We use a dataset for the group of G7 countries and China to study the out-of-sample predictive value of uncertainty and its international spillovers for the realized variance of crude oil (West Texas Intermediate and Brent) over the sample period from 1996Q1 to 2020Q4. Using the Lasso estimator, we found evidence that uncertainty and international spillovers had predictive value for the realized variance at intermediate (two quarters) and long (one year) forecasting horizons in several of the forecasting models that we studied. This result holds also for upside (good) and downside (bad) variance, and irrespective of whether we used a recursive or a rolling estimation window. Our results have important implications for investors and policymakers.

Prestress is a key parameter in bolting, while the cohesive force of layers in the compound roof strata is low and prone to separation, causing the prestress proliferation very poor. With the method of numerical simulation analysis,the location of separation in compound roof to affect the performance of bolting support was researched. It is concluded the roof separation in the edge of anchorage zone, the prestress field superpose, but is away from the deep surrounding rock and shows poor stability,however the role of cable can make up for the defect of rockbolts support. It has been found the highly prestressed strength bolting system adapts to the compound roof.

A community composition island biogeography model was developed to explain and predict two community patterns (beta diversity and endemism) with the consideration of speciation, extinction and dispersal processes. Results showed that rate of speciation is positively and linearly associated with beta diversity and endemism, that is, increasing species rates typically could increase the percentage of both endemism and beta diversity. The influences of immigration and extinction rates on beta diversity and endemism are nonlinear, but with numerical simulation, I could observe that increasing extinction rates would lead to decreasing percentage of endemism and beta diversity. The role of immigration rate is very similar to that of speciation rate, having a positive relationship with beta diversity and endemism. Finally, I found that beta diversity is closely related to the percentage of endemism. The slope of this positive relationship is determined jointly by different combinations of speciation, extinction and immigration rates.

In this paper the sea breeze dynamics in Oran agglomeration atmosphere, in the north Algeria, is investigated and analyzed by a numerical simulation of Oran agglomeration atmosphere, using SUBMESO model during diurnal cycle of June 24, 2010, in order to predict the spatio-temporal starting of sea breeze, its intensity and relative direction through atmospheric flow variations analysis, and to evaluate the role of thermal circulations on sea breeze direction, intensity and ventilation and its effect on pollutant transport. The study of this area has not been investigated or analyzed in any framework, the numerical simulation was preceded by a topographic and surface data processing in order to generate the grid simulation, with a specific characteristics used by the SUBEMESO and SM2-U (Soil Model for Sub-Meso scales Urbanized) models. This simulation allowed us to know all sea breeze characteristics during the study period.

In this paper, we analyzed the live fish trajectory recorded from an experiment in an experimental vertical slot fishway. Combined with a numerical simulation, we demonstrated that randomness shown in fish trajectory might not merely be attributed to fish's random choices in its swimming, also could be an adaption consequence to the bulk unsteady turbulent flow structure. Simple superposing the fish trajectory on the time-averaged flow field obtained either by interpolating on discrete point measurements or numerical simulation is not an ideal method for fish movement description in fishway engineering. How to model the fish paths in transient flow and the necessity of simultaneous recording of the flow field and the fish locomotion are challenging topics. The suggested spectrum analysis of the flow field may provide a new general method to reproduce the fish trajectory in a complex turbulent flow.
