It is essential that the international community should follow up present major undertakings to help Third World countries achieve economic self-sufficiency. How ever, the ordinary man or woman, confronted with the bewildering mass of eco nomic formulations and technicalities employed in the approaches to a new inter- notional economic order, may be forgiven for wondering where the individual comes in. There is a danger that the means (international economic equality) may become more important than the ends (the satisfaction of basic human, i.e. indivi dual, needs and rights). A Third World journalist who was present at the Seventh special Session of the UN General Assembly and a participant in the 1975 Dag Hammarskjold Third World Journalists' Seminar suggests that the success of the joint endeavour will depend on the extent to which the collaborators understand the human problems involved in any exercise of give and take, and here he presents the problem in its most elemental form, in a sort of real-life allegory drawn from an experience in his own country, an essay in awakening the collective conscience of humanity.

Abstract Editors of several journals in the field of hydrology met during the General Assembly of the European Geosciences Union – EGU in Vienna in April 2017. This event was a follow-up of similar meetings held in 2013 and 2015. These meetings enable the group of editors to review the current status of the journals and the publication process, and to share thoughts on future strategies. Journals were represented at the 2017 meeting by their editors, as shown in the list of authors. The main points on invigorating hydrological research through journal publications are communicated in this joint editorial published in the journals listed here.

The fourth emergency special session of the General Assembly, summoned by the Secretary-General in accordance with a resolution adopted by the Security Council at its 906th meeting on September 16, 1960, was held from September 17 through 19, 1960. During consideration of the provisional agenda, Mr. Wadsworth (United States) suggested that the admission of new members, scheduled for the regular fifteenth session of the General Assembly, be added to the agenda of the emergency session as item No. 1. After objections to this addition were voiced by the Soviet Union, several African states, and others, on the ground that the necessary documents were not yet in the hands of the Assembly, a proposal by the representative of Guinea for postponement of the matter was adopted by 43 votes to none, with 26 abstentions.
