We have re-evaluated the X40x10 benchmark for halogen bonding using conventional and explicitly correlated coupled cluster methods. For the aromatic dimers at small separation, improved CCSD(T)–MP2 “high-level corrections” (HLCs) cause substantial reductions in the dissociation energy. For the bromine and iodine species, (n-1)d subvalence correlation increases dissociation energies, and turns out to be more important for noncovalent interactions than is generally realized. As in previous studies, we find that the most efficient way to obtain HLCs is to combine (T) from conventional CCSD(T) calculations with explicitly correlated CCSD-F12–MP2-F12 differences.

Adsorbates of [Fe(CN)5SCN]3- complex ions on semiconducting Pb(SCN)2 surfaces were subject to photoelectromotive force (PEMF) investigations. Laser flash excitation of the adsorbates at 560 nm yields a weak PEMF signal due to spectral sensitization of the semiconductor Pb(SCN)2, not absorbing in the visible region. PEMF signals observed with laser flash excitation at 337 nm are explained by hole trapping accompanied with photoinduced redox reactions of the complex, when the number of flashes is increased.

Abstract The sorption kinetics of uranyl ions micro-quantities from fluoride solutions by nanostructured materials with anatase mesoporous structures has been studied. Using the model of competitive sorption of ions and positively charged complexes of uranyl ion on deprotonated hydroxyl groups of an anatase, kinetic curves of changes in the ratio of ionic forms of uranium in solution were calculated. Modeling was carried out under the assumption of a two-stage mechanism of uranium complex ions sorption. The modeling considered the influence of the uranyl ion carbonate complexes formation. The shift in equilibrium among ionic forms of uranyl correlates with the stability of the complexes in solution.

AbstractFor the first time, micromixing characterization for the Villermaux–Dushman reaction could be performed with a non-reactive viscous medium at viscosities up to 2 Pas. As viscous medium, sucrose solution was used with the benefit of being a Newtonian fluid with tuneable viscosity. Due to the higher viscosities in comparison to established media for micromixing investigations, a new protocol for the experimental implementation was developed. Micromixing experiments were conducted and the applicability of viscous sucrose solutions was proven in a stirred tank reactor. Major challenges in characterizing micromixing efficiency in high viscous solution were consolidated.
