Fluorinated alkyl groups are important motifs in bioactive compounds, positively influencing pharmacokinetics, potency and F conformation. The oxidative difluorination of alkenes represents an H important strategy for their preparation, yet current methods are limited in their alkene-types and tolerance of electron-rich, readily oxidized functionalities, as well as in their scalability. Herein, we report a method for the difluorination of a number of unactivated alkene-types that is tolerant of electron-rich functionality, giving products that are otherwise unattainable. Key to success is the electrochemical generation of a hypervalent iodine mediator (in the presence of nucleophilic fluoride and HFIP) using an ‘ex-cell’ approach, which avoids the oxidative decomposition of the substrate. The more sustainable conditions give good to excellent yields of product in up to decagram scales<br>

The first step of electrochemical oxidation of 2-phenyl- and 2-(4-tolyl)-1,3,4,7-tetramethylisoindoles in anhydrous acetonitrile produces relatively stable cationradicals which have been studied by means of EPR spectroscopy using the method of internal electrochemical generation of radicals under reduced temperature. The same electrochemical behaviour of the both studied derivatives and identical EPR spectra of their cationradicals can be explained within the Huckel MO method. The largest contribution to the magnitude of splitting constant of nitrogen nucleus is due to π-σ-spin polarization of C-N bonds caused by high spin abundance of pz-AO of carbon atoms. Half-life of decomposition of the studied cationradicals is 4 min at -30°C.

The present study aimed to evaluate the factors that influence the formation of sodium hydroxide (NaOH) by means of an electrolytic cell with ion exchange membranes. To achieve this experiment, the NaOH production cell had to be designed and built inexpensively, using graphite electrodes. The operational parameters in our study were: initial NaOH concentration, applied voltage, and temperature. All experiments were carried out using model NaCl solutions with a concentration of 40 g/L for 150 min. The results of the experiment were that the NaOH concentration, conductivity, and pH presented an increasing linear trend with the electrolysis time. Finally, it was possible to obtain the efficiency level of the electric current in our investigation, which was an average of 80.2%, that indicated good performance of the built cell.
