Upon reading a plot summary of Kallie George’s The Melancholic Mermaid, you might first wonder if you’ve read the book before. Humans befriending mermaids, outsiders uniting, and children learning that their differences make them special are all plots that have been told and retold in a variety of mediums. It will be no surprise to readers that, though Maude the two-tailed mermaid has twice the speed, twice the strength, and twice the grace, these same qualities isolate her from the other mer-children. Similarly, when two-legged Tony’s webbed hands are revealed, an unlikely friendship with Maude is inevitable. However, while the plot and themes rarely venture outside established cliché, there are two aspects of The Melancholic Mermaid that not only make it well worth the read but push it over and above similar fare. Firstly, George’s poetic rhythms perfectly capture the lulling melancholy of the seashore. At times, she dances the line between poetry and prose, evoking the rolling tides of a calm day at the beach. Of particular note is her command of alliteration, which when well-executed, rarely fails to captivate children and draw them into a fairy tale world. Secondly, Abigail Halpin’s illustrations are positively breathtaking. Her use of colour, space, and contrast are all wonderful to behold and do a remarkable job of highlighting the settings and mood of George’s story. While the scenes on land are depicted in vibrant purples and reds, the seashore is dominated by calm and subtle shades of blue and green. If you are the type to choose a book by its cover, The Melancholic Mermaid should most certainly be a popular choice. The high quality of the illustrations make The Melancholic Mermaid a great book for beginning readers to grow into, and it will be ideally suited for children transitioning from picture books into shorter chapter books. While the story features both male and female protagonists, it will most likely hold a broader appeal for girls than for boys. The article justifies for the need to identify and to keep track, in practice, of different groups of risks inherent in educational institutions under current conditions of pandemic and post-pandemic transformation of education under the influence of modern world uncertainty. Transformation of education functions in the epoch of digital economy changes the content and types of risks concomitant to the activities carried out by schools. Schools belong to the most conservative types of organizations. However, the environment in which schools operate is constantly changing. An educational institution, as any enterprise, has to engage in the activity aimed at risk management. Manifestation of the risk is, on the one hand, fraught with threats and damage, on the other hand, with opportunities. Assessment of possible threats and risks allows timely projection of undesirable results, creation of a system for situational response to unforeseen circumstances and, in the final analysis, formulation of a strategy for development of the university which would allow achievement of modern high quality education, its fundamentality and conformity to important topical requirements of the personality, society and state. Causes of developing risks characteristic of educational institutions are disclosed. External and internal risks characteristic of educational institutions, sources generating them and the importance of managing them are analyzed. The analysis of risks made reveals multi-varied threats and opportunities in the external and internal envi-ronment of the institution and their ability to have a significant effect on educational, organizational and financial activities of the schools.

Using egocentric network data from the University of California Social Networks Study (1,136 respondents; 11,536 alters), this study examines how difficult ties—an unexplored form of social negativity—are associated with well-being. Findings show that well-being is affected by the quality of the relationship rather than its presence in the network. Having a nondifficult partner is associated with lower loneliness compared to having no partner, but having no partner and having a difficult partner are related to similar levels of loneliness. Likewise, having difficult adult children and having no adult children are associated with reporting greater psychological distress than having nondifficult adult children. Consistent with the stress process model, the negative association of a difficult partner with well-being is buffered when that partner is otherwise supportive and when the other ties in the network are supportive. However, that association is amplified when the other ties are also difficult.

As a fast growing country in Asia, Japan is placed on higher country, neither in government rule connected with social community or in the economy system. The growth of the country has attracted public attention that makes people want to learn the Japanese language. Many high quality of Japan products are enjoyed by the Indonesian people, especially the ones that connected with media, such as comic books, anime, and play. The problem is whether the students of Japanese language that learning the Japanese language in the university are interested in studying it because of the influence of the products. After doing field research on four different universities that having Japanese Departments, it can be concluded that the influence does not exist. The students choose Japanese Literature because they like Japan and want to learn the language.

The modern phenomenon of tourism is more focused on specific forms of tourism in which sports and health tourism play a very important role. That fact is not surprising having in mind that they represent interconnected activities that complement each other and give each other completely new dimension. On one side, sports and health represent very important content of tourist offer because of the fact they enable tourists to become active participants in various activities, and on the other side, they represent important driving force for visiting particular destination. The idea of this chapter is to provide a theoretical and practical framework of this issue with a special focus on case study of Montenegro. According to the results of the research that was carried out, the general conclusion is that Montenegro has extremely valuable natural resources and potentials for the development of sports and health tourism, but there are still a lot of challenges that should be faced in the future in order to improve the quality of tourist offer and the level of tourists’ satisfaction as well as to create completely new image of the destination and position it as high-quality sports and health tourist destination on international market.

The article provides a theoretical underpinning for the concepts of «academic and teaching potential of the university», «potential of the academic and teaching environment of the university» and «potential of academic and teaching workers». The academic and teaching potential of the university is a set of informational, intellectual and intangible resources, conditions and opportunities established at the university for the production and accumulation of new knowledge, ideas, technologies, competencies and other productive properties that contribute to high quality of education, research and management, the image of the university and its competitiveness at the international level. The potential of the academic and teaching environment of the university is a set of informational, intellectual, intangible resources, conditions and opportunities created at the university for production and accumulation of new knowledge, development of competencies and other productive properties that are purposefully used in scientific and educational sphere and contribute to high quality of educational, scientific and managerial activities. The potential of academic and teaching staff is a set of accumulated knowledge, competencies and other productive properties that are necessary for professional (teaching, research and management) activities, and can be developed during formal, non-formal and informal education to improve the quality of teaching, research and management activities. Problem statement. Among Kharkiv composers, one of the significant places is occupied by Igor Kovach (1924–2003), a representative of the Kharkiv School of composers and Ukrainian musical culture of the 20th century. His works include music and stage, orchestra, concert, song, choral and literary-musical compositions, music for theatre performances, music for films and TV films. The creative legacy of Igor Kostyantynovych Kovach has a close connection with the children’s audience; it includes both instrumental music for young performers and theatrical music, where children from performers become listener, among them the fairy-tale ballets “The Northern Tale” and “Bambi”. The children’s music by I. K. Kovach did not receive proper consideration except for short newspaper essays and magazine notes, M. Bevz’s (2007) article devoted to children’s piano music. Thus, the problem of holistic study of children’s stage music by Igor Kovach still remains open. Objectives. The present article is devoted to the identification of musicalthematic, timbre-texture, genre-stylistic features, with the help of which the multifaceted figurative world of the ballet “Bambi” is embodied. The aim and the tasks of this research – to reveal the specifics of the figurative world of the fairytale ballet “Bambi” and to identify the musical means by which it is embodied. The role of the orchestra is established, the means of thematic characteristics of the characters are traced, and the peculiarities of the musical language stipulated by the requirements of the chosen genre are noted. Methodology. To achieve the aim we have used special scientific methods: genre, stylistic, intonation-dramaturgical and compositional ones. The presentation of the main material. The music for the fairy-tale ballet “Bambi” belongs to two authors: Igor Kovach and his son Yuri. The new features inherent in the sound palette are manifested in the instrumentation, where along with the usual composition of a modern symphony orchestra there are saxophones, rhythm- and bass-guitars, drums, which due to their timbres bring a sharp taste of emotional and behavioural looseness. Introducing the qualities of non-academic tradition into the academic orchestra, the authors, on the one hand, use them according to their origin, on the other – turn them into an organic part of the symphonic score. By making a “concession” to pop music, simplifying harmonious language, freeing it from the extreme manifestations of expanded tonality, bringing it closer, on the one hand, to classical-romantic, on the other – to jazz, Igor Kovach showed his inherent sense of modernity, “address quality” of creativity. Conclusions. Thus, the fabulous multifaceted world of “Bambi” is revealed in the ballet owing to the bright thinking and language of the composer. The action of the ballet takes place against the background of bright genre sketches, which are as if immersed in the very density of life. This impression arises due to the dynamics of rhythms, colourful orchestration, and a variety of styles, addressed to the sound world of today. Generalized intonations of academic art organically coexist with the turns of song quality of different origins, dance quality, march quality, jazz improvisations, which was facilitated by the co-authorship with Yuri Kovach.

This paper presents the design and development of a mini portable cooler that utilizes the Peltier effect to cool the human expressed breast milk (EBM) within 24 hours at the temperature range between 4°C-15°C to maintain the high quality of the EBM for use at a later date and the health of the baby who consume it. It is developed to overcome the tediousness of using cooler bag/box, which requires ice packs that need repetitive freezing. A few prototypes with different sizes and body materials, namely polystyrene, polypropylene and aluminium, were successfully developed and tested to get the minimum temperature using 5V power supply. In all graphs, the temperature is decreasing with time. The smallest size of the cooled space (18cm of width, 12cm of length and 14cm of height) has the lowest temperature compared to the other sizes for each body material. However, the lowest temperature of all body materials is obtained from aluminium with 11.2°C at 100 minutes. It also reaches below 15°C the fastest which is at 80 minutes compared to the other prototypes that need longer time. All in all, aluminium is the best body material for the mini portable cooler developed in this project.

The progressive data science and knowledge analytic tasks are gaining popularity across various intellectual applications. The main research challenge is to obtain insight from large-scale IoE data that can be used to produce cognitive actuations for the applications. The time to insight is very slow, quality of insight is poor, and cost of insight is high; on the other hand, the intellectual applications require low cost, high quality, and real-time frameworks and algorithms to massively transform their data into cognitive values. In this chapter, the author would like to discuss the overall data science and knowledge analytic contexts on IoE data that are generated from smart edge computing devices. In an IoE-driven e-BI application, the e-consumers are using the smart edge computing devices from which a huge volume of IoE data are generated, and this creates research challenges to traditional data science and knowledge analytic mechanisms. The consumer-end IoE data are considered the potential sources to massively turn into the e-business goldmines.

On the afternoon of Friday 22 July, a premiere of films was given at the Royal Festival Hall and was followed by a Reception at Tea when Mr F. J. Stephens acted as host for the Royal Dutch/Shell Group of Companies. The programme was introduced by Sir Cyril Flinshelwood, President of the Royal Society, who said: . ‘In the Charter of the Royal Society the improvement of natural knowledge is coupled with that of the useful arts. Now the tradition fortunately exists in this country of good relations between the great industries on the one hand and the cultivators of natural science on the other: or I would prefer to say the very nebulous line that there is between these two branches of activity is evidence of the fact that this part of the Charter has in fact not been ignored. That the Shell Group of Companies, one of the greatest and most important, has made the extremely generous gesture of preparing the very splendid film that you will presently see in honour of the Tercentenary of the Royal Society proves that the tradition that I have spoken of is alive and vigorous. ‘You will presently agree that the film also demonstrates the very high quality of the Film Unit which the Company has maintained for, I understand, something over a quarter of a century.
