The article presents a long-term follow-up of the patient who underwent an intracardiac electrophysiological study (EPS) and radiofrequency ablation (RFA) of focal tachycardia at the age of 2 months. 12 years after the indexed procedure, Wolff-Parkinson-White (WPW) syndrome was diagnosed and required repeat RFA procedure. The atrial map of the first ablated zone was reconstructed using non-fluroscopic mapping system. EPS reported the absence of myocardial electrical activity reduction zones. There were no damages after the indexed ablation. Our findings suggested the normal electrical activity of the atrial tissue in the long-term period following the indexed RFA. This clinical case reports the absence of post-ablation necrosis and successful restoration of the electrical activity of the myocardium with the child’s growth.

ABSTRACT This study aimed to report treatment of a patient with Kennedy’s class l maxillary and class II mandibular arch with removable partial dentures supported on an external hexagon (HE) anterior type implant of regular diameter fitted with an O’ring type of attachment. This clinical case reports the oral rehabilitation of a senile patient whose clinical examination revealed missing dentition in the upper and lower arches, attrition of the lower anterior teeth, caries, and motor impairment affecting hygiene, mastication, and esthetic functions. Due to few severely impaired teeth, the pre-prosthetic preparation included extractions and restorations, followed by the fabrication of upper and lower removable partial dentures supported by an HE-type implant. This study is important because it addresses the current challenges faced in the implementation of treatment involving removable partial dentures combined with implants, which is a topic that still needs long-term follow-up and research.

The Difference

Abstract Background Fibromuscular dysplasia (FMD) often causes renal artery stenosis with renovascular hypertension. Recent clinical outcomes encourage percutaneous transluminal renal angioplasty (PTRA) to treat FMD; however, the necessary follow-up period remains unclear. Moreover, previous studies have not revealed the difference in the period until recurrence between two major types of FMD—multifocal and focal. Case presentation We describe two patients with multifocal FMD who developed hypertension during their teenage years and had recurrence of FMD > 10 years after PTRA. We further examined the types of FMD and age of onset in 26 patients who underwent PTRA. The period until recurrence of multifocal FMD was longer than that of focal FMD. Moreover, patients with early-onset multifocal FMD are likely to have a delayed recurrence after PTRA compared to other types. Conclusions Our report suggests that patients with multifocal FMD, especially those with onset at an early age, may need long-term follow-up for at least ≥ 10 years.

<b><i>Background:</i></b> Patients with hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) are still often disappointed with the current treatments offered and there is a clear demand for more effective options. Since the late 1990s there has been a revival in the use of radiotherapy (RT) for different benign diseases, including HS. During the past 20 years one case series and some scattered case reports have described promising results of RT. <b><i>Objectives:</i></b> To evaluate the long-term efficacy of RT in early-stage HS. <b><i>Methods:</i></b> A postal survey-based long-term follow-up with simple factual questions of partly retrospective and partly contemporary characteristics was performed. Sixty-four patients (96 axillae), diagnosed with mild to moderate HS were irradiated with a orthovoltage unit with 100 kV, 3 mm Al or 200 kV, 0.5 Cu filtering, respectively. Four to six biweekly fractional doses ranging from 0.75 to 1 Gy up to a total dose of 6 Gy in one series, and in chronic cases followed by four daily fractions of 2 Gy up to a total dose of 14 Gy, were given. Late treatment toxicity and the rate of remission of the disease were evaluated. <b><i>Results:</i></b> The overall response rate of the survey was 64.1% with 40.6% (26/64) valid, complete questionnaires. In total, 40 axillae were irradiated in these 26 patients. After a median follow-up of 40 years (range 32–52) complete remission of the lesions occurred in 34 of the 40 sites (85%). None of the 26 patients with 40 irradiated sites reported adverse effects at the time of the survey. <b><i>Conclusions:</i></b> RT appears to be an effective treatment for early and mild HS in the majority of patients. In this case series, no side effects were reported after a median follow-up period of 40 years.

The Galeazzi-equivalent fracture is a rare injury that occurs in children. The most important issue is the distal ulnar epiphyseal injury. Although there have been some case reports, most of them performed only short term follow-up. This article describes two cases of this fracture with long term follow-up until epiphyseal closure. First case is a 12-year-old girl who sustained a Galeazziequivalent fracture of her right forearm and underwent emergency surgery. At follow-up of 5 years and 10 months postsurgery, radiographs show ulnar growth arrest of one mm and she has mild pain. Second case is a 15-year-old boy who sustained an open Galeazzi-equivalent fracture of his left forearm and underwent emergency surgery. At follow-up of 3 years and 3 months postsurgery, radiographs show no growth arrest of the distal ulna. He has no residual complaint. Long term follow-up is absolutely necessary to monitor ulnar growth.

Background: Nevus lipomatosus superficialis (NLS) is a unique developmental anomaly or nevoid form of lipoma characterized by the ectopic presence of mature adipocytes in reticular dermis. The condition is rare; apart frrom isolated case reports, there are no large case series dealing with the clinicoepidemiologic characteristics and posttreatment long-term follow-up in patients with NLS and little published information on treatment outcome. Objective: To study the clinicoepidemiologic characteristics and long-term posttreatment follow-up in patients with NLS. Methods: This was an 11-year retrospective study analyzing disease characteristics and treatment outcome in eight patients with NLS. Results: There were eight (six males, two females) patients with NLS, of whom three were children. The classic variant of NLS was the predominant presentation. One patient demonstrated a combination of both classic and solitary variants. Most patients, especially those with solitary variants, were commonly misdiagnosed before presenting to us. Four patients, including two with the solitary variant, one each with the classic and the combined type, underwent surgical resection without any recurrence over 8 years of follow-up. Conclusions: The rare nature of the disorder, which is commonly misdiagnosed, and the absence of long-term follow-up data prompted us to share our experience about NLS to increase its awareness among health care providers.
