The paper will deal with new developments on basis of the ideas, laid down in ASME paper 90-GT-180, presented at the Brussels Conference. In this former paper a combination of incinerators and cogen systems was described. New development show, that some of these ideas can also be used in cogen plants, in which all steam is raised and superheated in a waste heat boiler behind a high grade fuel fired gas turbine (natural gas or equivalent). This paper will deal give a description of the new system. A comparison will be made with conventional cogen systems, comprising of a gas turbine, a dual pressure non-fired waste heat boiler and a condensing steam turbine. On basis of a particular case study both the technical and financial performances will be compared with each other.

The objective of this study is to identify the impact of an inter-line conveyor on the throughput performance of manufacturing systems and determine the capacity of an inter-line conveyor to improvise productivity. First, manufacturing system for an automotive assembly line is modeled by adopting the methodology of two lines with an inter-line conveyor system. A quantitative analysis of an inter-line conveyor capacity is carried out under different conditions and capacities using discrete event simulation (DES). The initial results are obtained to justify the purpose of an inter-line conveyor followed by introducing a random failure of a station for the duration of 10 minutes, 30 minutes, and catastrophic breakdown of two hours at upstream and downstream line separately. The case study outcomes show that, 20 unit is an optimum capacity resulting in improved productivity. The findings of the different stoppage and catastrophic breakdown study show the buffering of an inter-line conveyor may serve as a new approach and guideline to the buffer stack design and scheduling maintenance.

Since mid-2018, we have used a suite of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies to automatically generate the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence’s AI-Alert, a weekly email sent to all Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence members and thousands of other subscribers. This alert contains ten news stories from around the web that focus on some aspect of AI, such as new AI inventions, AI’s use in various industries, and AI’s impacts in our daily lives. This alert was curated by-hand for a decade before we developed AI technology for automation, which we call “NewsFinder.” Recently, we redesigned this automation and ran a six-month experiment on user engagement to ensure the new approach was successful. This article documents our design considerations and requirements, our implementation (which involves web crawling, document classification, and a genetic algorithm for story selection), and our reflections after a year and a half since deploying this technology.

Introduction: In order to have a good assessment of the quality of maternal and child health care, it is essential that there is up-to-date and reliable information. Objective: To evaluate the impact of the implementation of a computerized database of clinical processes in the admission, archive and medical statistics section, of Maternity hospital Irene Neto/Lubango-Angola. Methodology: A descriptive study with a quantitative and qualitative approach to carry out a retrospective case study deliveries and newborns, records from 2014 to 2017. Final considerations: The implementation of this project may contribute to the improvement of clinical management support management of the hospital as well as facilitating access to information for research and scientific production.
