The paper examined the impact of external business environment on organizational performance of Micro, Small and Medium Scale Enterprises in Nigeria. It also reviewed literature on MSMEs, business environment and organizational performances. Secondary sources of data were utilized for the study. The findings from reviewed literature showed that the external business environment (economic, political, legal, socio-cultural environment, demographic, natural, technological, global and financial environment) have influence on MSMEs operators in Nigeria. It was also discovered that there exists relationship between SMEs and the environment in which it occurs. The study concluded that SME operators should understand all these types of external business environment and their implications on organizational performance of their business activities in order to identify opportunities and threats to their businesses and update their knowledge, understanding and skills to meet the predicted changes in realm of their enterprises.

Management accountants, in the conventional and contemporary age, have contributed to the development of organisations with regards organisational performance and success which has proven to be latent in Nigeria. The differences in development of organisational performance are dependent of the factors which have influenced both facets of roles of management accountants in Nigeria. This study compares the conventional and contemporary roles of management accountants and their contribution towards enhanced organisational performance and success in Nigeria. Secondary sources were analysed and information was gathered in the bid to produce literature on the issue of concern. The study shows that even with its current situation, management accountants, to varying extents, contribute to organisational performance and success. The study serves as a steer to academicians, potential employees, practicing management accountants and students in ensuring that these roles move with changes in the business environment for the sake of organisational performance and success.

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to evaluate the mediating role of organisational commitment in the relationship between work‒life balance (WLB) and organisational performance of female construction professionals in the Nigerian construction industry.Design/methodology/approachThe study empirically examined WLB of female professionals in medium- and large-sized Nigerian construction organisations. The data collected were analysed using partial least square structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM).FindingsThe findings revealed that there is a positive relationship between WLB and organisational commitment, and that organisational commitment mediates the impact of WLB on organisational performance.Research limitations/implicationsOne of the limitations of this research is the cross-sectional nature of the study and the nature of data collected, which is related to female gender. Efforts should, therefore, be made to further this study by examining the impact of WLB on both male and female professionals in construction.Originality/valueThis paper presents an empirical research on the significance of family-friendly initiatives within construction organisations in Nigerian context, and the results of the study have implications for industry practitioners and academics.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to examine what types of shipping knowledge are crucial in order for shipping companies to survive in dynamic business environment, and to investigate how the shipping knowledge affects the company’s performance (i.e. organizational innovation and logistics value). This paper also diagnoses the moderating effect of absorptive capacity on the relationship between the shipping knowledge and its effectiveness. Design/methodology/approach – Based on the literature, a theoretical framework and relevant hypotheses are established so as to show associated relationships between shipping knowledge, absorptive capacity, and organizational innovation and logistics value. Data are collected for an empirical analysis and a moderated hierarchical regression analysis is conducted to test the hypotheses. Findings – Results show that a high level of shipping knowledge has a positive influence on the organizational innovation and logistics value of shipping companies. The findings also indicate that, while the absorptive capacity of shipping companies moderates the positive impact of shipping knowledge on the logistics value, it directly affects the improvement of organizational innovation. Research limitations/implications – This research verifies that effective knowledge management of shipping companies plays a significant role in developing organizational innovation and improving logistics performance. The research findings provide shipping companies with a strategic insight into the identification of critical sources for competitive advantage and greater organizational performance from an organizational learning perspective. Practical implications – This line of research is served as an indicator of a good strategic direction for the practitioners engaged in the maritime transport and logistics industry, in order for them to become better integrated entities in a global logistics system as well as maximize their competitive advantages. Originality/value – This paper makes the first attempt in its kind at empirically examining the types of shipping knowledge and its overall effectiveness in terms of the improvement of organizational innovation and logistics value. The moderating role of absorptive capacity on the impact of knowledge on organizational performance has also been initiated in the maritime logistics research.

The present research explores the impact of training and innovation on organisational performance. Additionally, this research scrutinises how job satisfaction partially mediates the impact of training and innovation on organisational performance. Therefore, in order to achieve the objective of this research, the survey procedure using single-stage cluster sampling method is used to develop an in-depth profile, which is gathered from 653 out of 800 formal standardised questionnaires sent to employees who are in the managerial or supervisory level and above at 400 hotels in West Malaysia. For this research, only two questionnaires were distributed to the managers of each hotel. This research employed quantitative methods to produce empirical results and shreds of evidence that fulfil the research questions. The literature scrutinised training, innovation, job satisfaction, and organisational performance to fill the gap and to uncover the significance of training programs and innovation on organisational performance with job satisfaction as the mediator. The analysis shows that training and innovation are statistically significant and has a strong relationship with job satisfaction and organisational performance. Conclusively, the hypothesis depicted that job satisfaction mediates the relationship between training and innovation on organisational performance in the hospitality industry. Thus, the findings of this study could aid as an example to other hoteliers in Malaysia to not presume the impact of training and innovativeness on organisational performance. Purpose: Recent studies highlighted the increase of competiveness and fluctuation in pharmaceutical market share, the industry facing tremendous pressure. Hence the sector has the necessity to embrace the goal of delivering their products and services with value. Specifically, diabetes care in the pharmaceutical industry has been an important agenda for providing high quality services and products to the customers in past few decades. Therefore, the present paper critically views the impact of value discipline dimensions on organizational performance and competitive advantage of diabetes care in both developed and developing countries.Design/ methodology/ Approach: This research involves in secondary data collection due to achieving the objectives framed. Purpose of the Study: The impact of global leadership behavior in the contemporary business environment cannot be easily overlooked as the global environment is full of competitive challenges. Leadership behavior is critically significant because it impacts the present or future situations of any organization. The attainment of an organization’s objectives depends largely on leaders and their leadership behavior. Methodology: The data for this study were obtained from existing literatures on international leadership in global corporations as well. The methodology relied heavily on existing previous literatures on the subject being dealt with. Results: The demonstration of a specific leadership behavior by leaders affects both productivity and job satisfaction of employees directly or indirectly. Multinational firms can promote economic activities in developing nations and offer an opportunity to enhance the economic growth, qualities of life, regional, and world commons. This leadership expertise enables the achievement of maximum proficiency and output at a minimum cost. Implications: The role of global leadership behavior on the performance of multinational corporations has been discussed decisively and how they impact on both workers and organizational performance. Multinational companies often have their headquarters in one state, while other branches or outlets exist in other nations of the world and keep a high standard of leadership outfit. Novelty: The innovation of this paper is the maximum proficiency of international leadership in global corporations.

The study aimed at establishing the impact of structure on organizational performance. Organizations today are becoming more automated and complex, hence, the need to maintain and improve performance by structuring and restructuring based on changing strategy. The study was conducted using the survey approach. The geographical scope of study was Innoson Nigeria Ltd, and Etisalat, Enugu Regional Office. Two sources of data were utilised in the study: they included primary and secondary sources. The primary source was the administration of copies of designed questionnaire to a total of eighty (80) respondents that made up the sample for the study. Out of the eighty (80) copies administered, seventy eight (78) were completed and returned. Simple percentage (%), chi-square (*a) and correlation were used in analysis of the data and in testing the three hypotheses. Findings revealed that decentralization enhanced better and more informed decision making in technical and service firms in Nigeria; that task routine affected staff productivity both positively and negatively; and that a significant positive relationship existed between narrow span of control and efficiency in organizations. The study concluded and recommended among others that managers of organizations should adopt more decentralized forms of structures as means of improving the decision making process; that managers should combine both task routine and variety in organizing employees for carrying out task in order to reap the advantages of both systems of task assignment; and that employees should be empowered to be more innovative in carrying out tasks, whether routine or not.

In today’s competitive business environment, human resources are one of the most critical assets particularly for service-focused organizations. Consequently, employees’ morale has become invaluable for maintaining outstanding organizational performance and retaining employees. One of the most important factors which may affect employees’ satisfaction is workplace bullying from employers and colleagues at large. It is considered a negative and unethical issue which may degrade, humiliate and create a risk to a healthy working environment. Therefore, the main objective of this research is to investigate the extent to which workplace bullying may affect the organizational outcomes of a sample of five-star hotels in Egypt. Two questionnaires were distributed among the subjects of the sample; bell desk staff, kitchen stewards and head departments. The results of this research confirmed that there is a correlation between workplace bullying, employees’ morale and turnover intentions but, showed no correlation between workplace bullying and employees’ work performance.

Manufacturing companies outsource their manufacturing process to achieve organizational performance. Companies can focus on improving their core business processes while leaving manufacturing process to companies that are more efficient and cost-effective. However, this leaves manufacturing companies with a dilemma as those outsourcing companies are also producing for competitors and companies’ brand is liable to the integrity of outsourcing companies. By having integrity capabilities, it is argued that companies can achieve organizational performance. This paper investigates the relationship between manufacturing outsourcing and organizational performance with the mediating effect of manufacturing integrity capabilities. This paper contributes to the body of literature by investigating the impact of manufacturing integrity capabilities with resource-based view and transaction cost economics theories. Furthermore, this paper also is practically useful for companies to understand integrity capabilities that are useful to increase organizational performance in the era of the dynamic business environment.

The authors examine various aspects of the organizational knowledge capabilities and assess their impact on the organizational performance of private firms in Oman. Ten hypotheses are developed, linking the dimensions of organizational knowledge capabilities (OKC) (technological, cultural, managerial, and collaborative) with the aspects of performance. The path analysis technique is used to test the hypotheses; only four hypotheses depicted the effect of OKC on performance. They find that managerial capabilities play a significant role but have an indirect positive effect on enhancing performance. They have a higher impact only when they are inter-linked with collaborative capabilities, which have a direct and significant effect on performance. This paper deciphers the various knowledge capabilities and establishes inter-linkages among them in the firm context. The results enable the development of a productive knowledge management ecosystem in the business environment and spotlight on the wise investment of IT in achieving business goals.
