Background:In medical practice lobular panniculitis-lipodermatosclerosis (LDS) is becoming more and more common. It is manifested by degenerative-dystrophic changes in subcutaneous fat (SCF) and occurs more often in middle-aged women affected by chronic venous insufficiency.Objectives:to evaluate the effectiveness of mesotherapy (MT) and shockwave ultrasound therapy (UST) for LDSMethods:among 539 patients referred to the V.A. Nasonova Research Institute of Rheumatology with the referral diagnoses of erythema nodosum or panniculitis 8.5% (46) of patients (44 women, 2 men) aged 18 to 82 with overweight (32) LDS with the disease duration of 11,8±6.4 months was verified. Patients were randomized into two groups of 23 patients each: group I received daily MT (10 sessions) therapy with drugs that have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, lymphatic drainage and lipolytic effects, and 3 MHz UST of the node area twice a week (5 sessions). In group II MT was performed daily with 9% Natrii chloridum solution at a dose comparable to group I. The control methods included general clinical examination (characterization of induration on the lower legs with an assessment of the effect of pain pressing according to visual analogue scale (VAS pain), general blood and urine tests and ultrasound with elastography (USE) of the compaction. The main stages of control: initial (T0), after 14 days (T1), 1 month (T2) and 3 months (T3).Results:before treatment 38 patients with LDS demonstrated asymmetric (83%) inflammation of SCF of the lower legs (100%) on its medial surface (91%). LDS regressed faster with normal body mass index (p = 0,04). In all patients of group I, after a course of physiotherapy a positive trend was registered, that is a decrease in VAS pain intensity (T0 50±18 mm; T1 35±11 mm), decrease in diameter (T0 6±2.2 cm; T1 4.5±1, 7 mm) and color intensity of the node (p<0.002), SCF thickening which results in “lumping” with macrovascularization according to USE, and decrease in ESR and CRP. In 44% of cases the treatment effect increased to T2 (p <0.05). After 3 months of observation, 15 patients required a second course of physiotherapy. In group II a positive clinical effect was registered for T2 in 14 patients (60.8%) and for T3 in 19 patients (83%) (p<0.05). Over the entire observation period LDS recurrence was registered in 19 patients (41%), the median of recurrence was 3 [1; 6] months, mainly in patients of group I. Recurrence was associated with node fusion into conglomerates (OR 4.33, 95% CI 1.05-17.8; p = 0.037). MT and UST were tolerated well, no side effects were detected.Conclusion:the use of MT with 9% Natrii chloridum solution allowed us to achieve positive dynamics in patients with LDS, which significantly reduced the cost of treatment. Further studies are needed to evaluate the significance of these techniques.Disclosure of Interests:None declared

Thirty-four isolates of Fusarium oxysporum, obtained in China from cucumber plants showing either Fusarium wilt (F. oxysporum f. sp. cucumerinum) or root and stem rot (F. oxysporum f. sp. radicis-cucumerinum) symptoms, were characterized by pathogenicity, vegetative compatibility, and random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD). Of these, 23 isolates were identified by pathogenicity as F. oxysporum f. sp. cucumerinum, and one as F. oxysporum f. sp. radicis-cucumerinum, while 10 isolates were avirulent on cucumber, melon, sponge gourd, and pumpkin. The Chinese isolates of F. oxysporum f. sp. cucumerinum were assigned to RAPD groups III and XXI and to vegetative compatibility group (VCG) 0183, four new VCGs, 0184 to 0187, and a single-member VCG included in the artificial VCG 018-. The Chinese isolate of F. oxysporum f. sp. radicis-cucumerinum was assigned to RAPD group I and bridging VCG 0260/0261. The occurrence of F. oxysporum f. sp. radicis-cucumerinum on cucumber is reported for the first time in China.

ABSTRACT Boticin B is a heat-stable bacteriocin produced byClostridium botulinum strain 213B that has inhibitory activity against various strains of C. botulinum and related clostridia. The gene encoding the bacteriocin was localized to a 3.0-kb HindIII fragment of an 18.8-kb plasmid, cloned, and sequenced. DNA sequencing revealed the boticin B structural gene,btcB, to be an open reading frame encoding 50 amino acids. A C. botulinum strain 62A transconjugant containing theHindIII fragment inserted into a clostridial shuttle vector expressed boticin B, although at much lower levels than those observed in C. botulinum 213B. To our knowledge, this is the first demonstration and characterization of a bacteriocin from toxigenic group I C. botulinum.

BACKGROUND. Natriuretic peptides have cardio- and renoprotective effects, inhibiting inflammatory and proliferative processes. The role of natriuretic peptides in the early diagnosis and characterization of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and cardiovascular complications as the disease development and progresses has not been studied.TNEAIM: to study the level of natriuretic peptides in children depending on the stage of CKD development and to assess the significance of this indicator.PATIENTS AND METHODS. The study involved 93 children with congenital diseases of the urinary system at the age from 3 to 18 years. Three groups were identified: group I - 54 patients with CKD stage I , group II - 29 patients with CKD stage II; Group III - 10 children with CKD stages IV-V (patients with CKD stages IV and V were combined due to their small amount). Control group - 10 clinically healthy children of the corresponding age. The N-terminal propeptide of natriuretic hormone (NT-proBNP) was determined in the blood by the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay.RESULTS. An increase in the level of NT-proBNP by 28.7% takes place already in the early stages of CKD. With the progression of CKD, an increase in the level of NT-proBNP was noted from 57.4 % in children in the group of patients with stage I CKD to 80 % in children in group III patients. The maximum concentrations of NT-proBNP, many times higher than those in CKD stages I and II, were observed in children with CKD stages IV-V. The degree of increase in the level of NT-proBNP correlated with the severity of CKD.CONCLUSION. In the diagnosis and characterization of CKD and cardiorenal syndrome in children, the determination of the level of natriuretic peptides is of great importance. A high level of natriuretic peptides characterizes the presence of cardiorenal relationships and can be used as an additional criterion for assessing the severity of CKD, including at the early stages of its development.

ABSTRACTSoil nitrification is an important process for agricultural productivity and environmental pollution. Though one cultivated representative of ammonia-oxidizingArchaeafrom soil has been described, additional representatives warrant characterization. We describe an ammonia-oxidizing archaeon (strain MY1) in a highly enriched culture derived from agricultural soil. Fluorescencein situhybridization microscopy showed that, after 2 years of enrichment, the culture was composed of >90% archaeal cells. Clone libraries of both 16S rRNA and archaealamoAgenes featured a single sequence each. No bacterialamoAgenes could be detected by PCR. A [13C]bicarbonate assimilation assay showed stoichiometric incorporation of13C intoArchaea-specific glycerol dialkyl glycerol tetraethers. Strain MY1 falls phylogenetically within crenarchaeal group I.1a; sequence comparisons to “CandidatusNitrosopumilus maritimus” revealed 96.9% 16S rRNA and 89.2%amoAgene similarities. Completed growth assays showed strain MY1 to be chemoautotrophic, mesophilic (optimum at 25°C), neutrophilic (optimum at pH 6.5 to 7.0), and nonhalophilic (optimum at 0.2 to 0.4% salinity). Kinetic respirometry assays showed that strain MY1's affinities for ammonia and oxygen were much higher than those of ammonia-oxidizing bacteria (AOB). The yield of the greenhouse gas N2O in the strain MY1 culture was lower but comparable to that of soil AOB. We propose that this new soil ammonia-oxidizing archaeon be designated “CandidatusNitrosoarchaeum koreensis.”

The chloroplast RNA splicing and ribosome maturation (CRM) domain-containing proteins regulate the expression of chloroplast or mitochondrial genes that influence plant growth and development. Although 14 CRM domain proteins have previously been identified in rice, there are few studies of these gene expression patterns in various tissues and under abiotic stress. In our study, we found that 14 CRM domain-containing proteins have a conservative motif1. Under salt stress, the expression levels of 14 CRM genes were downregulated. However, under drought and cold stress, the expression level of some CRM genes was increased. The analysis of gene expression patterns showed that 14 CRM genes were expressed in all tissues but especially highly expressed in leaves. In addition, we analyzed the functions of OsCFM2 and found that this protein influences chloroplast development by regulating the splicing of a group I and five group II introns. Our study provides information for the function analysis of CRM domain-containing proteins in rice.
