The textbook is a compilation based on the authentic texts adapted from websites and magazines (USA, UK, Canada) and is intended for civil engineering students. One of the aims of this project has been to develop materials both for testing the foreign language competence of civil engineers and for teaching them the language that they need to require for their professional certification. I do not assume that my users will have an in-depth knowledge of civil engineering works. Therefore, the units have been devised to help students improve their knowledge and use of English in an engineering environment. Each unit covers vocabulary related to a certain topic area- ranging from basic civil engineering vocabulary to roads, architecture, bridges, types of foundations and so on- and is designed to reinforce and improve their communicative skills.

The article determines the necessity of using augmented reality technologies in the formation of professional foreign language competence of chemistry students of non-linguistic universities with the use of the methods of modeling of educational material, complementing it with visual and audio sequences, and developing students’ skills of multifaceted projecting of situational reality. The goal of the study was to prove that, within the innovative educational augmented reality platform, the efficiency of the process of forming of the students’ professional foreign language competence significantly increases. As part of the experimental work based on complex methods of research, such as: general theoretical methods (analysis, comparison, matching, generalization of the pedagogical, methodological, psychological, special literature, the implementation of the introduction of new augmented reality technologies); logical and comparative analytical methods (study of the accumulated the Russian and foreign experience in implementing of augmented reality technologies); empirical methods (survey, pedagogical experiment, observation, study and generalization of the advanced pedagogical experience, diagnostics, surveys, interviews, testing), – the effectiveness of using augmented reality technology during the formation of chemistry students’ professional foreign language competence is proved: students’ progress and understanding of the material improves, professional foreign language competence forms faster, the level of motivation increases, the degree of involvement in the learning process and interest in the subject increases, the level of communication between students grows.

The development of students’ progress point-rating assessment at the university is discussed. The analysis of psychological and pedagogical literature of domestic and foreign authors on this issue was carried out. The practical aspects of using point-rating assessment system are discussed. In particular, the problem which consists in finding ways to improve methods of developing rating system is highlighted. The researchers worked out rating scheme for assessing students’ activities in the discipline «Professionally focused translation». The learning outcomes in the conditions of experimental work are analyzed. The attitude of students to the recommended assessment scheme is shown.

Abstract Over the past few decades the interest in communication apprehension has increased among researchers and teachers in the field of second/foreign language acquisition (SLA/FLA).The present paper is set between the macro perspective of the social-psychological period - by giving a general view of communication apprehension (CA) - and the situation-specific period - by taking into consideration the immediate educational context. The paper focuses on the phenomenon of communication apprehension among the Croatian university level students in a foreign language classroom setting. In particular, it investigates if there is a difference in the total level of communication apprehension between undergraduate and graduate students of English Language and Literature.Furthermore, it explores whether there is a relationship between different aspects of communication apprehension and the total level of communication apprehension and which background factor is the best predictor of communication apprehension among the students. The first part of the paper brings a theoretical background of the main concepts in this research, whereas the second part of the paper reports on the research itself. Two sets of instruments, questionnaires completed by the students and in-depth interviews conducted among the teachers, were used for the purpose of this study. The results show that the year of study is not a significant predictor of the communication apprehension level which students experience.Among all variables included in the analysis, the only significant predictors of communication apprehension are evaluations.
