El rápido crecimiento de China y su integración a la economía global desde las reformas económicas que comenzaron a finales de los años setenta constituyen una de las características más dramáticas de la globalización actual. De los crecientes precios de mercancías a la cada vez mayor disponibilidad de ropa barata y productos electrónicos, y a la creciente cantidad de inversionistas, estudiantes y emigrantes asiáticos, la mano de China se ve por todas partes. Se ha convertido en un jugador clave en la economía mundial liderando, digamos, un cambio en el centro de gravedad de la producción global que tiende a estar en Asia. Varios estudios recientes han comenzado a analizar los impactos que este nuevo jugador está teniendo en otros países en vías de desarrollo en Asia, África y América Latina. When a hand (either real or fake) is stimulated in synchrony with our own hand concealed from view, the felt position of our own hand can be biased toward the location of the seen hand. This intriguing phenomenon relies on the brain's ability to detect statistical correlations in the multisensory inputs (ie visual, tactile, and proprioceptive), but it is also modulated by the pre-existing representation of one's own body. Nonetheless, researchers appear to have accepted the assumption that the size of the seen hand does not matter for this illusion to occur. Here we used a real-time video image of the participant's own hand to elicit the illusion, but we varied the hand size in the video image so that the seen hand was either reduced, veridical, or enlarged in comparison to the participant's own hand. The results showed that visible-hand size modulated the illusion, which was present for veridical and enlarged images of the hand, but absent when the visible hand was reduced. These findings indicate that very specific aspects of our own body image (ie hand size) can constrain the multisensory modulation of the body schema highlighted by the fake-hand illusion paradigm. In addition, they suggest an asymmetric tendency to acknowledge enlarged (but not reduced) images of body parts within our body representation.

Human scabies is an intensely pruritic skin infestation caused by Sarcoptes scabiei var. hominis. Crusted scabies (previously known as Norwegian scabies) is a rare form, very contagious and transmitted by direct contact with the skin. Despite being readily treatable, a delayed diagnosis often leads to widespread infestation of contacts, and therefore difficult to restrain. This case concerns a patient where dermoscopy (with scabetic burrows and a visible hand-glider structure), together with direct microscopic examination, allowed a prompt diagnosis, thereby reinforcing the increasing importance of this technique in daily practice.

Este artigo propõe a estrutura geral de dois motores atuantes em processos de crescimento da empresa. São eles: o de crescimento contínuo, que compreende um processo no qual crescimento produz mais crescimento, e o de co-evolução, que relaciona o crescimento concomitante de um todo e suas partes, a exemplo de uma indústria (todo) e suas firmas (partes). A concepção dos motores inspirou-se na obra de Chandler intitulada The visible hand (1977). O minucioso exame da obra segundo a perspectiva orientada a processo de Mohr (1982) buscou responder à questão "qual é a teoria de Chandler a respeito de como e por que a moderna empresa de negócios (MEN) surgiu e cresceu?". Quatro classes de processos - formação da MEN, desenvolvimento da MEN, formação da indústria e desenvolvimento da indústria - foram identificadas e descritas por meio de encadeamentos de relações de necessidade (baseadas em condições necessárias mas não suficientes). Embora tenham menor poder preditivo que as relações causais (baseadas em condições necessárias e suficientes), as relações de necessidade parecem melhor descrever a realidade complexa das relações envolvidas em processos organizacionais. Finalmente, o exame do crescimento da indústria de microcomputadores à luz dos motores de crescimento propostos fornece evidências de que estes são adequados para analisar indústrias modernas, sugerindo que os motores de crescimento contínuo e de co-evolução são potencialmente trans-históricos e oferecem contribuição para uma teoria geral e para a prática da gestão do crescimento corporativo.
