ABSTRACTNanodispersed lead in metallic and amorphous matrices was synthesized by rapid solidification processing. The optimum microstructure was tailored to avoid percolation of the particles. With these embedded particles it is possible to study quantitatively the effect of size on the superconducting transition temperature by carrying out quantitative microstructural characterization and magnetic measurements. Our results suggest the role of the matrices in enhancement or depression of superconducting transition temperature of lead. The origin of this difference in behavior with respect to different matrices and sizes is discussed.

Cloud Point Extraction (CPE) as an effective method for pre-concentration and separation of cadmium from aqueous solution is widely utilized. This study involves a surfactant mediated CPE procedure in order to remove cadmium from waste water using Polythiophene nanoparticle and Triton X- 100 as a non – ionic surfactant. Polythiophene – coated iron nanoparticles was successfully synthesized with novel method and as a super magnetic nano-particles (MNPs) for cadmium removal from aqueous solution was evaluated. Polythophene nano-particles emulsifying method have been synthesized and fabricated. Fabricated nano-particle was characterized by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and analysed transmission electron microscopy (SEM). Effects of pH, buffer volume, extraction time, temperature, amount of nano-particle were essentially investigated. To reach in optimum conditions, related experiments were replicated and accomplished as well. For removal of cadmium by CPE approach the optimization conditions were gained at pH = 7 , volume of buffer acid 1.5 millilitre , electrolyte concentration (NaCl) of 10 -3 mole L-1 , Trinton concentration 5 %, cloud point temperature 80 0 C , extraction time 40 minutes, and 5 mg of modified polythiophene nano-particle. The calibration graph was liner with a correlation coefficient of 0. 9984 and represents appropriate liner correlation with an amount and concentration. The results revealed that 5 gram of modified nanoparticle can significantly increase the efficiency of cadmium removal.

Elastin-Like polypeptides (ELPs), as well-known temperature-controlled bio-macromolecules, are widely used. However, little is known about the interactions between ELPs and macromolecules, which is an important yet neglected problem. Here, the phase transition characteristics of an ELPs-SpyCatcher fusion protein (E-C) in the presence of polyethylene glycol (PEG) in single salts (Na2CO3, Na2SO4, NaCl) solutions were investigated using a UV spectrophotometer, DLC, and fluorescence spectroscopy, and we got some interesting results. The phases transition of E-C occurred at a concentration lower than 0.5 mol/L Na2CO3/PEG2000, while in single Na2CO3 (<0.5 mol/L), the phase transition of E-C did not occur. In the Na2CO3/PEG solution, we observed a unique two-step phase transition of E-C when the Na2CO3 concentration was 0.5 mol/L and PEG2000 concentration was less than 0.15 g/mL, respectively. In the Na2CO3/PEG2000 solution, the phase-transition temperature of E-C decreased with the increase of PEG concentration, but increased in the Na2SO4/PEG2000 solution, while it remained unchanged in the NaCl/PEG2000 solution. However, the phase-transition temperature of the linear ELPs40 decreased under the same salts/PEG2000 solutions. We also addressed the possible molecular mechanism of the interesting results. In contrast to the current well-understood salts-ELPs interactions, this work provides some new insights into the interaction between the PEG-salts-ELPs in solution.

AbstractThe UV-initiated emulsion polymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA) in the presence of FeCl3 was studied. The photopolymerization presented high efficiency even though using a small percentage of photoinitiator. The entire polymerization could be performed within 10 min and displayed a conversion higher than 90% at ambient temperature. The particle sizes could be tuned in the range of 20-90 nm. The effects of content of initiator and emulsifying agent upon the reaction conversion, distribution of molecular weight, diameter of particles and glass-transition temperature were examined. 1H-NMR technique was used to investigate the structural properties of PMMA.
