Effects of seaweed extract on yield and protein content of two common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) cultivars

An experiment was conducted to investigate into the effects of Ecklonia maxima extract (Kelpak SL) on yield, protein and ash contents of two bean cultivars. The study was carried out in 2012 - 2014 in Poland. During the growing season, 0.2% and 0.4% solutions of the bio-stimulant were applied by single and double spraying of plants against a control. The highest number and weight of grains were found when the plants of ‘Toska’ cultivar were single sprayed with 0.2% seaweed extract. Double spraying the plants with the 0.4% solution of Kelpak SL increased the number, its weight and the number of pods in cultivar ‘Aura’. The application of Kelpak SL increased protein content of grains in both bean cultivars. Higher the dose the double foliar application of the bio-stimulant, more was the ash content of the grain of plants of ‘Toska’ cultivar.

An experiment was carried out with common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris, L.) in a Red Yellow Latossol, sandy phase, in order to study the influence of foliar spraying of the Hanway nutrient solution (NPKS) at grain filling stage on: 1) grain yield; 2) the uptake of fertilizer and soil nitrogen by this crop through the root system and 3) the efficiency of utilization of the nitrogen in the foliar spray solution by the grain. The results of this experiment showed that the foliar application of the Hanway solution with ammonium nitrate at the pod filling period caused severe leaf burn and grain yield was inferior to that of the plants which received a soil application of this fertilizer at the same stage. These facts can be attributed to the presence of ammonium nitrate in the concentration used. The composition of final spray was: 114,28 Kg NH4NO3 + 43,11 Kg potassium poliphosphate + 12,44 Kg potassium sulphate per 500 litres. The uptake of nitrogen fertilizer through the root system and the efficiency of its utilization was greater than that through the leaves.

The objective of this work was to evaluate the efficiency of nitrogen fixing inoculum associated with Co + Mo leaf spray on the common bean grain yield and grain nutrients, cv. FT Nobre. Three dosages of the inoculant (0, 200 and 400 g/50 kg seeds), combined with four Co + Mo leaf spray levels (T0=0,0; T1=4.9,49; T2=7.3,73; and T3=9.7,97 g ha-1 of Co and Mo, respectively) were tested. The grain yield with the use of the inoculant (400 g / 5O kg seed-1) associated with the higher level of Co+Mo (T2 and T3) was very similar to the mineral nitrogen condition fertilizer recommended for the bean (70 kg ha-1 of N). With the increased inoculant dosage, an increase of the protein content and of P and Mg in the grain was also observed. The results indicated that the mineral nitrogen source could be replaced by inoculation of the seeds with Rhizobium tropici combined with Co + Mo leaf spray.

The use of tofu dregs flour, red bean flour and chopped soybeans alarms to enrich the fiber and protein nutrition from the snack bar. The purpose of this study was to determine the interaction and effect of the addition of tofu pulp and red bean flour with soybeans on the physicochemical and organoleptic snack bars. The research used factorial randomized block design (RBD), the first factor was the ratio of the addition of tofu pulp flour and red bean flour with treatment T1 (14%; 86%), T2 (29%; 71%), T3 (43%; 57%) and the second factor was the addition of soybeans treated with K1 (10%), K2 (20%), K3 (30%). The results of the treatment of tofu dregs flour and red bean flour showed that the ash content in the T1 treatment (14%; 86%) was 3.20%, the fiber content in the T3 treatment (43%; 57%) was 6.54%, the protein content in T1 treatment (14%; 86%) namely 5.01%, organoleptic aroma test on T1 treatment (14%; 86%) namely 5.47 (delicious) and organoleptic taste test in T1 treatment (14%; 86%) namely 5.13 (delicious). The highest yield of chopped peanut treatment was at K1 (10%), namely 46.56 N.

The increasing scarcity of water demands proper water management practices to ensure crop sustainability. In this study, the effect of drought stress and biostimulants application on the yield and chemical composition of green pods and seeds of common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) was evaluated. For this purpose, four commercially available biostimulant products, namely Nomoren (G), EKOprop (EK), Veramin Ca (V), and Twin-Antistress (TW), were tested under two irrigation regimes: normal irrigation (W+) and water-holding (W-) conditions. The highest increase (20.8%) of pods total yield was observed in EKW+ treatment due to the formation of more pods of bigger size compared to control treatment (CW+). In addition, the highest yield under drought stress conditions was recorded for the GW- treatment (5691 ± 139 kg/ha). Regarding the effects of biostimulants on the protein and ash content of pods, the application of VW+ treatment (first harvest of pods; 201 ± 1 and 79 ± 1 g/kg dw for proteins and ash content, respectively) and GW+ (second harvest of pods; 207.1 ± 0.1 and 68.4 ± 0.5 g/kg dw for proteins and ash content, respectively) showed the best results. For seeds, the application of GW+ treatment resulted in the highest content for fat, protein, and ash content (52.7 ± 0.1, 337 ± 1, 56 ± 1 g/kg dw) and energetic value (5474 ± 3 kcal/kg dw). γ-tocopherol was the main detected tocopherol in pods and seeds, and it was significantly increased by the application of TWW- (first harvest of pods; 6410 ± 40 μg/kg dw), VW- (second harvest of pods; 3500 ± 20 μg/kg dw), and VW+ (seeds; 39.8 ± 0.1 g/kg dw) treatments. EKW- treatment resulted in the lowest oxalic acid content for both pod harvests (26.3 ± 0.1 g/kg dw and 22.7 ± 0.2 g/kg dw for the first and second harvest of pods, respectively) when compared with the rest of the treatments where biostimulants were applied, although in all the cases, the oxalic acid content was considerably low. Fructose and sucrose were the main sugars detected in pods and seeds, respectively, while the highest content was recorded for the TWW- (first harvest of pods) and GW- (second harvest of pods and seeds) treatments. The main detected fatty acids in pods and seeds were α-linolenic, linoleic, and palmitic acid, with a variable effect of the tested treatments being observed. In conclusion, the application of biostimulants could be considered as an eco-friendly and sustainable means to increase the pod yield and the quality of common bean green pods and seeds under normal irrigation conditions. Promising results were also recorded regarding the alleviation of negative effects of drought stress, especially for the application of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF; G treatment), which increased the total yield of green pods. Moreover, the nutritional value and chemical composition of pods and seeds was positively affected by biostimulants application, although a product specific effect was recorded depending on the irrigation regime and harvesting time (pods and seeds).

This study aims to determine whether substitution of wheat flour with red bean flour in the manufacture of wet noodles, resulting in wet noodles that are not only high in carbohydrates but also contain protein and natural antioxidant compounds. Addition of red bean flour with different percentage gives a real effect on water content, ash content, protein content, fat content, akrbohidrat content, and the elasticity of wet noodles. Parameters of nutrients analyzed have mean that is in accordance with SNI about nutrition content in wet noodles. The proportion of red bean flour in wet noodle making preferred by consumers based on favorite test is on P2 and P3 samples with red bean flour added 10% and 20%.

Aiming to verify the effects of the use of sources of amino acids associated to micronutrients on the final yield of common bean, was conducted an experiment at FAZU in Uberaba-MG, using Carioca kind of bean, cultivar Pérola. The design was in randomized blocks with eight treatments and four repetitions. The sowing was done in August 18, 2008, the final stand of 240.000 plants ha-1.  Fertilization was held with 8-28-16 and coverage with urea. The treatments were constituted of T1: witness; T2: seed treatment (B: 0,1%; Cu: 0,1%; Mo: 2,%; Zn: 4,6%); T3: seed treatment + foliar fertilization at 25 DAE (B: 0,3%; Mn: 2,%; Mo: 1%; Zn: 3% + amino acids); T4: seed treatment + foliar application of amino acids at 25 DAE; T5: seed treatment + foliar application of amino aciads in the pre and post-bloom (40 and 50 DAE); T6: foliar fertilization at 25 DAE (B: 0,3%; Mn: 2%; Mo: 1,%; Zn: 3% + amino acids); T7: foliar application of amino acids at 25 DAE; T8: foliar application (B: 0,3%; Mn: 2%; Mo: 1,%; Zn: 3% + amino acids) in the pre and post-bloom (40 and 50 DAE). It was evaluated: final yield, number of pods/plants, number of grains/pods and the mass of 100 grains. The results did not show relevant difference.
