With octyl butyl dimethyl ammonium bromide (OBDAB) as accelerant, adsorption kinetics of dyeing silk with three reactive dyes was studied in this paper. As concentration of OBDAB increased, the dye-uptake rate increased. The highest dye-uptake rates of three reactive dyes could reach to 89.40%~98.98% and the concentration of OBDAB was only 6-8g/L. This showed OBDAB was an effective accelerant. Pseudo first- and second-order kinetic models were used to analyze the adsorption kinetic data. The experimental data were found to follow the second-order kinetic model. Meanwhile, the initial dye adsorption rates of reactive red dye B-3BF, reactive yellow dye B-4RFN and reactive orange dye B-2RLN increased as temperature increased, and the activation energy of them were found respectively to be 28.42,13.14,32.90 kJ/mol.The positive values of and obtained indicated that reactive dyes adsorption with OBDAB as accelerant was an endothermic process. The conclusion showed OBDAB was a potential accelerant.

Most of the cotton fabrics at present are dyeing using reactive dyes which requires large quantities of salt, further produce large amount of effluent load to the environment in the form of more salinity in the effluent water along with other pollutants. In order to reduce the salinity in the waste water lot of investigations were carried out. Cotton fabrics pretreated with chitosan were dyed with reactive dyes. Pretreated samples were dyed without using salt as an electrpolyte. The influence of pretreatment on kinetics in dye bath i.e rate of dye particle movement towards the fabric, wash fastness, rubbing fastness was determined. The results of this study shows that the pretreatment of cotton with chitosan increases dye uptake and shows good fastness to washing and rubbing same as that of conventional way of dyed samples. It was determined that chitosan was effective cross linking agent in salt-free dyeing of cotton fabrics.

The dyeing accelerating effect of octyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (OTAB) on dyeing silk with reactive red dye B-3BF, reactive yellow dye B-4RFN and reactive dark blue dye B-2GLN was studied in this paper. The dye-uptake rates increased with increasing concentration of OTAB, and the highest dye-uptake rates of three reactive dyes were 91~98%. The adsorption kinetics of dyeing process at different temperatures was also investigated by using pseudo first- and second-order kinetic models. The results showed that adsorption rates increased with increasing temperature. The adsorption kinetics of three reactive dyes on silk with OTAB as accelerant was found to follow the pseudo second-order sorption kinetics equation. The activation energy of reactive red dye B-3BF, reactive yellow dye B-4RFN and reactive dark blue dye B-2GLN dyeing on silk with OTAB as accelerant were found to be 26.91, 17.31, 6.99 kJ/mol, respectively.

Abstract In order to investigate the mechanism of adsorption of reactive dyes from the textile industry on ash from heating plant produced by brown coal combustion, some characteristic sorption constants are determined using Langergren adsorption equations for pseudo-fi rst and pseudo-second order. Combined kinetic models of pseudo-first order and pseudo-second order can provide a simple but satisfactory explanation of the adsorption process for a reactive dye. According to the characteristic diagrams and results of adsorption kinetic parameters of reactive dyes on ashes, for the applied amounts of the adsorbents and different initial dye concentrations, it can be concluded that the rate of sorption is fully functionally described by second order adsorption model. According to the results, the rate constant of pseudo-second order decreases with increasing initial dye concentration and increases with increasing amount of adsorbent – ash.

Application of sericin to polyester and cotton fabrics will bring about a number of advantages in that the materials become hydrophilic and are capable of imparting antimicrobial effect. Also, the materials can be dyed using reactive dyes. A considerable amount of work has been carried out on the application of sericin to polyester and cotton fabrics. Wickability of treated fabrics has been studied and it was demonstrated that there was an improvement. A detailed analysis of study is warranted on wickability as the work done on it was scant. It is necessary to validate Washburn’s equation which constitutes an important component of kinetics of wicking in this paper. The validity of Washburn’s equation for a set of data on wickability of sericin treated polyester fabrics is studied. Untreated polyester fabric and treated with caustic soda and plasma followed by sericin treatment using DMDHEU and Glutaraldehyde were taken for wicking studies. Two models were used. From the slopes it is found that Washburn’s equation is followed.
