In any remote surveillance scenario, smart cameras have to take intelligent decisions to generate summary frames to minimize communication and processing overhead. Video summary generation, in the context of smart camera, is the process of merging the information from multiple frames. A summary generation scheme based on clustering based change detection algorithm has been implemented in our smart camera system for generating frames to deliver requisite information. In this paper we propose an embedded platform based framework for implementing summary generation scheme using HW-SW Co-Design based methodology. The complete system is implemented on Xilinx XUP Virtex-II Pro FPGA board. The overall algorithm is running on PowerPC405 and some of the blocks which are computationally intensive and more frequently called are implemented in hardware using VHDL. The system is designed using Xilinx Embedded Design Kit (EDK).

Abstract The pipe routing problem, wherein layout of one or more pipes has to be decided in a 3-dimensional space while satisfying several different types of constraints, has attracted significant attention recently. This paper describes a knowledge-based automated pipe routing system which generates practical routes that meet several diverse criteria. The system employs intelligent search (with embedded design constraints) upon a compact representation of the free space in a facility, thus avoiding expensive interference checks and adjustments that must be performed in some of the other systems.

This chapter introduces the various design choices researchers need to decide on prior to conducting the study. The chapter starts with a detailed description of what research design is, followed by an explanation of descriptive, explanatory, or exploratory research questions. This determines what type of data will be collected. The major strategic implementation methods for quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods are then discussed. The three strategies for mixed methods research—parallel convergent, sequential, and embedded design—are presented in detail along with the rationale for their use. Finally, in the last section, the strands or sequencing of the data collection phase of the study are explained.

In order to solve the heavy equipment and hard to build fast networking problems in mine emergency rescue communication network, a portable network terminal equipment is designed in this paper. It uses WinCE system and TCP/IP network protocols, including WinCE transplantation, network transmission and WinCE embedded application development. A mutually for the client server network communication is realized, and the real-time transmission of underground video, audio, environmental parameters acquisition information is achieved. Finally the embedded terminal and the PC host combined joint debugging is conducted. Test data indicate that audio network transmission is efficient, and the software code is with good encapsulation and portability.
