Rapid growth of tourism industry in Croatia has had an impact upon the national passenger and cruise fleet so that, according to statistical data, by 1989, the coastal regions and the islands of Croatia were visited by 7.8 million tourists (58 million bed nights). Parallely with the development of passenger shipping industry, which also reflected the rise of shipbuilding industry and tourism in Croatia, catering activities on liner and cruise ships have recorded an upward trend. In this context, passengers were provided with basic catering services on short routes and with a more complete and sophisticated culinary service on longer coastal and international cruising routes. Passenger and cruise catering , is part of catering business activities on various means of transportation, aiming to meet passenger needs and requirements within the larger framework of various services generally provided on board ships. Passenger shipping companies regard catering services and activities on board their ships as an accessory yet indispensable component making part of their principal activities, i.e. carriage of passengers and goods by sea. This paper deals with the management and quality of catering services on board ships owned and operated by Croatian largest passenger shipping company "Jadrolinija" Rijeka and reflects many specific features and a critical analysis in this domaine.

The international shipping industry is responsible for the carriage of around 90% of world trade. Shipping is the life blood of the global economy.The food you eat, the clothes you wear, the oil that fuels your automobile-everything has been transferred via ships. In fact, most of the products in your vicinity now have probably been on a ship at some point!There are over 50,000 merchant ships trading internatio-nally, transporting every kind of cargo. The world fleet is registered in over 150 nations, and manned by over a million seafarers of virtually every nationality. Yet, it is all too easy to overlook the very real human element of shipping. The Seafarers. Whether the crew member be an Officer, Master/ Captain or Able Bodied Seaman everyone plays a vitally important role in our day to day life and crewing agencies are like a collecting link between seamen and shipowners. The purpose of the article is identifying theoretical background and genesis of crewing services; determining the pattern of maritime business impact on labor maritime market segment infrastructure and disclosure of addiction of efficient operation of a shipping company from quality of crewing services and also assessment of the current state and identification of the main factors which allow for crewing agency to develop own integration potential in order to state one of the leadest company in the maritime business.Considering the rapid development and scientific and technical process of the shipbuilding industry, growing number of new recruiting companies, hazardousjob and «humanfactor», it is allowed to courageously declare that a main key to success of crewing agency is quality selection of qualified maritime staff who directly affects competitiveness of the shipping company.Being a key link in the chain of «shipowner-crewing agency-maritime staff», the crewing company must have a managingapproach and development plans for the improvement of quality of provided services for seafarers and shipowners. <p><em>Safety management in the shipping industry is based on an international regulation. It is International Safety Management Code (ISM-Code) which is a translation of SOLAS ‘74 Chapter IX. It stated that t</em><em>he objectives of the Code are to ensure safety at sea, prevention of human injury or loss of life, and avoidance of damage to the environment, in particular, to the marine environment, and to property.it is also</em><em> requires commitment from top management to implementation on both company and on board. The implementation of the ISM-Code is expected to make the ship’s safety is more secure. The ISM-Code fulfillment refers to 16 elements, there are; General; Safety and Environmental Protection Policy; Company Responsibility and Authority; Designated Person(s); Master Responsibility and Authority; Resources and Personnel; Shipboard Operation; Emergency Preparedness; Report and Analysis of Non-conformities, Accidents and Hazardous Occurrences; Maintenance of the Ship and Equipment; Documentation; Company Verification, Review, and Evaluation;  Certification and Periodical Verification; Interim Certification; Verification; Forms of Certificate. The responsibility and authority of Designated Person Ashore / DPA in a shipping company is regulated in the ISM-Code. Tujuan dari <em>ISM-Code</em> <em>“The objectives of the Code are to ensure safety at sea, prevention of human injury or loss of life, and avoidance of damage to the environment, in particular, to the marine environment, and to property”</em> dan  <em>ISM-Code</em> menghendaki adanya komitmen dari manajemen tingkat puncak sampai pelaksanaan, baik di darat maupun di kapal.  Pemberlakuan <em>ISM-Code</em> tersebut diharapkan akan membuat keselamatan kapal menjadi lebih terjamin. Pemenuhan <em>ISM-Code</em> mengacu kepada 16 elemen yang terdiri dari ; umum; kebijakan keselamatan  dan perlindungan lingkungan; tanggung jawab dan wewenang perusahaan; petugas yang ditunjuk didarat; tanggung jawab dan wewenang nahkoda; sumber daya dan personil; pengopersian kapal; kesiapan menghadapi keadaan darurat; pelaporan dan analisis ketidaksesuaian, kecelakaan dan kejadian berbahaya; pemeliharaan kapal dan perlengkapan;  Dokumentasi; verifikasi, tinjauan ulang, dan evaluasi oleh perusahaan; sertifikasi dan verifikasi berkala; sertifikasi sementara; verifikasi; bentuk sertifikat. Tugas dan tanggungjawab <em>Designated Person Ashore/DPA </em>didalam suatu perusahaan pelayaran<em>, </em>telah diatur di dalam <em>ISM-Code.</em>  Sehingga diharapkan agar DPA dapat melaksanakan peranannya dengan baik, sehingga dapat menekan tingkat kecelakaan di setiap armada kapal yang dimiliki oleh setiap perusahaan pelayaran.</p><p class="Style1"><strong>Kata kunci</strong> : <em>ISM Code</em>, Manajemen keselamatan, <em>Designated Person Ashore</em></p>

Bali is one of spa tourist destinations having various categories of spas and spa treatments, and the most important is the spa therapists. Spa development becomes an interesting phenomenon to be studied when it is associated with an involvement of Balinese women as spa therapists in foreign countries. The world’s demand for Balinese spa therapists has become the motivation of women to work in this area. The work and life of Balinese spa therapists while they are working in foreign countries serve as parameters to know their quality of life, and these parameters are also the main focus of this study. Through in-depth interviews and questionnaires distributed to 20 therapists it was found out that 85 percent of them have revealed an improvement in their quality of life that is influenced by two factors: the material and intimacy factors. The material factor in question refers to the economic improvement of the family as they could earn enough income to cover their family needs. The intimacy factor in question refers to closeness and a sense of solidarity fostered while they are working abroad and the relationship within the family. This study concludes that the most important part of the development of spa in Bali is its female Balinese spa therapists due to the image that Balinese women working as spa therapists are loyal, hard-working and honest making them in demand among tourists who are seeking spa treatments. Being a spa therapist can improve their quality of life, which means that subjectively both material and intimacy factors are the aspects that affect the quality of life of the Balinese spa therapists.

This chapter examines the ideological and economic dimensions of the Zionist concept “conquest of the sea” that emerged in the 1920s and 1930s by focusing on the role played by Arnold Bernstein in the emergence of an example of a Jewish shipping industry during the interwar period. In 1895, Theodor Herzl characterized the future Jewish state as the end product of an organized mass migration and endorsed the notion of “conquest of the sea” as a necessary component of this process. The chapter first provides a background on the Palestine Shipping Company founded by Bernstein before discussing the spatial factors that influenced the emergence of a Jewish shipping industry. It suggests that the construction of a Jewish maritime “space” was guided by ideological clashes, economic and political interests, and personal networks.

This paper examines the statistical properties and the quality of the speed through water (STW) measurement based on data extracted from almost 200 container ships of Maersk Line’s fleet for 3 years of operation. The analysis uses high-frequency sensor data along with additional data sources derived from external providers. The interest of the study has its background in the accuracy of STW measurement as the most important parameter in the assessment of a ship’s performance analysis. The paper contains a thorough analysis of the measurements assumed to be related with the STW error, along with a descriptive decomposition of the main variables by sea region including sea state, vessel class, vessel IMO number and manufacturer of the speed-log installed in each ship. The paper suggests a semi-empirical method using a threshold to identify potential error in a ship’s STW measurement. The study revealed that the sea region is the most influential factor for the STW accuracy and that 26% of the ships of the dataset’s fleet warrant further investigation.

The functional value experience of family tourism has often been paid attention both by tourists themselves and the tourism industry, but the individual value experience of parents in family tourism has been neglected. Family tourism shifts the scenario of interpersonal interaction between families from home, the conventional environment, to a non-conventional one. This change in the interactive situation will inevitably bring about changes in interpersonal interaction behavior and individual perception, especially to tourists who take on the role of parents in a nuclear family. This study enriches the examination of the family tourism experience by exploring the interpersonal interaction, existential authenticity travel experiences, and quality of tourist experience perceived by parents in family tourism. The main findings are: 1) In the non-conventional environment of tourism, effective interaction between tourists and their families helps to improve tourists’ emotional experience and satisfaction; 2) Three aspects of existential authenticity are the internal causes of the impact of interpersonal interaction on emotional experience and satisfaction; 3) Differences in parental roles make important discrepancies between men and women’s perception of family tourism experiences. This study provides insights to understanding the family tourism market and brings valuable findings to the area of family tourism marketing and management.

Pre-produced triplate transition joint assemblies are widely used in shipbuilding industry to make welds between aluminum and steel for a number of years now. The straight-shaped transition joint assemblies are bent during shipbuilding. So it is necessary to study the residual stresses created by punch forming, which would have heavy effects on the quality of structural parts. ABAQUS is a suite of powerful engineering simulation programs, based on the finite element method. In this paper, ABAQUS was used as the main tool to simulate the residual stresses in a triplate transition joint after unloading. Punch-pressing was carried to simulate bending moment in ABAQUS. The triplate is consisted of baselayer (steel: Lloyd’s Shipplate Gr. A), interlayer (pure aluminum: Al99.5) and superlayer (Al-Mg alloy: AlMg4.5Mn). Results from the ABAQUS analysis showed that increasing the radius of punch significantly reduced the von Mises residual stresses in steel. Changes of von Mises residual stresses in interlayer (Al99.5) and superlayer (AlMg4.5Mn) were negligible.

The article reveals the features of the distinction between criminal and non-criminal circumstances, leading to a patient treatment unfavorable outcome. The aim of the research undertaken is to identify the nature and degree of social danger of professional negligence in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. The article analyzes statistical data characterizing the dynamics of bringing doctors and other medical workers to criminal responsibility for committing crimes that caused harm to the life and health of patients. The organic connection of iatrogenic crimes with defects in the quality of medical care and improper performance of professional duties by medical workers is argued. The author reveals the difference between the causes of death and deterioration in the health of persons seeking medical assistance, and analyzes the practice of termination of medical workers criminal prosecution on rehabilitating grounds. On the basis of materials of modern judicial practice, it is proved that there is no need to separate the category «iatrogenic crimes» in the criminal law. A differentiated approach to qualification of adverse treatment outcomes seems promising. The author proposes detailing the legal liability of medical workers and medical organizations, depending on the criminal or non-criminal nature of the circumstances of causing harm to the life and health of the patient.
