Introduction of the Brøset Violence Checklist on a PICU

Background and aims: This survey pragmatically appraised the utility of the Brøset Violence Checklist (BVC) and its potential usefulness in guiding proactive management and interventions to help reduce episodes of violence and/or aggression within a psychiatric intensive care unit (PICU). Emphasis was placed on evaluating whether this instrument was completed prior to an episode of violence and/or aggression, and (through development of an appropriate action plan) the relationship it had on management plans.<br/> Method: Use of the BVC was introduced on a PICU. Incidents of disturbed patient behaviour were collated over a 13 week period using the DATIX incident reporting system. BVC records completed over the 24-hour period prior to any incident were examined. Usage of risk management plans developed after BVC completion was identified. Plans were coded as 'Use of medication', 'Environmental interventions' or 'Restrictive practice'. <br/> Results: 86 incidences were reported. Results suggested satisfactory completion of BVC score sheets for all patients. Management plans were noted as being present and robust for patients whose BVC scores were higher (≥3), as recommended by the tool. It was noted that implementation of restrictive interventions was less than use of either medication or environmental contingencies within proposed risk management plans. However, following an episode, management plans were not reviewed.<br/> Conclusion: An empirically-validated measure to predict potential risk of violence within a PICU was introduced and appropriate management strategy plans developed. Incorporating use of a structured short term risk assessment tool was therefore deemed to be a useful addition to standard procedures.

O risco, inerente a qualquer atividade, está presente tanto no cotidiano individual quanto no empresarial. A literatura aponta ainda lacunas na relação entre a gestão do risco e as metodologias de análise de desempenho, aqui tratado através do Balanced Scorecard (BSC). O objetivo deste artigo repousa na investigação da relação entre o BSC e a gestão ou a mitigação dos riscos corporativos, analisando, se a ação de estabelecer uma cultura voltada para a implementação, execução e controle das estratégias, apoiada por sistemas adequados de medição de desempenho, impactam na gestão dos riscos. Por meio de um estudo de múltiplos casos com três grandes empresas que já haviam implantado o BSC há pelo menos dois anos, buscou-se tal resposta. Apesar do risco ser administrado de maneira diferente em cada organização, verificou-se que com a adoção da metodologia do BSC possibilitou as empresas identificarem uma maior gama de riscos prováveis, potencializando assim a sua gestão. O sistema de mensuração de desempenho auxiliou a empresa a focar eventuais áreas de risco estratégicas e auxiliar a direção em um plano de ação sustentável para atenuar os riscos. The risk, inherent in any activity, is present both in the individual and in everyday business. The literature also highlights gaps in the relationship between risk management and performance analysis methodologies, here handled through the Balanced Scorecard (BSC). The aim of this paper lies in investigating the relationship between the BSC and the management or mitigation of corporate risks, analyzing whether the action of establishing a culture focused on the implementation, execution and control of strategies, supported by adequate performance measurement systems, impact on risk management. Through a multiple case study with three large companies that have already deployed the BSC for at least two years, we sought to answer such question. Despite the risk be administered differently in each organization, it was found that by adopting the BSC methodology enabled companies to identify a wider range of possible risks, thus enhancing its management. The performance measurement system helped the company to focus on possible strategic risk areas and assist the direction on a sustainable action plan to mitigate the risks.

The article highlights the aspects of risk management in the information system. According to the analysis of the work of Russian and foreign scientists and world practices in the field of risk management, it is stated that there is a need to improve the effectiveness of risk management of information system and to develop a method for managing the risks of the information system. As a solution to the problem of effective risk management of the information system, there has been proposed a formalized procedure for managing the risks of the information system. The scientific novelty of this solution is the use of decision space and optimization space to reduce risks. This procedure allows to assess the damage, risk and effectiveness of risk management of the information system. The risks of the information system are determined and analyzed; a pyramidal risk diagram is developed. This diagram allows you to describe the relationship of risks with the components of the information system. The negative consequences to which these risks can lead are given. The analysis of methods and approaches to risk management has been carried out. Based on the results of the analysis, the methods GRAMM, CORAS, GOST R ISO / IEC scored to the maximum. The weak points of these methods and the difficulty of applying these methods in practice are described. The developed formalized risk management procedure to control the risks of information system can be used as management system’s element of the information security quality that complies with the recommendations of GOST R ISO / IEC 27003-2012. The prospect of further development of the research results is the development of management systems of risk of information system.

Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) is an effective technique in managing risk within an organization strategically and holistically. Risk culture relates to the general awareness, attitudes and behaviours towards risk management in an organisation. This paper presents a conceptual model that shows the relationship between risk culture and ERM implementation. The dependent variable is ERM implementation, which is measured by the four processes namely risk identification and risk assessment; risk treatment; monitor and consult; communicate and consult. The independent variables under risk culture are risk policy and risk appetite; key risk indicators; accountability; incentives; risk language and internal relationships. This study aims to empirically test the relationship between risk culture and ERM implementation among Malaysian construction public listed companies. Risk culture is expected to have direct effects and significantly influence ERM. This study contributes to enhance the body of knowledge in ERM especially in understanding significant of risk culture that influence its’ implementation from Malaysian perspective.

New Alpine companies, like Crans-Montana on the Haut-Plateau, remain, more often than not, trapped in representative logic opposing the clan of modernists to that of defenders of values anchored in an ideal-typical tradition. The Haut-Plateau territory, so named due to its geographic location and topographic conformation – not for the morphology of the soil – was still a space free of any construction in the mid-nineteenth century. This vast alpine meadow was marked by a few utility buildings for sheltering cattle and hay during the intermediate seasons that precede the full summer. At the turn of the 3rd millennium, the built heritage, essentially consisting of hotel structures and holiday residences, is no longer able to welcome the new socio-economic dynamics linked to the mono-culture of skiing. This crisis calls habits, both old and new, into question, given the youth of the tourist resort. In June 2000, a Federal programme selected Crans-Montana as a case study for testing an Environment and Health Action Plan. This provided an opportunity for a group of architects to formulate an inter-municipal blueprint that activated a series of urban renewal projects. The new architectural formulae that emerge try to go beyond stylistic modernism by reinterpreting the relationship with the built environment and its social context.

UNSTRUCTURED Background: Adherence constitutes a great challenge for disease management, particularly when treating chronically ill patients facing an extensive, complex and long-term therapy. Earlier studies emphasize the relevance of adherence for improving therapy benefits. Besides the positive impact of increased patient support, the use of mobile health applications has gained importance in disease management. Objective: We aimed to develop a software application providing innovative features to simplify the contact between patients and treating physicians in order to overcome adherence barriers, to implement risk management plans and to collect patient reported outcome data. Methods: A novel software application ensuring data security was developed. Various innovative modules have been implemented, enabling bidirectional communication between treating physicians and patients, supporting therapy monitoring and management and allowing the collection of large sets of anonymous patient data. Results: The PatientConcept app is freely available for download and is tested since 2016, with more than 1800 generated patient IDs and 279 patients documenting health data according to risk management plans online in 2017. The impact on adherence issues is currently tested in larger patient populations. Conclusion: This innovative app provides a feasible and cost-optimized possibility to intensify and simplify the communication between patients and their treating physicians across indications, thus promising an exceptional benefit to both. It may not only support chronically ill patients in managing their daily life and improving adherence, but can also facilitate the implementation of risk management plans through automated monitoring, thus supporting physicians in their daily routine. Furthermore, patient reported outcome data can be collected. Importantly, a secure ID-associated data management ensures patient anonymity complying with highest data safety standards.

During China’s rapid economic development and urbanization, numerous cases of urban malodorous black river (MBR) have occurred. MBR refers to a polluted urban river that smells bad, is almost black in color, has no aquatic plants or animals, and that consequently causes many social and environmental problems. The Chinese government has sought public participation during the whole process of MBR treatment as part of a comprehensive action plan to improve residents’ satisfaction with their environment. To investigate the influencing factors of public participation and satisfaction, a questionnaire survey was conducted among residential communities close to an MBR. SPSS 22.0 was employed to conduct an analysis of the collected data, using factor analysis, correlation analysis, and linear regression analysis. The results indicate that there is a direct relationship between public satisfaction and the factors of government treatment, public perception and public participation behaviors, such as engagement behavior, supervision behavior, health influence, and compensation measures.

The COVID-19 incidence in 61 manufacturing plants in Europe (EU), North America (NA) and Latin-America (LATAM) was compared with the incidence observed in the countries where the plants are located in order to evaluate the application of an innovative model for COVID-19 risk management. Firstly, a network of local and global teams was created, including an external university occupational physician team for scientific support. In July 2020, global prevention guidelines for the homogenous management of the pandemic were applied, replacing different site or regional procedures. A tool for COVID-19 monitoring was implemented to investigate the relationship between the incidence rates inside and outside the plants. In the period of May–November 2020, 565 confirmed cases (EU 330, NA 141, LATAM 94) were observed among 20,646 workers with different jobs and tasks, and in the last two months 85% EU and 70% NA cases were recorded. Only in 10% of cases was a possible internal origin of the contagion not excluded. In the EU and NA, unlike LATAM, the COVID-19 incidence rates inside the sites punctually followed the rising trend outside. In conclusion, the model, combining a global approach with the local application of the measures, maintains the sustainability in the manufacturing industry.

Purpose The principal aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between technological, marketing, organizational and commercialization risk management on new product development (NPD) performance. Design/methodology/approach Based on questionnaire, the data were collected from a sample of general automotive industry in Iran. Based on theoretical considerations, a model was proposed and descriptive statistic and hierarchical regression were used to measure the relationship between risk management factors and NPD performance. Findings Data analysis revealed that if organization can amplify their knowledge and information about risk and main factors that affect NPD process, not only can they do their work better but can also increase their ability to predict future happenings that affect performance. Research limitations/implications First, due to the relatively small sample size, caution should be exercised when interpreting the results. Second, the data were collected from automotive producer in Iran, which may restrict to some extent generalizability of the findings. Practical implications The results suggest that managers should consider more attention to risk management. If managers spread the risk management in all aspects of the NPD project, total performance will be increased and it can develop the probability of NPD success. Also organizations should perform great market research due to best commercialization. Originality/value Past researches have presented complete information about NPD process. But identifying and considering the effect of the risk management parameters that are connected to the NPD process were the main thrusts to perform the study. In this paper, based on past research about risk management of NPD, the extra aspect of process that can improve total performance of NPD has been examined.
