When considering the concept of distributed intelligent control, three types of components can be defined: (i) fuzzy sensors which provide a representation of measurements as fuzzy subsets, (ii) fuzzy actuators which can operate in the real world based on the fuzzy subsets they receive, and, (iii) the fuzzy components of the inference. As a result, these elements generate new fuzzy subsets from the fuzzy elements that were previously used. The purpose of this article is to define the elements of an interoperable technology Fuzzy Applied Cell Control-soft computing language for the development of fuzzy components with distributed intelligence implemented on the DSP target. The cells in the network are configured using the operations of symbolic fusion, symbolic inference and fuzzy–real symbolic transformation, which are based on the concepts of fuzzy meaning and fuzzy description. The two applications presented in the article, Agent-based modeling and fuzzy logic for simulating pedestrian crowds in panic decision-making situations and Fuzzy controller for mobile robot, are both timely. The increasing occurrence of panic moments during mass events prompted the investigation of the impact of panic on crowd dynamics and the simulation of pedestrian flows in panic situations. Based on the research presented in the article, we propose a Fuzzy controller-based system for determining pedestrian flows and calculating the shortest evacuation distance in panic situations. Fuzzy logic, one of the representation techniques in artificial intelligence, is a well-known method in soft computing that allows the treatment of strong constraints caused by the inaccuracy of the data obtained from the robot’s sensors. Based on this motivation, the second application proposed in the article creates an intelligent control technique based on Fuzzy Logic Control (FLC), a feature of intelligent control systems that can be used as an alternative to traditional control techniques for mobile robots. This method allows you to simulate the experience of a human expert. The benefits of using a network of fuzzy components are not limited to those provided distributed systems. Fuzzy cells are simple to configure while also providing high-level functions such as mergers and decision-making processes.

In the design of gravel packing sand control, the reasonable selection of gravel size is one of the keys to implementing sand control measures successfully. Aiming at the defects of commonly used methods of gravel size design and the characteristic that the gravel used in field operation is actually a mixture of gravel with multiple grain diameters, this paper builds a model of pore structure in gravel layer through researching the gravel pack structure caused by the gravel of two grain diameters mixed under actual packing conditions, calculates and analyzes the pore sizes in gravel layer. Ultimately, based on Saucier method, this paper presents a new gravel size optimization idea for gravel packing sand control with multiple grain diameters mixed, which agrees with the actual situation of industrial gravel, and gives the idea’s computing method. Considering the ideality of the model in this paper, the author has modified the computing method to make it more fit for the actual packing situation. This gravel size design method also gives consideration to the impact of formation sand uniformity on sand control effect, so it have the characteristics of good practicability, wide applicability and more accurate than other conventional methods.

The chemical sand consolidation methods involve pumping of chemical materials, like furan resin and silicate non-polymer materials into unconsolidated sandstone formations, in order to minimize sand production with the fluids produced from the hydrocarbon reservoirs. The injected chemical material, predominantly polymer, bonds sand grains together, lead to higher compressive strength of the rock. Hence, less amounts of sand particles are entrained in the produced fluids. However, the effect of this bonding may impose a negative impact on the formation productivity due to the reduction in rock permeability. Therefore, it is always essential to select a chemical material that can provide the highest possible compressive strength with minimum permeability reduction. This review article discusses the chemical materials used for sand consolidation and presents an in-depth evaluation between these materials to serve as a screening tool that can assist in the selection of chemical sand consolidation material, which in turn, helps optimize the sand control performance. The review paper also highlights the progressive improvement in chemical sand consolidation methods, from using different types of polymers to nanoparticles utilization, as well as track the impact of the improvement in sand consolidation efficiency and production performance. Based on this review, the nanoparticle-related martials are highly recommended to be applied as sand consolidation agents, due to their ability to generate acceptable rock strength with insignificant reduction in rock permeability.

The use of mobile phones while driving has been a hot topic in the field of driving safety for decades. Although there are few studies on the influence of gesture control on in-vehicle secondary tasks, this study aims to investigate the impact of gesture-based mobile phone use without touching while driving from the perspective of multiple-resource workload owing to visual, auditory, cognitive, and psychomotor resource occupation. A novel gesture control technique was adopted for secondary task interactions, to recognize the gestures of drivers. An experiment was conducted to study the influences of two interaction modes, traditional touch-based mobile phone interaction and gesture-based mobile phone interaction, on driving behavior in three different cognitive level task groups. The results indicate that gesture-based mobile phone interaction can improve driving performance with regard to lateral position-keeping ability and steering wheel control; nevertheless, it has no significant impact on longitudinal metrics such as driving speed, driving speed variation, and throttle control variation. Gesture-based mobile phone interactions have a larger effect on secondary tasks with medium cognitive load but not on actual operation tasks. It was also verified that the performance of gesture-based mobile phone interaction was better in secondary mobile phone tasks such as switching (e.g., switching songs) and adjusting (e.g., adjusting volume) than the traditional interaction mode. This study provides the theoretical and experimental support for human–computer interaction using gesture-based mobile phone interactive control in future automobiles.

The paper considers a model for the transmission dynamics of a vector-borne disease with nonlinear incidence rate. It is proved that the global dynamics of the disease are completely determined by the basic reproduction number. In order to assess the effectiveness of disease control measures, the sensitivity analysis of the basic reproductive numberR0and the endemic proportions with respect to epidemiological and demographic parameters are provided. From the results of the sensitivity analysis, the model is modified to assess the impact of three control measures; the preventive control to minimize vector human contacts, the treatment control to the infected human, and the insecticide control to the vector. Analytically the existence of the optimal control is established by the use of an optimal control technique and numerically it is solved by an iterative method. Numerical simulations and optimal analysis of the model show that restricted and proper use of control measures might considerably decrease the number of infected humans in a viable way.

Intelligent reflecting surface (IRS) has recently emerged as a promising technology for 6G wireless systems, due to its capability to reconfigure the wireless propagation environment. In this paper, we investigate a Rate-Splitting Multiple Access (RSMA) for IRS-assisted downlink system, where the base station (BS) communicates with single-antenna users with the help of an IRS. RSMA relies on rate-splitting (RS) at the BS and successive interference cancellation (SIC) at the users and provides a generalized multiple access framework. We derive a new architecture called IRS-RS that leverages the interplay between RS and IRS. For performance analysis, we utilize an \textit{on-off control technique} to control the passive beamforming vector of the IRS-RS and derive the closed-form expressions for outage probability of cell-edge users and near users. Moreover, we also analyze the outage behavior of cell-edge users for a sufficiently large number of reflecting elements. Additionally, we also analyze the outage performance of cooperative RS based decode-and-forward (DF)-assisted framework called DF-RS. Through simulation results, it is shown that the proposed framework outperforms the corresponding DF-RS, RS without IRS and IRS-assisted conventional non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) schemes. Furthermore, the impact of various system's parameters such as the number of IRS reflecting elements and the number of users on the system performance is revealed.
