formula: see text] and magnetic strength. The temperature reduces for the suction parameter with the existence of stretchable but enhances with thermophoresis and Brownian motion effects. Heat transfer rate amplifies for [Formula: see text] but declines for [Formula: see text]. Mass transfer rate increases with the increase in Brownian parameter and Schmidt number. A comparative analysis shows a better agreement with previous results in limiting scenarios.

Abstract We consider the 𝑑-dimensional Boussinesq system defined on a sufficiently smooth bounded domain and subject to a pair { v , u } \{v,\boldsymbol{u}\} of controls localized on { Γ ~ , ω } \{\widetilde{\Gamma},\omega\} . Here, 𝑣 is a scalar Dirichlet boundary control for the thermal equation, acting on an arbitrarily small connected portion Γ ~ \widetilde{\Gamma} of the boundary Γ = ∂ ⁡ Ω \Gamma=\partial\Omega . Instead, 𝒖 is a 𝑑-dimensional internal control for the fluid equation acting on an arbitrarily small collar 𝜔 supported by Γ ~ \widetilde{\Gamma} . The initial conditions for both fluid and heat equations are taken of low regularity. We then seek to uniformly stabilize such Boussinesq system in the vicinity of an unstable equilibrium pair, in the critical setting of correspondingly low regularity spaces, by means of an explicitly constructed, finite-dimensional feedback control pair { v , u } \{v,\boldsymbol{u}\} localized on { Γ ~ , ω } \{\widetilde{\Gamma},\omega\} . In addition, they will be minimal in number and of reduced dimension; more precisely, 𝒖 will be of dimension ( d - 1 ) (d-1) , to include necessarily its 𝑑-th component, and 𝑣 will be of dimension 1. The resulting space of well-posedness and stabilization is a suitable, tight Besov space for the fluid velocity component (close to L 3 ⁢ ( Ω ) \boldsymbol{L}^{3}(\Omega) for d = 3 d=3 ) and a corresponding Besov space for the thermal component, q > d q>d . Unique continuation inverse theorems for suitably over-determined adjoint static problems play a critical role in the constructive solution. Their proof rests on Carleman-type estimates, a topic pioneered by M. V. Klibanov since the early 80s.

Inorganic Ga–In alloy nanoparticles suspended in a traditional thermal transport fluid simultaneously increase the overall thermal diffusivity of the fluid and serve as a cyclable solid–liquid PCM slurry, providing a thermal sink definable over a wide temperature range.
