Great significance shall be attached to the research on how to improve reliability of user-end power supply with limited expense by coordinating reliability and economic efficiency of power grid, so that to meet the increasing demand on reliability of electric power, and achieve considerable economic effectiveness. In this paper, process of power distribution network reliability calculation based on minimum-path failure mode and effect analysis mode is expounded, and a demonstration on calculation of power distribution network reliability is provided. Furthermore, cost-benefit analysis, which includes calculations of cost and benefit of reliability, is introduced to reflect reliability efficiency through power interruption cost calculation. At the end of this paper the cost-benefit Analyses is applied on the optimal reconstructed power distribution network.

Dynamic Voltage Restorer (DVR) is a series connected power electronics based custom power device that is used to improve voltage disturbances in low voltage electrical power distribution network. Power quality requirement is one of the most important concerns for power system. The parts of the DVR is made up of voltage source inverter, injection/booster transformer, a harmonic filter, an energy storage device and a bypass switch. The DVR is used to inject three phase voltage in series and in synchronism with the network voltages in order to compensate voltage disturbances with a benefit of active /reactive power control. This paper presents a review of the researches on the dynamic voltage restorer application for power quality improvement in low voltage electrical power distribution networks. It describes power quality issues, principle of operation of DVR, basic components of DVR, DVRs control topologies in distribution network, DVR control strategies and compensation techniques.

Novel Method

This paper presents a novel method of fault diagnosis by the use of fuzzy logic and neural network-based techniques for electric power fault detection, classification, and location in a power distribution network. A real network was used as a case study. The ten different types of line faults including single line-to-ground, line-to-line, double line-to-ground, and three-phase faults were investigated. The designed system has 89% accuracy for fault type identification. It also has 93% accuracy for fault location. The results indicate that the proposed technique is effective in detecting, classifying, and locating low impedance faults.
