This special report discusses the outcomes of a September 2019 workshop intended to identify barriers to the consideration and implementation of natural and nature-based features (NNBF) in US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) civil works projects. A total of 23 participants representing seven USACE districts, the US Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC), and the University of California–Santa Cruz met at USACE’s South Atlantic Division Headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia, to discuss how to facilitate the implementation of NNBF into USACE project planning for wetlands and reefs using six categories: (1) site characterization, (2) engineering and design analysis, (3) life-cycle analysis, (4) economic analysis, (5) construction analysis, (6) and operation and maintenance (and monitoring). The workshop identified seven future directions in wetland and reef NNBF research and development: • Synthesize existing literature and analysis of existing projects to better define failure modes. • Determine trigger points that lead to loss of feature function. • Identify performance factors with respect to coastal storm risk management (CSRM) performance as well as ecological performance. • Focus additional research into cobenefits of NNBF. • Quantify the economic life-cycle costs of a project. • Improve technology transfer with regards to NNBF research and topics.

: COVID-19, an epidemic that emerged in Wuhan, has become a pandemic affecting worldwide and is in a rapidly evolving condition. Day by day, the confirmed cases and deaths are increasing many folds. SARS-CoV-2 is a novel virus; therefore, limited data are available to curb the disease. Epidemiological approaches, isolation, quarantine, social distancing, lockdown, and curfew are being employed to halt the spread of the disease. Individual and joint efforts all over the world are producing a wealth of data and information which are expected to produce therapeutic strategies against COVID-19. Current research focuses on the utilization of antiviral drugs, repurposing strategies, vaccine development as well as basic to advanced research about the organism and the infection. The review focuses on the life cycle, targets, and possible therapeutic strategies, which can lead to further research and development of COVID-19 therapy.

The 2030 climate and energy framework includes EU-wide targets and policy objectives for the period 2021–2030 of (1) at least 55% cuts in greenhouse gas emissions (from 1990 levels); (2) at least 32% share for renewable energy; and (3) at least 32.5% improvement in energy efficiency. In this context, the methodology of the cost-optimal level from the life-cycle cost approach has been applied to calculate the cost of renovating the existing building stock in Europe. The aim of this research is to analyze a pilot building using the cost-optimal methodology to determine the renovation measures that lead to the lowest life-cycle cost during the estimated economic life of the building. The case under study is an apartment building located in a mild Mediterranean climate (Castellon, SP). A package of 12 optimal solutions has been obtained to show the importance of the choice of the elements and systems for renovating building envelopes and how energy and economic aspects influence this choice. Simulations have shown that these packages of optimal solutions (different configurations for the building envelope, thermal bridges, airtightness and ventilation, and domestic hot water production systems) can provide savings in the primary energy consumption of up to 60%.

The increase in complexity of modern mechanical systems can often lead to systems that are difficult to diagnose, and therefore require a great deal of time and money to return to a normal operating condition. Analyzing mechanical systems during the product development stages can lead to systems optimized in the area of diagnosability, and therefore to a reduction of life cycle costs for both consumers and manufacturers and an increase in the useable life of the system. A methodology for diagnostic evaluation of mechanical systems incorporating indication uncertainty is presented. First, Bayes formula is used in conjunction with information extracted from the Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), component reliability, and prior system knowledge to construct the Component-Indication Joint Probability Matrix (CIJPM). The CIJPM, which consists of joint probabilities of all mutually exclusive diagnostic events, provides a diagnostic model of the system. The Replacement Matrix is constructed by applying a predetermined replacement criterion to the CIJPM. Diagnosability metrics are extracted from a Replacement Probability Matrix, computed by multiplying the transpose of the Replacement Matrix by the CIJPM. These metrics are useful for comparing alternative designs and addressing diagnostic problems of the system, to the component and indication level. Additionally, the metrics can be used to predict cost associated with fault isolation over the life cycle of the system.

Pura Paluang yang terletak di Kecamatan Nusa Penida, Kabupaten Klungkung Bali, tepatnya di kawasan Dusun Karangdawa, Desa Bungamekar memiliki dua pelinggih (bangunan suci) yang sedikit kurang lazim bentuknya dibandingkan pura-pura lain pada umumnya di Bali. Jika pelinggih umumnya di pura-pura berbentuk seperti candi, maka bentuk pelinggih di Pura Paluang menyerupai mobil jenis Jimny dan VW Beatle. Sampai saat ini informasi mengenai Pura Paluang ini masih berupa artikel-artikel yang berisi mengenai sejarah dan keunikan Pura Paluang tersebut. Untuk memperkenalkan potensi pengetahuan sejarah, spiritual dan budaya yang ada di Pura Paluang salah satunya adalah melalui media Informasi Teknologi (IT) yang dikemas dalam Multimedia Interaktif Berbasis Android, yang diharapkan dapat menjadi wadah Informasi yang edukatif serta atraktif yang mudah di akses oleh masyarakat pada umumnya dan umat Hindu pada khususnya. Metode penelitian yang dilakukan adalah penelitian dengan metode penelitian R&D (Research And Development). Metode yang digunakan untuk mengembangkan multimedia interaktif ini adalah metode Multimedia Development Life Cycle (MDLC) dan terdapat 6 tahapan, yaitu concept, design, material collecting, assembly, dan testing. Aplikasi Multimedia Interaktif Pengenalan Pura Paluang Nusa Penida – Klungkung Berbasis Android dalam pengujian menggunakan metode Blackbox sudah berjalan sesuai dengan yang diharapkan, fungsionalitas aplikasi juga sudah berfungsi dengan baik

Jakarta is a lowland area with 40% of its territory at an elevation below the sea level so it is very vulnerable to flooding. One of out many causes floods in Jakarta is by the overflow of the Ciliwung River. The Ciliwung Watershed has a very strategic value in Indonesia because the Ciliwung River is one of thirteen rivers crossing the nation's capital. The rapid urbanization and population growth led to an increasing impervious area in the Ciliwung Watershed which resulted in a flood hydrograph change. This research aims to determine the influence of land use change, which is taking into account the spatial discretization and the riparian characteristic of Middle - Lower Ciliwung Sub-Watershed on flood hydrograph at Manggarai Weir. This research reviews the related literature on the implementation of HEC-GeoHMS version 10.1 developed by US Army Corps of Engineers (2013) to estimate the effect of land use change on flood hydrographs by taking into account the characteristics of the riparian described descriptively and present arguments to claim that the discretization spatial method can provide significantly more flood hydrographs results with existing conditions.
