The corrosion behavior of pure aluminum (Al) in 20 v/v% ethanol–gasoline blends has been studied using electrochemical techniques. Ethanol was obtained from different fruits including sugar cane, oranges, apples, or mangos, whereas other techniques included lineal polarization resistance, electrochemical noise, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy for 90 days. Results have shown that corrosion rates for Al in all the blends were higher than that obtained in gasoline. In addition, the highest corrosion rate was obtained in the blend containing ethanol obtained from sugar cane. The corrosion process was under charge transfer control in all blends; however, for some exposure times, it was under the adsorption/desorption control of an intermediate compound. Al was susceptible to a localized, plotting type of corrosion in all blends, but they were bigger in size and in number in the blend containing ethanol obtained from sugar cane.

The crevice corrosion behaviors of X52 carbon steel in two typical Cl--containing solutions were investigated by electrochemical noise and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. Results show that oxygen concentration difference leads to the coupled current in NaCl + NaHCO3 solution while HAc concentration difference causes the coupled current in NaCl solution saturated with CO2 in the presence of HAc. There exists an apparent incubation stage during the crevice corrosion process of X52 carbon steel in the former. However, no obvious incubation period of crevice corrosion can be observed in the latter. Micrography shows that the crevice corrosion occurs indeed and the corrosion inside the crevice is not uniform.

The characteristic parameters of electrochemical noise (EN) spectra were used to study the corrosion process of aluminum alloy in distilled water with or without chlorate (Cl-).The experimental results showed that the parameters obtained from the time-domain spectra analysis were not consistent with the parameters obtained from the frequency-domain analysis. This paper attempted to explain the phenomenon by the time-domain noise spectra, the corrosion characteristic of aluminum alloy, the source of noise transient, and the types of the pitting corrosion of aluminum alloy.

The electrochemical response of chalcopyrite was studied using electrochemical noise analysis (ENA). The assay was carried out under constant aeration using 30 mL in two electrochemical cells containing iron-free mineral salts solution. These cells were initially monitored for 56 hours. After 72 hours, 7.25×1010 cells mL-1 of A. ferrooxidans strain LR were added in both cells and monitored until 128 h. Subsequent to this period, 0.927 mmol L-1 of silver ions and 400 mmol L-1 of chloride ions were added each one separately. Both conditions were monitored until 168 hours. According to results obtained, it was observed that Cl- ions addition induced an accelerated corrosion process. However, there is a tendency of the system to reach the stationary state due to repassivation of the electrodic surface. In the other side, the Ag+ addition contributed for the maintenance of the oxidant atmosphere, in spite of controversial effect caused by considerable variations in the Rn values, resulting in a instability in the chalcopyrite reactivity.

The electrochemical noise (EN) of N80 steel in NaCl solution has been studied by the wavelet and the equivalent circuit theory. Spectrum analysis showed that the corrosion data is no transient peaks, the variations of potential and current showed typical characteristics of uniform corrosion. Wavelet analysis results show that the different time energy fluctuations of different size ranges, low-level occur fluctuations repeatedly and high-level appear concave curve. Analysis shows that it is mainly due to uniform corrosion process, and the control step is diffusion process of corrosive ion. The applications of equivalent circuit analyze electrochemical noise data in theory, and describe the corrosion process by the components of potential noise and current noise power spectral density

Electrochemical noise (EN) data is commonly used to monitor corrosion of metals in various environments. In this work we use recurrence quantification analysis (RQA) to study EN time series of stainless steel AISI 316 samples immersed in a mildly corrosive electrolyte. It is found that RQA of current and potential time series reveal different information: current time series provides detailed information on the kinetics of the pitting corrosion process, while the potential time series identifies the transitions from one thermodynamic state to another in the pitting corrosion process.
