A comparative study is presented of various start-up demonstration procedures based on a combinatorial approach. The expected number of required tests and the probability of accepting the tested unit are derived using a set of auxiliary functions. A constrained optimization problem is solved for minimizing the number of required tests subject to some confidence level requirements. The variables for this optimization include the total number of successes, failures, and the maximal lengths of runs of successes and failures. Various extensions to scan statistic-based and weighted tests are included and also to the testing of several units in parallel. The alternative Markov Chain embedding approach might involve in some cases the inversion of very large matrices. This disadvantage does not exist here.

Three separate hospital clinical microbiology laboratories using three different identification systems participated in the identification of Enterobactericeae from a central pool of 'unknown" clinical isolates. With conventional tubed media, API-20E (Anlytab Products Inc.) and R/B tube (Corning Diagnostics) systems, there was a 91.1% agreement in the species designation. No significant differences at the 95% confidence level were found among the systems. Evaluation of individual tests within the systems used revealed lysine decarboxylase of the conventional and citrate of the API-20E system to be significantly different from the same test within the other two systems. The lysine decarboxylase of the conventional system had species relatedness, whereas the differences in citrate of the API-20E system were not related to a particular species. These individual test variations did not affect final organism identification. Reproducibility, evaluated as the system's ability to designate the same identification on two separate occasions, was 92 to 94% for each system. Exact duplication of selected sets of reactions was 60% for conventional, 45% for API-20E, and 61% for R/B. The variations in sets of reactions differed with the system and with the organism involved. The findings suggest equivalency among the three systems in ability to identify common clinical isolates of Enterobacteriaceae and point out the limited usefulness of these systems for biochemical biotyping.

Genders in Speed Reading; A Comparative Study at the Forth Semester Students in Faculty of Culture, Management, and Business, Language Education, This study aimed to compare male and female students’ ability in speed reading. The population of this study were the forth semester students at Faculty of Culture, Management, and Business, Language Education Mandalika University of Education in academic year 2020/2021. There were 60 students as the sample of the study in which divided into class IVA for male consisted of 30 students and class IVB for female consisted of 30 students. Data was collected by using timed reading. The data were analyzed and interpreted statistically by using a comparative method. They study found that both students ability in speed reading male and female, was bad. They are very slow readers. The data showed 11 out of 30 male students (37%) are categorized to be low readers and-19 out of 30 male students (63%) was categorized as very slow readers. Similarly 8 out of 30 female students (27%) were categorized as low readers and 22 out of 30 female students (73%) are categorized as very slow readers. There were no significant differences between genders in speed reading. The study shows the t-test value 0.298 was lower than t-table values of 2.000 at confidence level 95% and 2.660 at confidence level 99%.
