This study was to assess the effects of deltamethrin on some haematological parameters of brown trout (Salmo trutta fario). During the 4 day, 10 brown trout were exposed to two different concentrations of Deltamethrin which they were 20% (0.91 μg·L-1) and 40% (1.88 μg·L-1) respectively, (LC50=4.7 μg·L-1). The results obtained from this study showed that the White Blood Cell (WBC), Hemoglobin content (Hb), Hematocrit percentage (PCV), Mean Corpuscular Volume (MCV) and Mean Corpuscular Hemoglobin (MCH) were decreased in two treated groups when compared to the control (p

The aim of this study was to determine the effects of diazinon on some haematology indices in rainbow trout. During the four day, 10 rainbow trout were exposed to two different concentration of diazinon, 40% (0.66mg/L) and 80% (1.32mg/L), respectively (LC50=1.65mg/L). The values of erythrocytes (RBC), packed cell volume (PCV) and hemoglobin (Hb) were significantly (P less than 0.05) decreased. Whereas, leukocytes (WBC) value increased significantly (P less than 0.05) and then decreased. The values of mean corpuscular volume (MCV) and mean corpuscular hemoglobin (MCH) were significantly (P less than 0.05) increased with diazinon administration. However, the increase in the mean corpuscular hemoglobin content (MCHC) was statistically insignificant (P>0.05). Lymphocyte decreased significantly (P less than 0.05). Neutrophils increased and then decreased significantly (P less than 0.05). In conclusion, the changes blood parameteres of the fish exposed to diazinon may be related to decreased immune system.

Abstract Because we recently observed two patients with severe diabetic hyperglycemia and spuriously elevated electronically determined hematocrit and mean corpuscular volume (MCV), we investigated the effect of hyperglycemia on two popular automated hematology systems, the Coulter S and Ortho ELT-8. Marked hyperglycemia (blood glucose 800-- 2000 mg/dl) caused consistent overestimation of the electronically determined MCV compared to that derived from a simultaneous spun microhematocrit. The resultant overestimation and underestimation, respectively, of the derived values for hematocrit and mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration may be clinically misleading. The mechanism of MCV elevation in hyperglycemia appears to be swelling of hyperosmolar glucose “loaded” erythrocytes when diluted into “isotonic” counting medium. This effect is readily circumvented by determination of a spun microhematocrit.

This paper presents the data related to morphometric and physiological (hematological) characteristics of brown trout (Salmo trutta) from the Ponor River. This river rises near the village Podrašnica (municipality of Mrkonjić Grad), sinks above the ground and after a while, near the settlement of Krupa na Vrbasu, appears as a source of the Krupa River (tributary of the Vrbas River). Fish sampling was performed during the summer of 2015 and during this period 22 Salmo trutta units were caught (11 females and 11 males). On that occasion, several morphometric (total and standard body length) and hematological traits (Hct-hematocrit, Hb-hemoglobin and MCHC - mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration), body mass and Fulton’s condition factor were analyzed. The average value for total body length was 18.85 cm and for standard body length it was 16.85 cm; the mean value for body mass was 80.38 g, and for Fulton’s condition factor 1.41. In case of hematological parameters, the average value for Hct was 0.39 l/l, Hb 70.62 g/l and MCHC 180.64 g/l erythrocytes. The estimated parameters can serve as indicators for the condition of these aquatic organisms, and indirectly, the state of their environment.
