The influence of sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS) on the adsorption properties of non-ionic polymers, i.e. polyethylene glycol (PEG) and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), at the Al2O3/solution interface was studied. Measurements for various molecular weights and for various amounts of functional groups on the polymer macromolecules were undertaken and the results obtained discussed in the light of these variations. Studies of the mutual interactions of the polymer–surfactant system in aqueous solution were helpful in explaining the equilibria involved in the Al2O3/polymer solution system in the presence of SDS. The thickness of the adsorption layer was determined by viscometric methods and the influence of the degree of hydrolysis of PVA on the structure of the adsorption layer demonstrated.

Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) was grafted on graphene nanosheets (GN) in the reduction of graphene oxide with hydrazine hydrate. The obtained GN-PVA (GP) suspension was treated with the freezing–thawing cycle to fabricate 3D porous monolithic GP materials, which were modified with carbon disulfide to introduce xanthan groups on the wall of porous materials, marked as GPCs. The characterization of GPCs confirmed that PVA was attached on the surface of GNs, and xanthan groups were effectively functionalized on the porous structures, which were composed of randomly oriented GNs. The Pb[Formula: see text] adsorption pattern for GPC materials was investigated. The kinetic adsorption and isotherm data fit the pseudo second-order kinetic and the Langmuir isotherm models, respectively. The maximum adsorption capacity of Pb[Formula: see text] reached 242.7[Formula: see text]mg/g. And GPCs for Pb[Formula: see text] adsorption could be regenerated with ethylenediamine tetracetic acid (EDTA) solution for repetitious adsorption.

the corrosion inhibition of polyethylene glycol 200 for magnesium alloy AZ91 in 1% NaCl solution at different temperatures are studied. The morphology of the sample at 25°C is analyzed by SEM. And CHI600C electrochemistry workstation is employed to investigate the corrosion inhibition of the samples. The results show that the corrosion inhibition efficiency of polyethylene glycol 200 to the magnesium alloy AZ91 is affected by temperature. Polyethylene glycol 200 has superior corrosion inhibition to the magnesium alloy at the temperature of 25°C.
