This study explores how TV commercials in Pakistan construct female identity in the present era. Advertising becomes an essential part in moulding and shaping our behaviour, attitude, values towards lifestyle and advertisers use visual, semiotic and printed text aims to convey their specific messages. This work attempts to analyze how the belief system of "flawless" and "perfect" society is created and constructed in and through advertisements. This study employed semiotic analysis as a research method to examine Pakistani TVCs. With stratified sampling technique, ten TVCs selected that appeared during intervals breaks of famous TV serials ,obtained from main three private Pakistani channels, on a week after week premise for a time of six months. TVCs were analyzed with reference to the representation of Pakistani women in selected time period. As sign frameworks are included in the construction of meaning and advertising utilizes these signs to transmit its message. The ideologically developed messages, TVCs not only depict the image of women but have additionally made that image into the affirmed part of the female identity in the society. The overall findings reveal that women identity thrive in TV commercials that repeatedly represent women as glamorized sex object, there by not reflecting the different and progressive roles of women. This study is an effort to examine the advertising practice in Pakistan that how it constructs and depicts Pakistani women. Most commercials reveal today’s Pakistani women as an independent glamorous and liberal object. This study would be significant for communication experts as well as for the policy makers who can apply it as a basis for creating and executing advertisements in future.

A very important parts of TV commercials are the messages and how they convinced people. In addition, the information given in commercials may contain messages that seem like a fact however, they may not be true. To understand these commercials it is more beneficial to observe how they say instead of what they say. In many studies (Ferreira, et al. 2006; Muratović, et al., 2014; Pyun, et al., 2012) it is stated that consumers positive attitudes are developed to products which are in the commercial that use sports image. In this context, the purpose of this study is to criticize the TV commercials that’s use sports image by using semiotics-analyzing method. Clear Men, Türkiye Finans (Turkish Finance Bank ) and TEB economy commercials that are broadcasted on television channels in Turkey were chosen by using purposive sampling. Selected commercials are analyzed by semiotics-analyzing method. The result of this study indicated that these companies are using sports image effectively in TV commercials with various advertising strategies to achieve their marketing objectives. Using sports image in TV commercials does not only contribute the companies but also contribute sports image and popularity of the athletes. This relationship between sports and commercials has a crucial effect on development of each other. In light of this information, it can be state that researches on sports related commercials are so useful for sports managers and advertisers.

ABSTRACT ‘Tanda Tanya (?)’ movie has become an Indonesian cinematic work with some controversies complement with it. The controversies lie on how the movie constructed their messages related to the description of Islamic image. The Islamic image which is depicted in this movie contains several sym- bols which created a demonization on the construction of Islam and Moslem. The narrative theory that has been employed focuses on greimas actantial analysis models which emphasizes on how the narrative creates a story and how the story becomes a narrative discourse. The semiotic analysis used on this research is in term of constructivist perspective which aims at constructing the phenomena as a whole answer. The result of the research is that demonization of Islam has been constructed through the narrative sequences of ‘Tanda Tanya’. The movie depicted Islam in an image of traditional, un- civilized, terrorism, destructive, and aggressive community. This created a meaning of Islam as a negative and demonic community, religion, and value. Keywords: demonization, Islam, narrative  ABSTRAK Film ‘Tanda Tanya (?)’ merupakan sebuah karya cinema Indonesia yang mengundang banyak kontroversi. Abstract: The present article sought to offer a semiotic analysis of Pinter’s The Caretaker’s characters as signifers in their own right. The article also aimed at studying the play’s dramatis personae as loci of multi-coded expressions, with a focus on the various modes of signifcation associated with them. Using semiotics as an analytical method, the author explored the linguistic and paralinguistic features of the characters’ discourses as signs in relation to the play’s pivotal themes, their kinesic and body expressions as indexical signs, as well as their distinctive proxemic behavior(s) onstage. Some attention was also given to the characters’ handling of stage props and the special meanings attached to them as replicators of character personality. The results of the discussion showed that using a semiotic approach to analyze The Caretaker’s characters can yield positive outcomes in terms of comprehensive analysis and interpretation of the characters as dynamic unities of interrelated sign-systems.
