Numerical simulation of MHD free convection in a two-dimensional trapezoidal cavity of a hybrid nanofluid has been carried out in this research. The cavity is heated sinusoidal from the bottom wall, and the inclined walls are cooled while the top wall is isolated. The hybrid nanofluid (MgO-Ag/water) has been used as a working fluid. The numerical simulation has been validated with past papers and met a good agreement. The considered parameters are a range of Rayleigh number (Ra= 103 to 106), Hartmann number (Ha= 0 to 60) and volume fraction (f= 0 to 0.02). The results are presented as isotherms, stream functions, local and average Nusselt numbers, from which it is observed that the strength of the stream functions and isotherms increases with the increase of the Ra and ϕ while the increase in Hartmann number reduce the circulation of the flow and increases the isotherms strength. Also, the Nusselt number is increases with Ra and ϕ while it decreases with Ha.

A numerical study on convective heat transfer of hybrid nanofluid packed in a right angled triangular cavity heated by a sinusoidal temperature maintained from lower side and subjected to a constant magnetic field have been studied in this work. The hypotenuse side of the triangular cavity has been kept in uniform cool temperature while the remaining side is insulated. The governing equations of the problem have been discretized numerically with help of finite element method. A fixed Prandtl number Pr=6.2 has been used for the numerical solution. Several values of Rayleigh number Ra=102-106 , and Hartmann number Ha=0-100 which are the non-dimensional governing parameters have been examined. The volume fraction  =0.01, 0.05, 0.1 and the heat generation parameter Q = 1 have been taken for this work. Calculate and the graph of Nusselt number corresponding to different parameters have been presented. The results show that Nusselt number has been decreasing function of nanoparticles Rayleigh number and also it is a decreasing function of Hartmann number. Obtained results has been compared with previously obtained data by other authors.

Impact of nanofluid natural convection due to magnetic field in existence of melting heat transfer is simulated using CVFEM in this research. KKL model is taken into account to obtain properties of CuO–H2O nanofluid. Roles of melting parameter (δ), CuO–H2O volume fraction (ϕ), Hartmann number (Ha), and Rayleigh (Ra) number are depicted in outputs. Results depict that temperature gradient improves with rise of Rayleigh number and melting parameter. Nusselt number detracts with rise of Ha. At the end, a comparison as a limiting case of the considered problem with the existing studies is made and found in good agreement.

In the present numerical study, we consider a low-Prandtl liquid metal heated by Joule effect in a rectangular cavity with an aspect ratio of 2. The direct current provides heat to the process medium by a pair of plate electrodes, located at the cavity sidewalls. The simulations have been carried out using finite volume method for fixed values of the Prandtl number, Pr=0.01, and of the Rayleigh number, Ra=1.5×104, while the Hartmann number, Ha=1410, Comparison between the original noise-free data and cleaned data is explored. More precisely, accurate performances predicted using removing noise from numerical simulation data is obtained to define the inherently complicated nature of the competition of buoyancy with electromagnetic body forces.

Abrupt closing valve in piping systems is sometimes resulted in cavitation due to the occurrence of high pressure difference. The bubbles generating by cavitation influence operating pressure and then those generate shock wave and vibration. These phenomena can consequentially cause to corrosion and erosion. So, the cavitation is the important factor to consider reliability of piping systems and mechanical lifetime. This paper investigated the various inhibition methods of cavitation in piping systems in which butterfly valves are installed. To prevent cavitation occurrence, it is desirable to analyze its characteristics between the upstream and downstream of process valve. Results show that the fluid velocity is fast when a working fluid passed through butterfly valve. The pressure of these areas was not only under saturation vapor pressure of water, but also cavitation was continuously occurred. We confirmed that the effect of existence of inserted orifice and influence to break condition under saturation vapor pressure of water. Results were graphically depicted by pressure distribution, velocity distribution, and vapor volume fraction.

This article presents a numerical study of two-dimensional laminar mixed convection in a horizontal channel. The upper horizontal wall of the channel is insulated. The governing equations were solved by using the finite volume method based on the simpler algorithm. Comparisons with previous results were performed and found to be in excellent agreement. The results were presented in terms of streamlines, isotherms, local and average Nusselt numbers for the Richardson number (0 ≤ Ri ≤ 10), Reynolds number (5 ≤ Re ≤ 100), solid volume fraction of nanoparticles (0 ≤ ϕ ≤ 0.10), and the type of nanofluids (Cu, Ag, Al2O3, and TiO2). The results show that the previous parameters have considerable effects on the flow and thermal fields. It was found that the heat transfer increases with increasing of Ra, Re, and ϕ.

A numerical study of laminar forced convection heat transfer for the fully developed region inside a circular pipe filled with Si based nanoparticle is presented for investigating the parameters of heat transfer. Four Si based nanoparticles Si, SiC, SiO2, Si3N4 with 1-5% volume fraction have been mixed with water to prepare nanofluids which is used for working fluid to flow over a circular pipe with 5mm diameter and 700mm length. Heat transfer characteristics and pumping power have been calculated at fully developed region with constant heat flux condition on pipe wall to identify the heat transfer enhancement ratio and pumping power reduction ratio among base fluid water and each nanofluids. It is worth mentioning that utilizing SiC nanoparticle shows not only the highest increment of Nusselt number and convective heat transfer coefficient but also the highest decrement of pumping power requirement and FOM in comparison to the base fluid.

In this work, a numerical study of mixed convection inside a horizontal channel with an open trapezoidal enclosure subjected to a discrete heat source in different locations is carried out. The heat source with the length of ε = 0.75, is maintained at a constant temperature. The air flow with a fixed velocity and a cold temperature enters the channel horizontally. The other walls of the enclosure and the channel are adiabatic. The results are presented in the form of the contours of velocity, isotherms and Nusselt numbers profiles for various heat source locations, Prandtl number (Pr = 0.71) and Reynolds number (Re = 100) respectively. The distribution of the isotherms depends significantly on the position of the heat source. We noted that the best heat transfer is detected where the heat source is placed in the top of the left .

These days, much effort is being put into lowering the consumption of electric energy and involving renewable energy sources. Many engineers and designers are trying to develop environment-friendly technologies worldwide. It is related to incorporating appropriate devices into such technologies. The object of this paper is to investigate these devices in connection with refrigeration systems. Ejectors can be considered such as these devices. The primary interest of this paper is to investigate the suitability of a numerical model for an ejector, which is incorporated into a refrigeration system. In the present paper, there have been investigated seven different test runs of working of the ejector with a working fluid R-1234ze(E). Some of the investigated cases seem to have a good agreement and there are no significant discrepancies between them, however, there are also cases that do not correspond to the experimental data at all. The ejector has been investigated in both on-design and off-design working modes. A comparison between the experimental and numerical data (CFD) performed by Ansys Fluent software is presented and discussed for both an ideal and a real gas model. In addition, an enhanced analytical model has been introduced for all runs of the ejector.

This paper performs a numerical analysis of the natural convection within two-dimensional enclosures (square enclosure and enclosures with curved walls) full of a H2O-Cu nanofluid. While their vertical walls are isothermal with a cold temperature [Formula: see text], the horizontal top wall is adiabatic and the bottom wall is kept at a sinusoidal hot temperature. The working fluid is assumed to be Newtonian and incompressible. Three values of the Rayleigh number were considered, viz., 103, 104, 105, the Prandtl number is fixed at 6.2, and the volume fraction [Formula: see text] is taken equal to 0% (pure water), 10% and 20%. The numerical simulation is achieved using a 2D-in-house CFD code based on the governing equations formulated in bipolar coordinates and translated algebraically via the finite volume method. Numerical results are presented in terms of streamlines, isotherms and local and average Nusselt numbers. These show that the heat transfer rate increases with both the volume fraction and the Rayleigh number, and that the average number of Nusselt characterizing the heat transfer raises with the nanoparticles volume fraction.

Delamination is one of the most common defects caused by drilling, which can have negative effect on the joint performance. This study investigates the effect of delamination on the bearing strength of [0/90]2s, [15/−75]2s, [30/−60]2s and [45/−45]2s GFRP layers numerically. Cohesive zone method and virtual crack closure technique have been used for delamination modeling and the results of these two methods have been compared. FEM results show good agreement with available experimental data. Results demonstrated that delamination reduces the bearing strength. Among four different stacking sequences, delamination has the most effect on the laminate with the stacking sequence of [0/90]2s. In both delaminated and non-delaminated models, [0/90]2s and [45/−45]2s stacking sequences have the most and the least bearing strength, respectively. By increasing the radius of delaminated zone from 3 mm to 15 mm, bearing strength does not change a lot. As the delaminated zone reaches the edge of the specimen, bearing strength reduces strongly because the layers separate completely and the load-carrying capacity reduces. A parametric study was also conducted to examine the effects of different factors. The results of parametric study showed that by increasing the volume fraction of the fiber as well as the use of carbon fiber instead of glass fiber, the bearing strength increases.
