Effect of Integrated Nutrient Management on Rice-Greengram Cropping Sequence

Background: Intensive rice cultivation for longer periods continuously resulted in poor soil fertility. Inorganic fertilizers along with integrated and judicious use of different organic sources like FYM, vermicompost, green manure etc. could be an effective choice for enhancing crop yield. A synergistic effect on crop yield is reported through common use of fertilizer and organics which also improve soil fertility. The residual effects of organic manures applied to the preceding crops can be available to succeeding crop. Therefore, this experiments was planned to throw light on the use integrated nutrients through organic and inorganic sources on rice and its residual effect on succeeding greengram. Methods: A field experiment was conducted to study the effect of integrated nutrient management on rice-greengram cropping sequence at Navsari Agricultural University, Gujarat during 2012-15. Five nutrient combinations were evaluated in randomized block design for rice and its residual effect on productivity on succeeding greengram was studied with three fertilizer levels in split plot design. Result: Application of general recommended dose of fertilizers (RDF) to rice has increased growth, yield, quality, economics and improved soil properties and the residual effect to succeeding greengram have also gave significantly higher greengram seed yield and other important parameters and this was succeeded by application of 75% RDF through chemical fertilizer + 25% RDF through vermicompost. Among different levels of fertilizers to greengram, application of 100% RDF gave highest greengram seed yield, economics and soil parameters over other two levels.

An experiment was conducted to study the effect of integrated nutrient management in scented rice and its residual effect on pea under paira cropping system at Regional Research and Technology Transfer Station (RRTTS), Bhawanipatna, Kalahandi, Odisha during 2015-16 and 2016-17. Twelve treatment combinations comprising of T1 - FYM @ 10 t ha-1 + vermicompost @ 2.5 t ha-1 + neem cake @ 2.5 q ha-1 + Azospirillum @ 5 kg ha-1 + PSM @ 5 kg ha-1, T2 - STBFR (Soil test based fertilizer recommendation 75 : 30 : 20 kg N:P2O5: K2O ha-1), T3 - STBFR + FYM @ 5 t ha-1, T4 - STBFR + Azospirillum @ 5 kg ha-1 + PSM @ 5 kg ha-1, T5 - STBFR + Zn @ 5 kg ha-1, T6- STBFR + S @ 20 kg ha-1, T7- STBFR + Zn @ 5 kg ha-1 + S @ 20 kg ha-1, T8- STBFR + FYM @ 5 t /ha + Zn @ 5 kg ha-1 + S @ 20 kg ha-1, T9 - STBFR + FYM @ 5 t ha-1 + Azospirillum @ 5 kg ha-1 + PSM @ 5 kg ha-1, T10 - STBFR + FYM @ 5 t ha-1 + Azospirillum @ 5kg ha-1+ PSM @ 5kg ha-1 + Zn @ 5 kg ha-1 + S @ 20 kg ha-1, T11 - Farmers practice (only chemical fertilizer @ 40 : 20 : 20 kg N : P2O5 : K2O ha-1), T12 - STBFR + vermicompost @ 2.5 t ha-1 were tried in RBD with three replications. The soil of the experimental site was black cotton type having pH- 6.11 , O.C.- 0.72 %, E.C- 0.004 (dS m-1), available N -175.9 kg ha-1 (low), available P-36.7 kg ha-1 (medium) and available K- 283.6 kg ha-1 (high). Geetanjali was the test variety for rice and Azad Pea-1 for pea. Application of STBFR (75 : 30 : 20 kg N : P2O5 : K2O ha-1) + FYM @ 5 t ha-1 + Azospirillum @ 5 kg ha-1 + PSM @ 5 kg ha-1 + Zn @ 5 kg ha-1 + S @ 20 kg ha-1 (T10) to medium duration aromatic rice (var. Geetanjali) produced higher rice grain yield (4065 kg ha-1) and pea seed yield (1044 kg ha-1) from aromatic rice -pea paira cropping system. However, application of STBFR + FYM @ 5 t ha-1 + Zn @ 5 kg ha-1 + S @ 20 kg ha-1 producing grain yield (3944 kg ha-1) and pea seed yield 977 kg ha-1 is another option. Application of STBFR (75 : 30 : 20 kg N : P2O5 : K2O ha-1) + FYM @ 5 t ha-1 + Azospirillum @ 5 kg ha-1 + PSM @ 5 kg ha-1 + Zn @ 5 kg ha-1 + S @ 20 kg ha-1 (T10) recorded maximum gross return (Rs. 1,26,991 ha-1) , net return (Rs. 80,146 ha-1) and B : C ratio of 2.71. The increase in rice equivalent yield (REY) in this treatment was 51.4% higher than the farmer practice i,e., application of chemical fertilizers alone (40 : 20 : 20 kg N : P2O5 : K2O ha-1).

A field experiment was conducted at Char Jangalia under MLT site, Laxmipur, a coastal district of southern Bangladesh, during Rabi season of 2015-16 to evaluate the effect of integrated nutrient management on growth and yield performance of soybean (var. Glycine max L.). Six treatment combinations, viz. T1= Control, T2= Farmers practice (25-15 Kg NP ha-1, T3= 100% recommended dose (30-25-55 Kg NP ha-1, K), T4= 50 % recommended dose + 1.5 t ha-1 vermi compost, T5= 50 % recommended dose + 5 t ha-1compost and T6=50 % recommended dose + 1.2 kg ha-1 bio fertilizer were tested. The experiment was laid out in randomized complete block design with 3 replications. There were significant differences among the different treatment combinations in terms of yield and yield contributing characters. Integrated nutrient management with application of 50% of the recommended doses of urea, TSP, MoP, and biofertilizer (Bradyrhizobium) at the rate of 1.2 kg ha-1 significantly increased most of the parameters, such as the plant height, number of nodule per plant, pods per plant, seeds per pod and seed yield. The highest seed yield (2.93 t ha-1) was recorded from T6 while the lowest seed yield (1.83 t ha-1) was obtained from T1. The highest gross return (Tk.117200 ha-1) and gross margin (Tk. 71840 ha-1) was obtained from T6, whereas the lowest gross return (Tk. 70400 ha-1) and gross margin (Tk.27880 ha-1) was obtained from T1. The overall results indicated that the application of integrated nutrient management of a combination of bio fertilizer with 50% N-P-K (15- 12.5-27.5 Kg ha-1) of the recommended dose produced the maximum nodulation and seed yield of soybean in the southern coastal char land.Bangladesh Agron. A field experiment was conducted during rabi 2007-08 to 2008-09 at Uttar Banga Krishi Viswavidyalaya, Cooch Behar situated at sub-Himalayan plains popularly known as terai region of West Bengal, India to study the productivity of yellow sarson under different nutrient management practices and seed priming methods. The experiment was laid out in a factorial randomized block design with eight nutrient management practices and three seed priming methods. The results showed marked improvement in yield components, productivity and economics of yellow sarson due to integrated nutrient management and seed priming methods. Significantly highest seed yield (1374 kg ha-1) was recorded with combination comprising FYM + Azotobacter + PSB and 75% of the recommended fertilizers. The integrated nutrient management practice also had greater impact in production economics, sustenance in soil fertility and enrichment of soil nutrients. The crop receiving plant nutrients only from chemical sources showed poor productivity leading to less remuneration. Higher seed oil content (41.8% and 42.2%) was obtained with the application of 100% of the recommended dose (60:30:30 kg N:P2O5:K2O kg ha-1) along with sulphur (20 kg ha-1) but the oil yield was not impressive due to poor seed yield. Pre-sowing soaking of seeds with 100 ppm KH2PO4 also showed improvement in yield components, productivity and oil yield of the yellow sarson crop compared to seeds soaked with 100 ppm Na2HPO4 and water. Net returns and return/rupee invested were higher when the yellow sarson seeds were soaked with 100 ppm KH2PO4 over the other soaking methods. A field experiment was conducted to study the residual effect of integrated nutrient management in little millet on production potential of succeeding green gram crop under little millet-green gram cropping system. The residual effect of 50% RDN through chemical fertilizer + 50% RDN through vermicompost to Kharif little millet reported the significant effect on growth, yield attributes, seed and stover yields of succeeding green gram followed by 50% RDN through chemical fertilizer + 50% RDN through biocompost. Application of 50% RDN through chemical fertilizer + 50% RDN through vermicompost recorded maximum plant height at 60 DAS (52.08 cm) and at harvest (75.07 cm), maximum number of branches per plant at harvest (5.00), dry matter accumulation per plant (26.56 g), seed index (3.39 g) seed yield (991 kg/ha) and stover yield (2513 kg/ha). Thus, application of 50% RDN through chemical fertilizer + 50% RDN through vermicompost along with a recommended dose of 40 kg P2O5 reported the promising residual effect on growth, yield and yield attributing characters of succeeding green gram in little millet-green gram cropping sequence.

An experiment was conducted at coastal charlandof OFRD, BARI, Noakhali;MLT site, Amtoli,Bargunaand ARS,Benarpota, Satkhira during Rabi season of 2018-19to evaluate the effect of integrated nutrient management on growth,yield and economic performance of sunflower. Six treatment combinations viz. T1= Soil test based fertilizer dose for HYG, T2 = IPNS with 5 tha-1cowdung, T3= IPNS with 5 tha-1 compost, T4= IPNS with 1.5 t ha- 1vermicompost, T5= Farmers’ practice and T6= Absolute control were tested. The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design with 3 replications and BARI Sunflower-2 was used as test crop.The IPNS treatment combinations are significantly differentfrom rest of the treatments in terms of yield and economic return. Application of treatment IPNS with 1.5 tha-1vermicompost significantly increased all of the parameters such as the plant height, head diameter, number of seed per head,1000 seed weight, seed yield and stover yield. The significantly highest seed yield (2.19, 2.23 and 2.06 t ha-1 at Noakhali, Bargunaand Satkhira, respectively) was recorded in IPNS with 1.5 tha-1vermicompost treated plot (T4) while the lowest seed yield (1.05, 1.10 and 1.02 t ha-1 at Noakhali, Barguna and Satkhira, respectively) was observed in absolute control treatment (T6). Salinity level increased at slower rate in T2, T3 and T4, treatments where IPNS based nutrient management packages were imposed.During the crop growing period soil salinity ranged from 0.62 to 9.72dS m-1, 0.58 to 9.23dS m-1, 0.73 to 9.86dS m-1 at Noakhali, Barguna and Satkhira, respectively from emergence to maturity stages of the crop. The highest net return (50790 Tk. ha-1, 52765 Tk. ha-1 and 43940 Tk. ha-1 at Noakhali, Barguna and Satkhira, respectively) as well as BCR (1.75, 1.78 and 1.67 atNoakhali, Barguna and Satkhira, respectively) were obtained from T4 treatment (IPNS with 1.5 tha-1vermicompost) whereas the lowest net return (14900 Tk. ha-1 ,15175 Tk. ha-1 and 11570 Tk. ha-1 at Noakhali, Barguna and Satkhira, respectively) and BCR (1.40, 1.33 and 1.26at Noakhali, Barguna and Satkhira, respectively) were obtained from control (T6) treatment. The overall results indicated that IPNS with 1.5 tha-1 vermicompostis more effective than other fertilizer management packages in respect of yield as well as economic return for sunflower cultivation in the coastal charland of Bangladesh. A field experiment was conducted at the Pulse Research Sub-station of Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI), Gazipur during rabi season of 2015-16 and 2016-17 to evaluate the effectiveness of organic and inorganic sources of nutrients in terms of growth and yield maximization of lentil. The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design (RCBD) having six treatments with three replications. The treatments were T1= Recommended dose (N20P15K30S10Zn3B1.5 kg ha-1), T2= IPNS (Inorganic) +2.5 t ha-1cowdung, T3= IPNS (Inorganic) +5 t ha-1cowdung, T4= IPNS (Inorganic) +1.5 t ha-1 poultry manure, T5= IPNS (Inorganic)+3 t ha-1 poultry manure and T6= Control. The results reveal that the integrated nutrient management had significant effects on the plant height, number of branches per plant, number of pods per plant, number of seeds per pod, 1000-seed weight, and seed yield of lentil. The maximum seed yield (1216 kg ha-1) as well as protein content (26.1%) were recorded with T4 treatment. The results advocate that satisfying the recommended dose through application of poultry manure @ 1.5 t ha-1 with IPNS inorganic fertlizer could be suggested for achieving yield miximization of lentil in chhiata soil series of Gazipur.
